I am a blued steel/walnut purist, but a close friend and fellow hunter, and a rather picky bugger, owns the Ruger in .450 and loves the darned thing. His opinion and this video tell me it is a good rifle for throwing a round down range and on target.

I just recently found your channel and you're already in the top 5 of my most liked. Just the facts and no bs or bravado. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and collection with us. This video is so timely for me. I was I my local gunsmith shop today with my Savage 11 6.5 Creedmore that seems to have a short chamber...I was looking at and discussing alternatives. I looked at all three of these rifles. While I didn't remove the actions from the stocks, I did form an opinion based on feel and my personal preferences. With your review I got a much better look, especially at the stocks and actions. Through your review it appears to me that the Ruger may be the most rigid and robust design, but I really didn't like the feel of the forend. Of the three in the review I liked the Tikka the best overall. Just my preference. I too really love beautiful walnut and blued steel and I have a safe full of those that I want to preserve their beauty and would hate to be scratched in the field. The utility, stability and toughness of these new stocks and finishes also has its own appeal in the field. IMHO It's really great to have so many choices today. Thanks again for your excellent reviews and videos.

When I was younger and dumber, I bought a T3 in .243 with walnut stock, blued steel and a 4x scope. Functional, but a true Frankenrifle, blending old school with new school design. What was I thinking? Thanks to this channel, I know now that I should have bought a used Tikka 55 or Remington 788 for a fraction of the cost.

Just a couple things on the Tikka you have. The trigger guard assembly will come out of the stock. Maybe the previous owner glued it in. Also, that is an aftermarket bolt handle. Much bigger than factory. I have many brands, but lean hard to the Tikkas just because of the feel of the action. Other Budget guns don’t match up on smoothness... All my opinion, take it for what it is. Great job with the videos! As others have stated, T/C Compass is something you should consider. Exceptional value for the price. With rebate in late 2018, you can purchase for $225-$250. $75 less than that if you are a veteran...Looking forward to the video on the 99 stock!

I own both Ruger and Remington rifles in classic M77 and Rem 700 formats and they are quality firearms, but recently bought a Rem 783 in .300 win mag because it was a gun show steal and I wanted to get an intro to win mag without morgaging my house. The factory sight was ok but eye relief was dangerous with the .300 win mag. Put a cheap Primary Arms 4-14 ffp on it and it is a sweet gun for around a thousand Aussie dollars all up. No problems with any of it, yes the stock is the worst feature, but I like the rest of it that much I m going to chuck a cheap Boyd's on it. As you mention magazine is very nice, trigger is sound and it shoots straight with a smooth action. Can't complain. In fact may just buy a 223 HBT. THANKS for a great little review of all these guns.

Hello Juan - hard to beat the 783 for price/performance. I still have mine from the channel video and when I study it - I can see how well Remington did in designing and manufacturing an accurate and reliable rifle at a very low price.
@funkla65
@funkla65 3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the American, placing the second bedding block in the middle simplified the inclusion of the tang safety, and a block in the rear wouldn't have as much engagement area with the receiver. A downside to the mid location is that it does complicate things when you go to an AICS style mag with the release on the front of the trigger guard. Then you'll likely need to disassemble the mag release to remove your stock or chassis.

I have two of these three but I try to stay with the smaller calibers, my Remington is in .223 while my Tikka is 22-250. I enjoy shooting with both, and maybe I said before, I am not a hunter but I do enjoy target shooting non-competitively .For accuracy, my shooting tends to favor the Tikka,...is it a better rifle,..I really am not an expert at all, but I just know that I'd like to think so. Outstanding review, truly. I appreciate how you admit what you are unclear of in the manufacturing processes and techniques. Pardon my ignorance here please, what manufacturers of modern bolt action rifles is most similar to the iconic Mauser 98? I am considering a used Mauser M18. I cannot justify the $8K+ for the modern M98 Standard Expert and do not want to carry my M98 1945 8MM into the back country.

One big advice is not over-tighten the actions screws on composite stocks. The stocks have support winglets that would get crushed that might not be obvious and you would ruin some of the well deserved accuracy. The 35 in-lbs is the max recommended. Great information can be learned from Nathan Foster of Ballistic Studies. Although I own multiple of these rifles, almost all are re-stocked, which is why I don't mind the inexpensive and super-light default.
@UnitedStatesOfGuns
@UnitedStatesOfGuns 5 жыл бұрын
Very important message you send my friend. I hope everyone reads it. I don't want to single out one brand but I've seen exactly what you refer to - cracked stocks at the screws on composite stocks. One fellow turned the screw right into the stock - right through the surface material. Strong hands.

Thanks for a great video once again, but let me be the first to say “yucky” LOL. If forced to hunt with one of the “Tupperware Gang”, I believe I would choose the Sauer 100 XT or Mauser M18. Sauer was wise enough to manufacture the 100 with a birch stock option. My goodness look how far we’ve regressed from the days of luscious walnut and deep polished blue, to Tupperware and matte finish that starts to rust if it’s rumored to be in the same zip code as moisture. I’m sorry I just can’t let go of days of old, long live walnut and blue!!!

the reason you get asked about the remington trigger is because the 700's have a history of going off when the safety is switched off which as far as i know remington has done everything to hide and nothing to remedy. unless the trigger is improved i wouldn't touch one.

when you consider what you are not getting with a cheap synthetic stock, moneywise, it seems to me this is kind of a false economy in bargain rifles. utility wise, probably ok, but probably like buying a cheap scope and expecting durabilty and great performance. i glad i collected used, premium rifles in the previous century, when walnut from furniture waste was still available.

It wouldn't bother me that they exist but, for example, Winchester has been putting way more energy into coming out with new versions and calibers of their cheap XPR rifle instead of the Model 70. I would like to see them put more energy into new Model 70 versions instead of tons and tons of new XPR versions.
