These Jade plants are SO amazing. I live in a subtropical climate and we have them in the gardens around our house. I love how they get the pinkish edge when in full sun and also how you showed the leaf growing a new plant just by laying on top of the soil. I have a few in pots indoors now (since watching your earlier videos) and will try to shape them when they size up a bit. Thanks for an interesting video on your Jade plants Jeff. Cheers.

Last year I purchased a variegated Jade plant online. It arrived as an 8” tall plant. It obviously had been started as a cutting as the leaves were quite mature looking. What bothered me was it was in a 21/2” pot and was completely root bound. One solid block of roots that were impossible to loosen up. I am amazed that the plant looked so good. It has since grown quite a bit and I am beginning to prune for the first time. It is difficult to decide what to trim since it had already been pruned before I got it. Those places that have grown in are still immature. Maybe I will wait until next growing season.

12:12. I used the paste for the first time a few months ago. I used it on my Jade, pothos, scindapsis, and Adansonii. They all were successful except for the scindapsis. I used a small tack to make a tiny hole at each node and then put the paste over where I made the hole. If yours doesn’t work definitely try to make a little hole or scratch the node open a little. It 100% worked for me.

My favourite one is the Crassula ovata minor and the Crassula ovata hobbit. Both very hard to come by. Especially ones that has already a thick tree trunk and thick branches. I do want to make it a bonsai look see more of the wooden stems and bark. But always nervous in cutting off plants. I really appreciate this video (well, all of your videos actually. lol) The more I watched in this video. The more I find myself loving the jade plant. It truly is a magnificent plant! I have a jade a Crassula Ovata, sorry for the missed spelling. I have pruned it in May of this year. It is growing new shoots and they look very cute. However, I didn't prune back as far as you showed in this video. (I had watched another person on KZfaq, show me how to prune before I discovered your channel.) I have little stubs that are about half the length of the original growth of the plant stem. So, many of the new shoots are growing on either side of were I cut. I'm not sure whether it is safe to prune back more or, just leave the stems be.

Thanks for all the education on jade plants! I adopted some small jade plants of different varieties last year, and now one or two are large enough for me to consider pruning. When you cut off a stem and let it root in soil, you said to leave it for 2 weeks and do nothing. Is it best to use completely dry soil? Or new soil that has some moisture content? My plant is already in completely dry soil so I'm worried it might be near the time when leaves could get a bit wrinkly without watering, especially with no roots and no other moisture.

I am living in Turkey at the moment. It’s still 25 C° and up. Should I wait till spring? Repot now prune later? Could you please give me an advice or two🙏🏽❤️
@succulents.channel
@succulents.channel 3 ай бұрын
Hello, I had my suspicions about this theory and I started to put it to the test. Since when we transplant to a larger pot we still prune the roots. Succulents in general resist transplants very well, it is recommended to transplant every one or two years, and root pruning is also important. So we shouldn't have any problems 🌱

Thanks for this exceptional tutorial! Is that a Hoya Carnosa on your shelf behind you? I love this plant....when it blossoms it it so fragrant! They are soooo slow growing tho! Years ago, I bought on with my hubby - it was HUGE, and had 75 clusters of blooms on it. When it finished blooming, a called a respected florist store and they told me to prune it back to the last set of leaves! Well, it died. And they didn't know that the blossoms come back every year on the nodes they told me to cut off. I currently have 5 small plants and they are growing well. (no blooms yet). Would you consider (please!) doing a tutorial on these beautiful plants? I for one, would really appreciate it! Fan from SW Ontario, Canada!

