hi milo - another insightful video - i find that with modern equipment especially the stronger clubs - ie. P790 you have no choice but to use a stronger/even super strong lead hand grip because of the offset - thoughts?

Mike Malaska said the same. For amateurs you can’t grip it strong enough. As long as you turn through the shot it works great. Helps me out.

I wonder if people shy away from a stronger grip because releasing the club face tends to result in hooks? Really interesting vid👍

I tend to coach more golfers that hook and pull shots because of a weak lead hand.

You have amazing rotation in your swing Milo. But I have seen things that suggest pros with less rotation (or less open at impact) have a weaker grip as a match up to this. (Jordan speith was used as an example) What are your thoughts on this? Thanks very much
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
Spieth is also pretty open at impact, but recently had a left wrist injury. It's not my ideal matchup, but obviously there are those that make it work with a weaker lead hand grip.

I enjoy when Milo points out that their teachings are their preference. Much better than hearing this is the only way to swing a club. This pattern works, imo the strong grip is the starting point, without that the body just won’t move like it should.

great stuff. with strong grip, do we still need to have a flat left wrist at the backswing?
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
No, in fact you can have some extension or cup in the lead wrist at the top.

Milo - if your lead wrist is pointing 45 degrees to the right of target approaching impact , what would happing to the clubface if you allow your wrist to also extend before and through impact ? Would it increase the dynamic loft of the clubface and also tend to shift the club shaft and clubface a little upwards, which means a normal vector on the clubface would also shift leftwards? So if you had an inside to out club path approaching impact , wouldn't any extension of your lead wrist tend to cause a draw?

Does having a stronger grip really help with pull hooks/duck hooks? Between Milo and Mike M. they coach that stronger grips help with flipping, but when I try it out it still doesn’t work. I like to hit draws and being a lefty, I need to learn how to because most courses favor the right handed fade person. Maybe there’s something I’m missing with this strong grip concept, but reaching out to get a second opinion because I’m a neutral grip with a severe case of the hooks.

Whatever the lead hand grip, the motion should be similar in the downswing in terms of flexion extension. It goes towards less extension or more flexion in the first part of the downswing then goes back towards extension or less flexion just before impact.

Jeez. But I hook my irons bad w overly inside out swing path. Won’t a stronger left hand grip make that worse?

Your grip promotes a lower ball flight, what if you need a high ball flight with distance so using a more lofted club isn’t feasible?
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
This is not true at all, in fact, I would argue a stronger grip can help create a higher ball flight. Many matchups that go into it and depends on the player and their needs. You can still hit the ball plenty high with some amount of shaft lean and a strong grip. My 6 iron for example goes just as high if not higher than any tour pro if I want it to.
@coreyhickman3095

I use the exact same grip as Morikawa and much prefer it to strong. I find strong grip makes it much harder to keep the club in front of my chest on the backswing. I always suck it inside with a strong grip.
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
Like we said it’s a preference of ours not a necessity as many great players have different matchups. Are you a really solid player?

@@MiloLinesGolf nah about a 12 handicap. I’ve tried switching to a strong grip countless times from various instructors and it just never works out for me. I like the feeling I’d turning the face down and holding it. But I agree it definitely costs you some power.
@briancianchetti3282

Can’t agree more. I don’t like the feeling of bowing the wrist into impact. I recently went to an instructor who wanted to change me to a neutral grip but then wanted to bow my wrists. Told him I purposely have a strong grip to avoid having to bow. Needless to say that was my last lesson with him.

The movement being shown at 1:15 is really similar to throwing a frisbee. For me as a lefty playing righty this is a really important feel for me. Was this missed or would you actually disagree that what the lead side is doing is akin to throwing a frisbee? 🥏

I tried to switch to the weak grip. I hit to deep in a fairway near a tree, caught the root, broke the Cartilage in my wrist, ripped 2 tendons off the bone and a year later it still is not right. Likely will require surgery to remove the split Cartilage. I highly recommend not switching!! Wasnt even a hard impact, with a bowed wrist you have no real strength to protect from injury.

I am in Canada , not sure where your team are located. Issue here is the surgeon says leave it alone and live with it, I can move it now but cannot hold weight over 20lbs , if I golf I am sore in the lunar joint. I guess I have to live with it or try to see a new specialist. I fear hurting it again because that pain was extreme and for months if I turned my hand it snapped and the sharp pain was intense only for a few seconds but holy it was bad and I am far from timid! @@MiloLinesGolf

A bowed wrist at the top makes you look super unathletic in my opinion. You can clearly get more power going from cupped to straight. These wrist bowers were definitely the uncoordinated kids growing up
