JEEEEEZ getting a lot of comments about the Ukraine thing. Come on, you've seen my channel, you can't surely think I've swallowed the official narrative on what's going on out there?! This video is presented within the context of the articles I was concerned with - i'm not going to get into a full on debate of good guys vs bad guys when it seems pretty obvious that the water is muddy on both sides. If you want to get into the nitty gritty of what the 'war' is all about (I mean, other than money laundering) then email me. Yes there are other products that fund wars. Yes the petrol / diesel / oil industry is a total mess with a lot of blood spilt. This is meant to be about the hypocrisy of government 'green' policy not a 'whodunnit' on the war. ALSO... When I say "Build a studio" I mean "Buy a £250 caravan and put my deckchair and tripod inside" ALSO... When I say "200 miles to the coast" I am speaking as someone who likes surfing. My natural compass only goes south west. Right now i'm more than 220 miles from the UK's best surfing beach, hence the 200 mile comment. Sure I could get to a beach in about 90 miles from my current location but to get to a decent beach that doesn't have a. brown water and b. no waves I gotta go a lot further. "oh geoff we aren't all surfers this is all fake news" Tell that to the marketing people who do the marketing for campervans. IT'S CALLED THE F'IN CALIFORNIA!! Crikey this 'oh and also' comment is worthy of a video itself now....! Anyway here’s my VW iD Buzz review: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pq2kmtOdq6-Zp6c.htmlsi=TKPyWSVJK32KDn8F

This will make you laugh Geoff, the biggest tourism operator here in NZ introduced 4 electric camper vans to their fleet a few years ago. well, most of the rules are arbitrary, you can't really have a reliable, low cost, low consumption engine and not have some emissions. They did make the cheating device but they were not alone. Since almost all the manufacturers did it that means either that all of them are liars either the emissions limits were artificially tightened in order to push the diesel out of the market. Strange thing is that some people at Davos are talking about that. Those vans cannot be made simultaneously light and with enough range, at least not by using cheap steel to build them. Maybe with titanium they might do it.

EV’s have No Environmental issues as long as you ignore- The mining impair the battery building The money and mining needed to install chargers for every home. The money and mining needed to upgrade the grid to handle every car being an EV. The money and mining required to rebuild all these new renewable weather reliant power stations while closing down 24/7 all weather power stations. This guy is perfectly correct. I'm a new subscriber and on board. Everyone needs to wake up. As a retired Fireman, most are trained to Class 3 level. I was trained to Class 1, however, my license still qualifies me to drive up to 7 tons. Driving a heavier vehicle is completely different from the general car. But, be of no doubt, there are very bad drivers in all the Classes available as far as I am concerned, and some people should never be allowed to drive heavy goods, even passenger-carrying vehicles. New diesel Carrs are virtually completely green, yet they are trying to push us into Electric Vehicles. The News Channel keep reporting wildfires to push their Climate change agenda, YET, once again we see the Authorities now in Tenereef state clearly that the fires are being started by ARSONIST. My question is, is someone PAYING these people to start the firm or are they individual activists. I don't know, but most INTELLIGENT, people are very wise about this, and are not completely taken in by the nonsense bailed out on the BBC, ITV, Sky, and even GB News, as one Lefty knobhead ( and I'm being very kind there ) attempted to say the latter was all I watched. He's completely uninformed and assumes incorrectly. The RICH are making billions out of their so-called " climate crises", so we should meticulously scrutinise every little the MP's and their Elites Masters do. If they come after our cars, then we should go after their PRIVATE jets !! It's a fact the ELITES, are all very cross because the Russians are the second largest oil producer next to Saudi Arabia. We could all be accessing cheap oil, and they could make diesel cars completely pollutant free. And by the way. CO is not a pollutant. Good Communication is the key and common sense. Range, RELIABILITY, AND RECYCLING OF batteries in the present Electric cars are a major problem, and for the present time at least, I believe we should all try to avoid buying them. That's my informed opinion. VOTING LABOUR isn't helpful. For some reason, they are on the thick side, and even more obedient to the Elite Masters.

On a family holiday to Wales we did a total of 440 miles. Approx. range of our car is 140-150 miles. Left the house with a full charge. Had a loo break on the services, parked the car, plugged it in and tapped my card. Later on we stopped for a bit to eat. Parked up, plugged in, tapped my card. Arrived. Couple of day trips there, parked in a long stay on a slow charger, again plugged, tapped and went. Drive home, had mostly a full ish charge. Bit to eat again on the way back and car was on charge while we did that. Total time spent waiting around for a charge was the time it took to plug in and tap my card. While you were having that coffee which took you 5 mins to fill up to get to, you could have the car on charge (assuming a rapid charger is nearby which a lot of Costas etc. have). It really is just getting around this "must be able to drive non-stop for the full range of my car" mentality. I had a Picasso that could top 700 miles on a tank. My car now only does a 5th of that. Has it actually made any difference in the last 3 years? No. Granted I can charge at home which is a big plus, but honestly, when was the last time you did more than 150 miles without stopping? If you aren't in the car, then it could be on charge. Once you realise that, the range thing falls away.