Thanks for this video. Ive dabbled in Bonsai for years and find our growing season in the Pacific North West difficult to manage plants. Please comment on my plan to grow Jade Bonsai's. Im always so busy in the summer months that nurturing 1 or a dozen trees outdoors in our typical summer heat is difficult on a daily basis. I think im going to get into Indoor plants instead. Im currently sitting on about 40 Jades of different sizes. Many are small cuttings and a few are mature trees. It appears to do this successfully; I need to keep them in small pots when infants and then progress up to a gallon pot as they become 18" or so. Then as they mature, I could reduce the root ball and put them into smaller pots as they age. It appears from this video, they need the growing cycle of an outdoor planted jade with lots of soil so their roots can develop? Then as they age, they can become bonsai? Thanks so much for your work on youtube. Your videos are great! PS, How's that branch propagating going on those long branches you show here?

What are your thoughts on root pruning a large (5’ on wood pole) single stem , highly fenestrated monstera . It is nicely shaped gets morning sun for half of the day. Hey! I got my first jade plant about a month ago, and I've been obsessed with them. Thank you so much for posting all these videos, it's quite entertaining! As of right now my jades are thin and tall, with a single stem. Would they be able to grow thicker trunks without cutting off the main stem? All I did was cut off some leaves at the bottom.

Congrats on your new jade! They will get thicker and woody over time but if they get too tall they can start to sag and bend. Pruning helps control weight, promote branching and growth lower including thickening up the main trunk

How often do your water jade plant in the winter?
@reedrobb
@reedrobb 5 ай бұрын
once a month or longer. Once the soil is dried out, wait for many of the leaves to get soft. top leaves will feel different than bottom leaves at first. Soft is noticed by them being foldable, bendable and also have a weak structure to them. Then give it a good soak, wait 30 minutes and soak it again. clay pots are best, drain holes underneath and a cactus soil is preferred.

Hi Jeff - I have a golem jade tree that I purchased and I'm slowly killing it; a majority of the leaves are shriveled and limp. I'm thinking I should prune all those off and possibly chop the very substantial root system somewhat. I further believe the problem has been that the watering hasn't been penetratraing this whole time, because the top of the soil is hard like a drum, sorta like you were saying this one was. Any thoughts? Thank you for the awesome videos all around, I have learned so much from you & really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me and the greater world. You're the best!

Hello, how often can we do the pruning?is it ok to do it couple of times during the growing season?

Ya! If it's a fast grower then you can definitely prune again. I pruned in early spring and then some light pruning in this video

What type of fertilizer do you use for your jades and how often?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Жыл бұрын
I use dyna grow foliage pro for all my plants. I have switched to fertilizing with a diluted amount for every watering instead of once a month. The reason for this is because I have way too many plants to keep track of when they get fertilized. All of my plants seem to love the small, consistent nutrient watering

if its an older jade you will struggle. You might need to cut them off and propagate them. If they are young and flexible, you could wire them as you would a bonsai

I just spray them off with water, but just make sure the water doesn't stay on the leaves. You can place a fan nearby to provide airflow

HI'itsCHEF. 😂 I have bought 2 cheep dish generic led for 2 od my Philodendron shevles. They are 18w and to close to the leaves (few insches) Normally i would have then on for 12-14 hours, but they are must to powerfull. Hende they are now on for 6 hours. Would i be adviseret to give the plants 30 min rest, with light off, for every 2 hours. So as not to burn the leaves, or will my 30 min resttime not have any bebefits, in the fear of burning. Thank you for the 2nd best plant channel here. Simon from Denmark.

He also led me the way to yours amazing channel. I love that you are contekst driven, no unnessesary 2014's demo sound intro logo. Straight to the point. @@SimonDambro okay, I'll give it to tech plant.... Definitely one of my favorite channels to watch as well. I wouldn't cycle the grow light on and off... LEDs for the most part emit low heat, so you're really shouldn't have to worry much about leaf burn unless it is extremely close to the actual leaves. I have mine on for 14 hours a day and I have never had any issues with LED lights.

you have a higher chance of root rot this way, Just air dry until calloused over and then pot them. Some say a few hours, I go a few days, roots should develop in a few weeks.

You can let the cuttings dry out for a bit, then stick them straight into dry soil. Don't water for a couple of weeks.
