I'm a life-long Leafs fan, but I have to say, directly after the game, I logged in to the Hurricanes merchandise site and bought a David Ayres shirt. This is going on display as a reminder of the lowest point I can remember for regular season plays. Ugh! P.S. I was amazed that the Ayres shirt was on sale literally minutes aftet the game ended. I have to give it to Carolina, they are on the ball with merchandising. Ayres receives royalties for the shirt since he didn't get paid for the game, and a portion of the proceeds also goes to a kidney foundation.

And just when we thought Toronto was running out of Meme material they had to go and do something like this...AND TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES!!

What Ayres and the Canes pulled off is the most incredible thing I've seen from this team since Game 7 2009 against NJD. And I thought the Michigan goals would be our biggest story of the season

It's even funnier when you put the Leafs side by side against MLSE's other big team... the Raptors. Two teams that couldn't be further apart from each other right now. One has a chip on their shoulder (despite having literally won a chip the previous season), works hard every night, overcomes injury after injury with incredible depth despite having 0 draft lottery players in their lineup, plays for each other, is the model of consistency game in and game out, barely gets any coverage in either their own market or the NBA as a whole, has zero questions about management, coaching, leadership... anything really. Then the Leafs are just the opposite of all those things.

The loafs fans in the chat of the streaming site i was watching literally were talking so much shit when Ayres went in, and they fell DEAD silent once the canes got back their 3 goal cushion. They literally all disappeared. It was amazing. Also, sens fans finally got weapons against those losers: Loafs fan: Hey we beat you in 3 straight playoffs in the early 2000s. Sens Fan: At least we didnt lose to a minor league Zamboni driver.

A team like this doesn’t deserve to be considered at the same level as teams the likes Boston, Washington, Montreal, New York Rangers or even Detroit. I'm truly ashamed that I'm a fan of this team. They have done nothing for me in all of my years of watching them. They're honestly just a laughing stock and it's embarrassing.

Yes the practice goalie/ Zamboni driver was in net, but the goalie was inconsequential. If Carolina played with six skaters and no goalie the leafs still would have lost that game. They lost to the Carolina Hurricanes, who played their asses off. The leafs did not, but of course the goalie situation gets all the headlines.
