It's caused me no end of 'suicide inducing' anxiety and additional stress, a multiple widower having to cope utterly alone with 'near-fatal' assault induced PTSD and the physical injuries I sustained in the hour-long brutal assault. And these unscrupulous PIP advisors not only serve to hinder my recovery, but have essentially reduced me to merely existing, not living. It's just too much to cope with, being an abused multiple widower and the governments target for more abuse. 😡

Thanks to the Social Security Act, if the DWP make a decision regarding JSA and ESA and it’s incorrect, despite how much you interject (ie many claim NI credits NOT money via ESA) you have to pay it back. Therefore there is zero accountability or pressure on these Decision Makers to get it right because if it’s wrong, so what 🤷‍♀️ you have to pay it back.

Yeah that’s really interesting. I recently filled in a form relating to improvement to my property, better insulation, upgraded heating system etc. The lady I spoke with said she didn’t think that I would qualify as I didn’t receive any benefits. I told her that I was a pensioner but she stated that because it was an entitlement very little help was forthcoming. So apparently according to the politicians, the state pension is a benefit. That is until you want something. It then reverts back to an entitlement. Rip-off Britain strikes once again.😢

I am a pensioner. When I started work I paid "stamp", which was physically a stamp stuck on a record card. This "stamp" was my contribution to my old-age pension. The government seems to have forgotten this aspect. Having paid-up all my contributions I expect to receive and continue receiving a pension. I am appalled that where I live, my age or maybe how much money I may have saved, might be an affector to whether my pension is reduced or paid at all. Imagine if your employer's or personal pension tried pulling that trick! BTW that is separate from other means-tested benefits which may be paid. However the general incompetence which pervades and has pervaded our government for at least the last 40 years is sickening.

It’s all well and good saying that the lost money could pay for multiple hospitals - but crucially, we know the money would never be used for that, because this and previous governments have intentionally defunded and privatised our healthcare system. I would feel happier if they would first go after people at the top of the tree who evade their tax, and tighten the rules to prevent tax avoidance by the wealthy. It feels like we constantly see different branches of government punching down at individuals and those in the weakest financial positions while letting big corporations abuse our system and enabling the wealthy to further enrich themselves at everyone else’s expense. Their priorities are the wrong way round - no surprise when you consider that numerous people in government are themselves gaming the system.

It started with the disabled, then the unemployed and now the pensioners. They tell you they are checking to see if you are on the correct amount and If you don't send your bank statements to them you will have a sanction and loose money. The bank statements go to an email address. Someone you don't know is going through all your transactions and seeing your personal details and how you spend your money. You could stop a lot of benefit fraud by using fingerprint ID for all claimants. My reasoning for this is I’m a retired Detective, one claimant I dealt with was claiming in 11 different names across London. 11 council flats 11 claims. If he’d had to use a fingerprint to claim the second he’d tried to claim a second lot of benefits the system would have blocked him.

@@twitteriscrap7995 One possible downside is the cost of implementing your proposal. There's also the potential for data abuse. Holding fingerprint data has only ever been used for criminals and of course extending that would likely lead to a data sharing/data breach and or misuse issue. Benefit fraud could be cut by the DWP doing the job properly in the first place, something they do not do. A vast amount of money could also be saved at the same time as doing the job properly would mean the payments made in error, amounting to billions, would not happen as they do now. The DWP is a mess. Cleaning the mess is what's needed, not adding another layer of complexity for them to screw up with and mismanage.

What I would be most concerned about is if a mistake is made and an arrest is made or accounts are suspended, payments stopped, etc. and perhaps causing severe distress to an innocent, vulnerable family.

Well, I think they need to look at what the post office did when they had powers and still have at the moment. Will D W P go down the same route with their suggested powers was someone become overbearing because they can I think they may have the powers to investigate, then they investigation should be handed over to the police, they shouldn't have the powers to arrest or take peoples property just because someone has got the power to do so without actually having all the facts. And going to court where the evidence can be given and argument can be resolved one way or the other I thought that's what the law was for

Nope. The laws are for the rich and they just ignore the ones which they don't like.

I dont understand why dwp would want to cheque pensioners bankaccounts as my pension was based on lifetime insurance stamps

Because you're not mobile like a migrant and can't just run away and pop up somewhere else. You're a sitting duck. And you're courteous and polite so they know you won't cry, scream and throw things when they tell you you're getting too much pension money as proved by that four day trip to Paris you just enjoyed.

A few weeks ago I was asked to verify that I was the only resident of my house. Thos was requested as I had to renew my claim to single residency in order to receive the reduction on my community charge. My response was questioned by the DWP local tax officer as my residence showed that there was a bank account to another person attributed to my address. This was true, but it was a small account in my sister's name from which I draw funds to pay for my elderly mother's daily newspapers. My sister and her husband live in Australia. I was very uneasy that an organ of the state could retrieve this banking information and use it as they saw fit.

An example. Pension credit. You are allowed £10000 in savings and it won't affect your entitlement. However, let's say someone got a small windfall of £500 and added it to their account, thus £10500 the DWP would ASSUME that £500 earns you £1 per week and would reduce the pension credit accordingly. So they are ASSUMING 9% per annum interest. That stinks.

Absolutely wrong. Do what you want with my pittance of a pension but do not snoop on me. Let me live free. Who do you people on government think you are, our sovereigns? No! No! No!

This may never become law to look in to people's accounts and access how they will pass security, even the banks can't do this without your authority.
