Kinda weird that this video didn't spell it out directly, but in Japanese culture public displays of affection is frowned upon , especially kissing, which is almost never done. Also, the _kokuhaku_ (confession of romantic feelings) is an important concept in Japanese dating culture. In my experience, physical intimacy usually comes after the _kokuhaku_ so that both parties know explicitly that they are dating. Avoiding uncertainty and awkward misunderstandings is highly valued in Japanese culture.

Alright. I'm a 29 year-old non-white Canadian, married to a Japanese woman the same age. Been living in Japan(Tokyo) since 2015 and speak intermediate level Japanese(enough to communicate and describe my opinions and do interviews.) I have "dated" a few Japanese girls including one-night stands(one night love as its called here) and notice the word in quotation marks. Dating is taken loosely here in Tokyo. I can give a few points. They are great and not so great sometimes. 1. You HAVE to differentiate between a westernized/English-loving Japanese girl and a traditional one who is more into her own Japanese sub-culture. Don't think even for a second being a foreigner is somehow going to get you a Japanese girl as it will in the other Asian countries like Phillipians, Thailand, and China. Japan is a different beast. 2. If you think the Japanese girls in this video are cute, you ain't seen shit yet. The hottest Japanese girls usually speak little to no English and date exclusively Japanese men. This goes for the majority of S.Korea as well. 3. The man to deciding is CRITICAL. DO NOT approach dating a Japanese girl with a western approach for the actual date itself as in going out to eat and not deciding things beforehand. Japanese girls HATE deciding what to do and where to go and they hate men who can't decide EVEN more. She will ghost you after that date. Have that shit timed to the half-hour increments. Be a man, and decide shit for her. Even food choices sometimes. Suggest things to her and take the lead whenever you can. Make the date easy for her to enjoy. 4. Approach conversation differently. Most Japanese girls will not tell you how they feel and why should they? I find it quite awkward being asked how they feel about the experience in a "yes or no" type fashion. The conversation is more of a collaboration rather than "discussion, back and forth debate" or information-sharing conversation. Learn the differences. And watch your body language. It says a lot. 5. Don't converse with them logically, rather, share your experiences and take on things and she will join in on whatever they find interesting to talk about. They are quite intelligent but don't expect a lot of knowledge-based conversation as they will find it dull. Reminds them of an authority figure who they do not like. no one likes a "know-it-all". I can answer questions based on mine and other guy's experiences.

From what I have seen Japanese can be a lot more formal. There is lots of implied stuff in the west but confessions seem to be a thing in Japan (expressing in words that you like them and want to date them), despite all the reading of atmosphere that you have to do

Dating a woman from Eastern Civilization (if you are a Western man) is very hard. Success is built on mistakes and misunderstanding over time. There has to be a very strong desire to the understand the other person and much patience. It is not a good idea to even start this kind of relationship if you want someone like you.

You should never, ever, ever be "spontaneous" for dates. Always tell them where, ya'll are going, when you'll meet, and exactly what you're going to do. If you want her opinion, that's fine, just ask her and plan in advance. Otherwise we'll just panic.

I watchted another KZfaqr before who is half german and half japanese. He also said that in Japan you had to make a "realtionship-proposal" to the girl. I think the japanese expression was something like "köku hakü". Basically you have to ask after a couple of dates "Do you want to be my girlfriend". Does this apply to Japan ?