We seem to be deflecting away from EV weights into a hairsplitting discussion about grandad license C1 entitlements. Just to reiterate - you cannot drive a commercial 7.5T truck EVEN if you have a post 1997 license without taking the CPC part of a class 1 HGV, and it's been that way for a couple of decades. In practice, 7.5T trucks are not used by fleets much nowadays, as the usual mix is 3.5T Lutons, 10.5T and 18T trucks, with bigbrig artics of 30T at the top end. There aren't many 7.5T trucks built nowadays. The 7.2T Iveco Daily is about the best seller, but even that is a Luton base (van). I'm a bit suspicious about anyone trotting this out so far on this thread, as they don't really seem to have experience of truck driving (as all this is obvious to anyone who has) 7.5T Fuso or DAF overlanders as jumbo campervans have a bit of a cult following, but I really don't know anyone else who drives them for leisure purposes outside that (as you cannot drive them commercially even on a grandad license). It's all hair splitting. There isn't going to be a big enough 3.5T + EV market for grandad license leisure vehicles. Manufacturers need a broad base, and commercial customers. I personally think it's dangerous to start modifying weight license categories to appease EV corporate lobbyists. Driving a heavy vehicle is not like driving a car. Not remotely. Anyone who says they are doing this are driving personal use leisure vehicles.

After a bit of research I found out there are 3 million terraced 1930s properties in the uk . But here’s the rub these houses and communities are in dense urban areas. Are hole communities going to be denied car access because of the location and age of home. These small urban communities and villages where built in the 30s when 15mm communities existed, work (the mine or steel works) was in walking distance all amenities where near by to support the community. Throughout the 80's and 90's (and some would say,still) VW consistently came bottom of the Customer Reliabilty surveys around the world. They turned the public perception around by a series of adverts with an advertising campaign with the slogan "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen". Same cars, same issues. A survey was done afterwards on why buyers opted for VW's. Answer? "Reliability". The power of advertising!

Last year (or maybe 2021) an associate of mine bought a new car (nothing exotic) and decided after about 8 weeks it was not for them. Went back to the main dealer and got the line about depreciation and it only being worth 12 grand less now. Weird, they had similar cars for sale at a premium as "immediately available". Almost as if they low-balled him. One of those online stores took it off his hands for only £2000 less than he paid a few days later. The following week the main dealer calls back to say they'd give him £5000 less than he paid as a trade in. How about "no"?

I had to take a truck drivers license years ago, as my work occasionally required driving of vehicles over 3.5T to remote places, so everyone needed to be able to drive, in case of emergencies. Its all done by weight - even if the vehicle isn't a truck. If it's 3.5T, 5T, 10T, etc., it's a truck, as far as driving agencies, police, insurance companies, are concerned. Driving heavy vehicles is very different to driving a car. This is nuts.

You also cannot drive a commercial vehicle on a grandad license, as you still need to take the CPC part of the class 1 license, post 1997. In practice, very few people ever drove a 7.5T truck for leisure. Trucks are very expensive to maintain or park. They also fell out of business use since the 70s, with better 10T options and 3.5T Lutons. It was more of a wartime thing.

Consider this anywhere in the world, Imagine Florida with a hurricane coming toward Miami. The governor orders an evacuation. All cars head north. They all need to be charged in Jacksonville. How does that work.? Has anyone thought about this. If all cars were electric and were caught up in a three-hour traffic jam with dead batteries, then what? Not to mention that there's virtually no heating or air conditioning in an electric vehicle because of high battery consumption. If you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating, no windshield wipers, no radio, no GPS (all these drains the batteries), all you can do is try calling 911 to take women and children to safety. But they cannot come to help you because all roads are blocked, and they will probably require all police cars will be electric also. When the roads become unblocked no one can move! Their batteries are dead. How do you charge the thousands of cars in the traffic jam? Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams. Yes, AAA is starting to prepare tow trucks to charge electric vehicles. How many can they charge before returning to home base and recharge the trucks? There would be virtually no air conditioning in an electric vehicle. It would drain the batteries quickly. Where is this electricity going to come from? Today's grid barely handles users' needs. Can't use nuclear, natural gas is quickly running out. Oil fired is out of the question, then where? What will be done with billions of dead batteries, can't bury them in the soil, can't go to landfills. The cart is way ahead of the horse. No thought whatsoever to handle any of the problems that batteries can cause. The press doesn't want to talk or report on any of this. Imagine being stuck in a snow storm at -20C.

