The Minigun will definitely help with the death claw.

I find it a lot easier to play in first-person mode rather than third-person mode, I find it makes the camera easier to control, and it's easier to interact with objects, pick things up, etc. A high-intelligence, high-charisma character could be fun to play, especially since you can have companions to help with the fighting as you progress further in the story!

I love how you instinctively kill Preston. You'll feel that again later in the game.

You can be alone anywhere and look up and know that billions of people over thosands of years have gazed in wonder at the same sky. Clearest sky I ever saw was driving through the Mojave desert during a huge thunderstorm that just stopped dead. Clear, fresh sky, the crisp smell of ozone. Not a soul or city for miles and miles, just me and that sky. Beautiful.

it is wise to take cover when being shot at. if you aim at parts over 70 percent it is easier to win. Head shots do a lot of damage only if you hit! Watching you play was a lot of fun. Do not shoot until the dot or cross hairs in the middle of the screen are on what you want to shoot at. Always identify target first. use stimpaks when health is low. Remember to take cover.

This is the reason I started playing video games. I own a German Shepherd dog and many Geiger counters.

On the bottom right of your screen there's a bar that says AP. That's your action points. Using the targeting system(VATS) requires action points. If you don't have enough, you can't use VATS. Rest a little and it will refill. Also the number that appears is the chance to hit that part. For instance if it says 80 on the torso, but 25 on the head, that's 80% and 25%. Aim for the torso. If you don't have any AP, you can still use your gun. That dot in the center of your screen turns into a cross for aiming. When you get to a safe place, practice aiming at a spot on a wall. You missed the big gun on the roof. I don't think you can defeat a Deathclaw without it at this level. Go into the building on the corner, right when you jump off the roof. He can't get in and you can shoot him from safety.

Take the minigun on the crashed vertibird on the roof next to the armor before jumping down. 😉 Also, you can select in VATS (the aim assist) to shoot multiple times, not just once, as far as I remember.

Attacking Preston was hilarious, but is also a good lesson - not everyone in the world is out to get you. This series is a delight, it brings back memories of when I was first playing FO4, making mistakes and learning. Others have mentioned it, but combat in first person is so much easier. learning VATS will help you stay alive. VATS also identifies friendly (green) or foe (red). If you favor melee combat, get your agility up and take the Blitz perk. Also increase strength, as it increases damage with melee weapons. Taking the Sneak perk will help you stay alive as well when out of combat, also in the agility column. Looking forward to seeing the next part!

I really find it very interesting watching players who don't really ever play video games. From a game design standpoint, you can gage where the game might have failed the player verses the player being very new to it all and just not understanding what is required to get through a particular area.

I am so glad for part 2, can't wait until Elina gets into some of the meatier lore and especially looking forward to her first venture into the glowing sea.

I got hooked as soon as she asked the vault tec question, it brings me back to being a new fan and I miss those days.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do is have someone guide you in person on another character, and then come back to this character with what you've learned. Having someone right there to help can make a world of difference in learning how to play the game.

What's funny is that Elina is doing a lot better than other players I've seen, and those players aren't gaming newbies. For example Elina didn't walk by the ammo box, she actually looted the contents. Someone tell Elina that the container menu (that popup with the "Take" and "Transfer" options) displays if the crosshair happens to be over a container (whatever the game considers as a container). I've seen other players freakout and spend 30 minutes checking all the key/gamepad mappings, gameplay settings, etc, just to find out how to "close" the container menu...lol. Her fight with Preston was hilarious :P

The amount of things to learn is daunting at first but it gets easier the more you play. Find what class of weapon you like most and focus learning skills and finding/buy better versions of it. Eventually you will be unstoppable.

That minigun will really help, also some tips when using V.A.T.S the numbers are chance of hitting in % so headshots unless you are pretty close will ofc have lower hit chance and you can also select multiple shots, you can see how much damage the enemy will take from each shot, some tips for fighting that death claw, I recommend going inside of the building there so it can't get close to you and shoot it from the cover of that building, also when you can't use V.A.T.S it's because you don't have enough action points, those are in the botton right, it's also your stamina so it will drain when spriting or jumping when still or just walking/running but not sprinting it recovers.

Remember, he said use the power suit to pickup the minigun from inside the Vertibird. Good effort though! It’s a really addictive game once you get the hang of it ❤

I've been playing Fallout games for over a decade now and have recently been watching Fo4 videos while I perfect my mod list (don't get into the modding aspect, it will rob you of your time and the games will become unplayable without mods) and it is wonderfully nostalgic to see someone play one of my favorite games who is entirely new to it. I hope to see a part three!

