Lithuanian women sound cool as hell. Educated, honest, watches basketball, hates winter and tries to make it go away, and makes meals from just potatoes. If only I could tell them apart from Latvians.

As a Latvian, I feel kind of offended!! 😅 Of course, you can tell us apart!! At least, this would every Latvian and Lithuanian say! 😉 But we get often confused with Lithuanians and have the same reaction: "Duh!" 🙄 Otherwise, many of the stereotypes shown here would also characterize Latvians. We are also proud of our basketball players, but more about the ice hockey players, though, we can cook wonders out of almost nothing, mushrooms and berries are a big deal etc.

It's amazing how so many of old Lithuanian traditions are similar to Indian traditions. Even the language - I did some search online and found out that Lithuanian and Sanskrit are like distant cousins and share an eerily high number of words and grammatical structures.

Adding to that whats interesting is that the Baltic languages are believed to be the oldest Indo-European languages on the continent. The ancient Balts were probably the first Indo-Europeans people migrating out of the Indus region to settle in Europe. With Sanskrit being the or one of the oldest languages of this family it is possible that Proto Balto-Slavic is the first part of the European branch from this line

@@Madslav398 correct, accept for the fact that the indo-europeans probably did not originate in the indus region as you put it, but rather the plains of Eastern Europe probably around modern-day Ukraine and the area north of the Caucasus mountains, see the Kurgan Hypothesis. It does seem that Lithuania and the baltic region was the deepest backwater of Europe for a very long time though, arguably even to the present day, and remained isolated linguistically and culturally due to a lack of further settlement and contact with other ethnic groups due to dense forests and swampland that was not attractive to outsiders, thus preserving the language and culture which tends to evolve much more quickly in times of cross-cultural interaction

Not only that, but both languages are also related to lots of other languages, including Spanish, Russian, Persian, Albanian, Greek, and even English (plus lots of others). It's a big family of languages.

You a wrong. To russian language or other Slavic languages we relate only in many "bad words" and that just because we were part of soviet union. No any other relation as I know both Lithuanian an russian fluently. There are no any familarities. There are many enough familatities to Ukrainian, but also mainly in logical meaning. For example Lapkritis-November (in Lithuanian 2 word connection: leaf falling), Ukrainian would be Listopad (also leaves and fall)...@@peter-andrepliassov4489

This is probably the most ideal kind of woman I've seen on this channel so far. Progressive, cultured, laid-back in that European way without the drinking problem (or needing alcohol to even have a personality) and warm and romantic like Latinas/Asians without the toxic jealousy and regressive stereotypes. Tells you the truth when you need to hear it, but knows how to be kind when you need it too. In short: Go Lithuania!

It's official, I'm Lithuanian at heart ♥ Love potatoes, love garlic and I'm obsessed with mushroom picking! Greetings from Poland! Ps. We also have some tradition for chasing winter away. We burn winter's effigy and throw it in the river. So Lithuanian traditions shown in the clip seem to be more peaceful.

Many Lithuanian refugees fled to Chicago! My great grandparents met there as teens, both having fled with their parents only months apart. They married and moved north to Michigan but continued to travel back and forth to Chicago for business and family.

If their last name ends in "auskas", they are Lithuanian. If their first and last names sound German but with S at the end, they are Latvian.

I loved seeing this as a half-Lithuanian! My grandparents fled from the Soviets in Lithuania and had my mom in England. They helped raise me and passed many of their traditions onward. They were the kindest people I’ve ever known, and also very wise and intelligent. I can see many traits of my own mother here, and of myself. I believe honesty is a virtue, being nature makes me feel like my truest self, I am more introverted and I don’t enjoy loud bars or parties - and I also cannot stand the cold lol! I love being part Lithuanian 🇱🇹 💛💚❤️ thank you for this video!

1:02 that’s true. It is quite easy to mix up Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. To distinguish Lithuania from the other two countries, just think Lithuania is the only Catholic country of the trio and it was an empire (Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth)

Finally a Lithuanian episode! I have been wishing for one for years! (And I am not even Lithuanian, I am Greek with a bunch of Lithuanian friends). Lithuania is one of my favorite countries in Europe. They preserved their pagan culture and traditions which the rest of Europe abandoned for Christianity. They've had a glorious history as part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, as well as difficult histories such as the Nazi and Soviet occupations, but despite that, have braved through. Their language is also said to be the closest to Proto-Indo-European, which is the origin of ALL Indo-European languages!!!! I also respect them for having the balls to go against China in regards to Taiwan. Such strong, educated, and inspiring people, from a beautiful country. Love from Korea!

So whats the difference between Latvian and Lithuanian women?

I went to Lithuania twice. BOTH times my muscles in my ribs ACHED from laughing so hard. Most hilarious people I ever met. It was sobering though, because when I asked about this they said, we lost two million of our three million population in the years of Soviet occupation. You either laugh or cry. We laugh. They also impressed me greatly as they were ready to do business immediately after the lifting of the occupation explaining that grandmothers and great grandmothers taught their families how to conduct business passing it down through the generations. This while the Russians were still standing in line, for the few items in nearly empty stores behaving nasty to the customers. VIVA Lituva!
