Equip a hammer instead of unequipping weapon/shield if you are running for your life. Doing that will remove the slowdown transition to unequip.

I tend to die to the deadliest enemy in Valheim.... trees.

My thoughts: 1. Tower Shield - Great for Tanking w/ Friends, Less to no Knockback, Less Stamina and Staggering per block, Best Choice if you wanna level Blocking. Just go to a Burial Chamber, find skeletons and tank till you drop or you can make one. just make a large hole, find some skeleton archers and pull them with a harpoon. build workbenches so that they don't de-spawn and to prevent other enemies from spawning, build a lookout area where they can shoot at you and finally, shoot then duck when your stamina is low. maybe around 20 archer skeletons should be enough. 2. Round Shield - Mainly used for Parrying with extra Thickness from a buckler. Best for beginners who like to try parrying. does 1.5x more damage when successfully parrying an enemy. Best for PVP. 3. Bucker - Mainly used to take advantage of 2.5x parry bonus. If you leveled up your blocking enough, this should be your best choice as parrying can help you 1 shot enemies. Best for DPS and PVE. Note: Boss Enemies are Immune to staggering thus, rolling is much more advised to avoid their attacks solo or use Tower Shields when with Friends. Health Bonus from Food affects your staggering limit which also increases how much attacks you can tank in a short time. Stagger depletes at 20% per second. Parrying secondary attacks(Middle Mouse on PC) during a PVP staggers an enemy player for a few seconds(2-3 Seconds) which makes them vulnerable for a full 2x 3-hit combo or 2x secondary attacks although it is very difficult to parry them without a high Blocking skill. Before you forge your shield be sure to click Style First to select other variations of your shield. Always be on Rested Buff at all times as Stamina and Remaining HP has an effect on whether you can tank a hit regardless of your stagger limit and blocking skill. All weapons and shields have movement de-buff. so it is advised to sheath them when not in combat by pressing R. equipping tools can also do but when in combat, you will need to re-equip your weapon and shield again. thus, slower response which is not recommended.

This may be an update since your video, but I believe that the serpent shield gives a 15% reduction of speed.

Use parry shields, silver roundshield, blackmetal shield. If you can’t parry for whatever reason, pretty much every attack can be blocked. Blocking is favourable to dying.

The "blocking power is based on total health"-thing is wrong as far as I can say. Don't know why they are saying that on the official video. The only way health affects blocking is indirectly through the stagger bar that lets your block fail, if it is filled. Staggering is dependent on your max health and the damage that comes through. I'm new to Valheim, but blocking power seems to work differently than before, when I have not played. Before blocking power was simply subtracted from the damage, now it reduces the damage similar to the armor-formular. That means it reduces the damage by subtraction as long as the blocking power does not exceed more than half of the damage, if it does, then it gets diminishing returns: Health damage = Damage^2 / (4* Blocking Power). So when you have as much blocking power as the damage, you reduce it by 75%. If you have two times the blocking power you reduce it by 87,5%. I don't know how integers are handled in this game and how numbers are rounded, but the system makes sense at least. This means blocking is now much better balanced, not as overpowered as before. In order to maximize it, you now need appropriate shields, use their parry bonus and have strong armor, so that the damage is reduced two times to numbers that do not fill your stagger bar.

this video is kind of common sense if u play games with good melee combat although I still die alot while building since I dont eat food then I fall and die i only run twohanders and bonmass for the fun of it and i dont die often maybe 1 death in plains every once in awhile but thats because my game auto saves and my frames drops to 1 u can turn off autosave btw if u have this issue. If you follow this man's advice u wont die.
