I think it's worth re-purposed in the safe (putting a new combo unit on it) so you can use it. You can certainly do that cheaper than what it would cost to buy one of those new.

I bought a 40 foot Connex full of old eight liner gaming machines. There was a small safe in the back. I Montgomery Ward. It was built fairly well but didn’t take long for the guy to open it. There was $5000 cash in it. The downside is that I paid $5000 cash for the Connex. After examining all the gambling machines all the screens were busted but everything else was complete. Ended up losing quite a bit of money How did not have been for that safe.

Worked in 3 or 4 old buildings years ago that had safes. Best was from an extremely crazy dude. He swore the 4' high safe had thousands of dollars & valuable jewelry. Forgot how much he paid a tow truck to lift it up from basement. He took it out to the country and blew it up with God only knows how much dynamite. Only had some worthless papers. Then thought he would get a lot of money for all the scrape metal. Safe was mostly walls of cheap concrete covered with steel plate. Junk yard did not want it for free.

Makes sense. Your moving the last thing you want to load up is a 400 pound safe. Just take the valuables and leave it behind for the new owner.

I had a $100 Sentry safe for over 20 years with my coin collection in it. The combination stopped working so I had to break into it. Took me less than 3 minutes with a hammer and a pry bar.
