In this talk, author and educator Alex Budak challenges conventional notions of what it means to be a leader today, and who gets to call themselves one. He introduces us to a concept he calls Microleadership, which has helped people from all walks of life realize their own leadership potential. He shows how leadership starts not with a title or formal authority, but with small steps that anyone can do, and how tiny acts of leadership can catalyze big impact. Alex Budak is a faculty member at UC Berkeley, co-founder of StartSomeGood, and the author of Becoming a Changemaker. He teaches, speaks and writes to make leadership more attainable, change more positive, and impact more inclusive.
At UC Berkeley, Budak created and teaches his transformational changemaker curriculum to undergraduates, graduates and executives, and directs the Berkeley Haas Global Access Program. A social entrepreneur at heart, he co-founded StartSomeGood, which has helped more than 1,200 changemakers in 50 countries raise millions of dollars to launch and scale new change initiatives. His book, Becoming a Changemaker, has been endorsed by Nobel Prize winners, Olympic athletes, and most meaningfully of all - by his former students who are using these ideas to change the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I was fortunate enough to take Alex's class in UC Berkeley a few years ago and that class inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. His lessons on microleadership and 'leading from where you are' have always stuck with me and I've applied them within my teaching career to great effect. Every successful individual I know has two traits in common: a positive 'can-do' attitude and a bias towards action, and I believe these traits are perfectly encapsulated in Alex's conceptualization of microleadership, which he has articulated brilliantly here. Fantastic talk!

Really loved this TEDx talk! "Microleadership is inclusive" - I really liked this concept. It's really empowering to know that we can all step up and become leaders even if we don't have a title. Thanks Alex for spreading positive impact and inspiring us!

timing = 9:04. I'm not too proud to admit that they definitely weren't classic Swedish literature they were definitely all from the kids section. I can't grasp the connotation of this sentence, would it imply following? Frankly saying, they definitely weren't classic Swedish literature they were definitely all from the kids section, I admit. I'm an intermediate English learner. Would you mind if I ask you a query. Would leadership imply as possible, say tortuously, speak incomprehensibly, when you talk about excessive kindness of the old lady in order to prove your kindness.