Most products people buy in the UK are made in China so by following the war funding logic everyone is funding the war to just choose the one product you don't like could be seen as bias, all car manufacturers have always faked the range that cars can do including petrol and diesel not to mention emission fraud , the statement that china make all the turbines and solar panels is false they are made in several countries, the place furthest from a coast in the UK is Coton in the Elms Derbyshire at a massive 70 miles what coast are you going too, the camper range is interesting the driving recommendation is at least a fifteen minute break every 2hrs as much of a route to the coast is likely to be on non Motorway roads in that time you wont get near the 200 mile mark. if your not prepared to get into a full on debate on a subject you shouldn't really use it as evidence to support your claims. keep up the good work I enjoy your videos.

Besides exceeding the maximum weight for the driver's license, I don't think that lugging around all of that extra weight is particularly good for the environment. The people in those oversized monstrosities will argue that it is green energy and it's not bad for the environment. That's BS. They're all charging their vehicles at home, at night, when they sleep, when there's no solar energy and hardly any wind energy available. Those EVs run on fossil fuels or nuclear. But what about the charging stations? Those are only used by people that need to travel a big distance, or people that have charging included in their monthly lease fee. The rest charges at night on their domestic connection, because that's way cheaper. Anyway... the EV-based camper must to be able to drive from LA to Las Vegas or even Phoenix, in the middle of summer, in one go, at highway speed, without recharging, while maintaining 20°C / 68°F inside, with power to spare to grill a hamburger lunch on the go, on a 'green' electrical grill, instead of those pesky polluting charcoals. If the EV camper fails any of these, none of those spoiled rich people will buy it.

The C1 licence rules are particularly stupid. Pre 1997 licence holders can drive 7500kg and for many years 7.5 tonners have been as easy to drive as a transit van in the 1990s. To put a 7.50 tonner's load into 3.50 tonners needs three 3.50 tonne vans or trucks. Work out the payload of a 7.50 tonnes Daf compared to the very low payload of a Transit. It needs three vehicles, three drivers, three smaller loads, three times the traffic, more loading docks, more parking, times sets of tyres, servicing & repairs, three road tolls, more fuel used and more burnt and more pollution. What a ridiculous waste, it is so stupid and wasteful, you could not make it up.

Keep in mind cobalt comes from the "democratic" republic Kongo, controlled mostly by warlords which sell it to chinese companies. "We" pay them and get refugees from the wars we sponsor in return. I got curious and looked up the regular ID Buzz: It's max weight is 3 tons and empty (incl. a 75kg driver) it weights 2471kg... so in total you can only load 607kg (I added the weight for the driver that was included, to make it comparable). My old Audi A6 2.5TDI Avant Quattro Tiptronic (so one of the highest weight configs) legally can load 550kg. That's just 57kg difference between a VW Bus and a estate that's more of a style choice than a dedicated hauler (like the big old ones from Volvo, Opel and so on). If you go for a family holiday with a bigger family (for which you'd buy a VW Buzz) I could see people getting over the weight limit quite easily.

The public charging infrastructure in Britain may not be great, but it's not non-existent. I'm pretty sure you don't need to carry enough hay for the whole journey when you go camping in your horse-drawn caravan. If the American version of the idBuzz exceeds the 3½ ton limit, that's not really an EV problem, that's an American Bloat problem, which is apparent in most types of cars on sale today. We don' need no steenkeeng cromple zones, Gringo!

I just filled up my recently acquired car for the second time. The reserve warning light was not on and the trip meter read 499 miles. Its a diesel you can fill up anywhere. You can keep your Teslas. My chief gripe with EVs is the tax they pay to use the roads and fuel the things (almost nothing) so I am subsidising them by choosing ICE.
@GeoffBuysCars
@GeoffBuysCars Жыл бұрын
Same with my car, if I brim it, I can easily get 650 miles and the emergency fuel light won't switch on until my range is around 110 miles. There are EVs that on a full charge can only achieve what I can do with the fuel light on. That's not for me!

@6:51 Yeah, but "B" license owners up to the year 1999 can still drive C1 vehicles without additional training. 😉 It is an arbitrary number, especially due to the fact that the license test has become harder not easier over time. 😂 If you didn't get the punchline of the EU proposal yet, the idea is that normal cars still have to adhere to the 3500 kg rule but for those with "alternative" fuels it sad to be increased to 4250 kg. 😂

Anyway, the change being asked for is simply bringing back what used to be on the license, not adding something new. And ity makes sense as EV's are heavier than ICE's so you've more chance of going over the limit (Ha!) with this move to EV's (particularly if you want to extend the range)

No! A vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Weight (now more correctly known as Maximum Authorised Mass). It is the mass of the vehicle + payload. That limit applies whether the vehicle is full or empty. There are vehicles with a GVW, less than 3500kg. The 3500kg is the driving licence restriction.

Think the range issue is deliberate. When 15 min areas are introduced they don’t want you going far. You’ll be allocated a charging area. Enough to extend beyond the zone but no further. You’ll not be allowed to use chargers up and down the country like now. Can you not see what’s coming guys.
