There are so many things we're told matter when we're learning guitar, and watching guitar videos, and playing gigs... but how much of that stuff actually matters? Let me ask you this: What are some of the things you used to care about as a guitarist?
Today, we're getting down to some of the real truths about guitar- This isn't influencer talk or trying to be on trend. This is just the stuff I've come to learn over the last 17 years of playing. We'll talk about some of your most commented on things like: do you actually need an expensive guitar to sound great? Are expensive guitars better? Do you really need a Pedalboard? Do modelers sound as good as pedals and amps? Can a Quad Cortex Replace your Pedalboard? And probably my personal favorite topic: does the gig you're on determine your value?
Remember to leave a like, subscribe to the channel, and share it with a friend and I'll catch you next time. Thank you!!

About a year ago, I made a video where I compared my guitars in a blind shoot out and guess what? A ton of you said the Strat, my cheapest guitar, sounded the best. Go figure- Hope you all are having a great week!

What he’s really advocating is that you need all of it. Pedals, amps, amp modelers, and multifx ;)

When using pedals, good quality instrument cables and power supplies would benefit the player more than an expensive guitar. Nice cases and gig bags are good to have for any instrument.

First time I went from amps/pedals to a modeler, my sound guy...was the happiest he had ever been with guitar sound. Also worth noting, every guitarist should know that how you sound to the audience is based 95% on the skill of your FOH guy. DO NOT make them mad
@JustinMuncy
@JustinMuncy 3 ай бұрын
Haha yes, there’s a lot of FOH guys who will be very happy if you go no stage volume. Especially in smaller venues! For sure- a great band with a bad FOH engineer won’t sound great, but an ok band with a good FOH Engineer can sound pretty solid!

I find Jesus in the sound of a strat neck pickup being pushed to the edge of breakup on a fender amp With reverb at 5…. There’s something about it that reminds me that this life is full of small and great blessings and we just have to be ready to recognize them when we experience them

It very hard for me to be honest with what I like when there’s so much gear review noise. I really like the sound of the fulldrive 2 for 2nd stage, but I feel like SHOULD want the JHS Kilt. It’s a good reminder that the congregation has zero ability to sniff those corks haha. Thanks for the vid today.
@JustinMuncy
@JustinMuncy 3 ай бұрын
Haha I hear you! That’s why you have to take gear reviews with a grain of salt. You know you better than the guy on the screen… probably… hahaha. Anyway, my rule of thumb is if you like what you’re hearing consistently, and it makes you excited to play, then that’s the one! If you can make it sound good, that’s the part that matters! :) Thanks for watching and sharing!

Hey Justin. I’ve been really digging your videos and your vibe. Question - what telecaster are you playing with the neck binding? It looks and sounds excellent! Thanks for quality content!
@JustinMuncy
@JustinMuncy Ай бұрын
Thanks so much Ian! It’s actually kind of a custom guitar I had built. The neck is called a “Channel-Bound Neck” by Fender.

Nice! Looks and sounds killer. On another note, I’d be curious about your thoughts regarding the placement of the HX One in a signal chain? I have a few drive/distortion pedals and a few delay/reverb pedals, but no modulation pedals. I was thinking of getting one and sticking between those two sections on my board. I run straight into the front of my Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. Thoughts?
@JustinMuncy
@JustinMuncy Ай бұрын
@@ianguitarwest Thanks!! I love it! I think that would be a good spot. The mod effects are pretty sweet. Plus you could always use it for a drive sound there if you want something a little different than what you have, or even a funky delay or something too.

I used to be all about made in America stuff. Until I went to a store took photos and actually look at the quality of the product. Here what I found recently: I went to two stores in my country that distributes Fender Jazz bass. I looked at the quality without any bias. Took closeups. Nut work of Professional II JBs were absolute dogsh!t. Nut wasn't cut properly, doesn't even fit the nut slot on the fretboard. The fretboards had a lot of tool markings. Doesn't even have neck binding. Bridge is basic. Finish is sh!t Neck joint have gaps. In all of their stock! I'm not kidding. I was about to buy but I ended up being sad with the quality. It's like a Squier that's 5x the price! I went with ESP bass from Japan. And it is so much better. Not just for the price, it's straight up better. Neck joint is almost one piece, no gaps. Nut is so good it's like a part of neck and fretboard with how well it was cut. Neck binding, block inlays, better bridge, better paint. I can say now that I'm over any branding and I'm just looking objectively better-made products.

Yeah for sure! Sometimes the quality control on import products can be nicer. Every guitar is unique. So much of it is seeing it in person and playing it to see if you connect with it- And just like you experienced, you may be surprised by what you end up liking the most!

@JustinMuncy Your response to "Do Modelers Sound as Good as Amps and Pedals" was a logical fallacy known as a Straw Man.

I appreciate you taking the time to critically think about the content in the video! Like I said at 3:45, “Do they sound the same? No. But it’s pretty darn close.” I don’t really see how that’s a distortion of the question. It’s a direct response. At the end of the day, this like all of my videos are opinion. You don’t have to agree- that’s quite alright. Thanks for sharing yours!

@@JustinMuncy Sorry, I like your videos and watch most of them as time permits. I really liked your video using the little Vox amp, the one playing through the different guitars, and the Les Paul vs SG one. I was already annoyed by having to work with Microsoft Power Flows instead of writing code and shouldn't have commented. On the topic, I think people notice but don't know what they are noticing. I was at a show last night, David Crowder, and had to put in earplugs when he came on due to the harsh, abrasive top end coming from the guitars. The non-Guitar players next to me also noticed but didn't know why. They just thought it was too loud.
