I wanted to challenge myself to tell a story about "limited" gear using "limited" gear. I pieced back together an old drone that I haven't flown in ages, most of its hardware would be considered very outdated.
In addition, I wanted to put my own spin on this concept by using only my iPhone to film (with the exception of the on-drone shots where I used a GoPro as usual). Apologies for the shakey footage, but other than that I think it came out pretty well :)
Thank you so much for watching this video and supporting my channel. You guys are awesome. Really excited about my next video too so stay tuned!
The "Old School" Drone:
Detroit Multirotor Pitbull frame
OpenPilot CC3D atom flight board
SunnySky 2204 2400kV motors
DYS sn20a ESC's
Cheapo camera and vtx combo I got off Amazon a long time ago.
My "new and fancy" drone:
MQC XHD airframe
Motolab Cyclone flight controller
DYS SE2205 2300kV
DYS XM20a ESC
hs1177 fpv cam
FX799t video transmitter

Damn Drew that was amazing. I think the latest and greatest gear, combined with the latest and greatest pilots, can produce such mind boggling free style stunts that the difficulty, speed, attitude and directions happen so fast, that it starts to be not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye. And you don;t have to pause and review it a few times to see what happened. I like those videos too, but you seem to stay amazing, yet please my brain at the same time. The old quad did fine -- with you flying it -- the new one look like it opened some more territory, but you still used it in a very pleasing manner. Really smooth and very slick. I love your style. Very impressive.

Man I love this style of flying, editing, music. So much better than random flips and rolls all over the place, I feel like I want to be flying along next to it. The move at 5:30 seems doable, especially with your tutorial on the Mattyflip, I'll try to learn it. But the one at 9:09 where you flip backwards though the window....damn.

I agree, he has the best flying style. The vids where guys do crazy fast flips and rolls are disorienting and don’t take as much skill as the smooth flying Le Drib displays. It’s funny because I didn’t see the date of this video and was like WTH he lost his smoothness. Lol You are right about that move at 5:30. I just tried a Matty flip for 2 weeks and after dozens of crashes and broken parts, I tried that move at 5:30 and did it the first time under a Street light. Second time I crashed though lol. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e5aDZNp6sajdpqc.html

I use an airframe that was designed 1 and a half years ago, esc's that are around 1 year old, FC that is over a year old and the radio and receiver are older designs than mini quads. Motors, camera and vtx are the only new things I used but I only changed from a 3 year old design vtx a few months ago. Stop believing in the hype and just what works. Some things are an advancement, some are marketing.

The hazards of rescuing drones has become an emotional subject for me. BE CAREFUL! I acted like a mother bird, and climbed a 62' tall, skinny pine tree, with a Phantom struck at the top. This video couldn't have come at a better time for me. Have been really wanting to get into mixing vlogs with my flying lately. After getting excited to do it, and getting equipment lined out to finally start, I realized that my Canon EOS T5 is garrrbo for vlogs :/ I'm a perfectionist that feels like I have a good eye for video so not having the right equipment is almost enough to make me quit before even starting. After seeing you switch things up today with the iPhone though I'm going to keep that plan to vlog. Video quality looked solid and until I can get something better this will do. Thanks for taking the time that it takes to make good vids. It's not really about what you got it's more about the time that you put into it.

I have been thinking a lot of the same things. 20a esc's ARE still good/viable equipment, even in an ocean of 30a 4 n 1's. BlHeli S is still AMAZING, multishot is still AMAZING, heck 2204's are still AMAZING. yea 2306's are rad, yea 2207's are rad, but 2204 & 2205 still HAUL ASS just like they did 6-18mo ago. 130g frames are still nimble as fuck. It's hard to keep perspective with the excitement people feel at their sub 250g builds, and that needs to stay, I love the psyche. I have to remind myself every day that I don't NEED to replace my FC, ESC's, and motors with all the cars on the ol' hypetrain. Cheers man, great vlog :)

I got one of those drones for taking pictures and had fun just flying it with the hand controller and decided to look into fpv. So I got a little mini drone for my gf and I and I just want to start practicing and work my way up. So far your videos have been pretty encouraging and the footage you create makes it look REALLY fun. How come I never see acrobatic flights do any pause and hovers? Is it impossible due to the way they are built for speed and angling? #subscribed