I say this bit of advice knowing full well you're not a gamer, so please don't think of it as being critical. I hope you're having fun, and would certainly like to see more! To get the most out of VATS, the biggest thing you can do is to position so your target doesn't have cover. You will notice that when you select a target, there will be a number indicating your chance to hit out of 100. When your target has cover, your chance to hit will drop immensely, and it'd be better to move or take cover yourself than to stand in the open attempting a 30% or lower shot. Honestly, given what I've seen so far I think you might try a melee build supported later by armorsmithing, powersuits and stimulants. Your biggest concern once you have that going will just be surviving long enough to get next to them. And maybe having some sort of longer range weapon you can get used to for emergencies.

:) I'm a physicist (not nuclear, IT/electronics) and a HC gamer since the '90s. You can reach me and get some pointers. First few: use a PC, not a console. I think you can be better with a keyboard+mouse combo, besides the controller is f.lame. K+M is A LOT faster. Use 1st person view, never 3rd - you are YOU, not someone else and you really don't want to watch your "back" all the time. Your body hides a lot, and fps gets you nearer and you see a lot more. Hide. Crouch. I didn't play this game too long, I don't know all the hidden stuff, because I played it over in - I shouldn't say how fast, i'd be flamed.

This is an amazing series, can't wait for part 3!

Glad to see you are getting better, stick to first person view - it's easier to shoot and move around in general. Salvage what you can - good to see your looting skills have gone from zero to decent.

Hey Elena, I loved watching this again. I noticed you were a lot more comfortable beating enemies to death than shooting them. You might want to focus on getting melee weapons, heavy armor, and building up your melee weapons skills (hand to hand fighting). Then you don't have to worry about your aim anymore, or ammo for that matter. This one makes melee much easier than the older fallout games too, too, because your weapons don't need to be fixed up all the time in this one to keep them from breaking. As you explore you'll find like baseball bats, flaming swords, chainsaw swords, things like that. Also, in that power armor, you can sprint into most humans, it will hurt them

as a diehard fallout 4 fan this is such a fun series

you missed the mini gun on the crashed aircraft :) pay attention to your health bar! it makes a big difference. also, you can shoot at the deathclaw (monster) from inside the building in front of the museum :) he can't fit in there due to his sheer size. Don't rush! take your time and scavenge around! you'll fund bullets/ammo in the strangest places sometimes. aside from that, you're very adorable! you'll get good in no time lol p.s. when you level up, you gain a perk point which you can invest in other perks or your special skills, press(B) to bring up pip-boy, then press (Y) to bring up the perk chart, there you can invest your points in perks every time you level up :)

Hey Elina, without giving too much away I thought I might explain a little bit about the game. The numbers that show on enemy bodies while you’re in VATS are your % chance to hit any one of those limbs on that target; any chance to hit below 65-70 is pretty dicey, and every action that you take while in VATS will deplete AP (Action Points) which is shown in the bottom right of the screen. If you run out of AP then you can still start VATS but you won’t be able to attack anything, that’s when the game makes the du-du-du sound. You can also see how much damage VATS thinks you will do while you are targeting an enemy on their health bar at the top of the screen (it will flash). Also, you missed the Minigun! 😅 No big deal, you’ll get it next time, that’s quite a bit of fire power while it lasts. Keep in mind that your ammo is tracked right above your AP bar and also that as you move or use VATS in the power armor you will lose charge on your fusion core (you can also see both in the pip-boy). If your core runs out then your power armor will be very very slow. A bit of lore: the world of Fallout is of course post apocalyptic but it is a particular blend of the future (you can check the date in the pip boy under the data tab) as well as the surrealistic sci-fi concept of what people of the 60’s thought the future might look like. The pre-war world achieved many technological innovations including power from nuclear fusion, AI in robotics as well as laser and plasma based weapon systems; much of which was achieved without the development of the transistor for an extended length of time. Fallout’s historical timeline only lines up with real history through World War 2 and then it diverges, the “Great War” which you experience in the beginning of Fallout 4 happens in October of 2077. Fusion cores in the game do not individually produce power from nuclear fusion but they are batteries charged by reactors that utilize nuclear power. Nuclear power also drives most of the pre war vehicles that you see in the world which is why you will notice that pre war “gas” stations actually primarily sold coolant and if you damage those vehicles enough they will blow up in a small nuclear explosion. The world isn’t entirely realistic but it is very interesting to hear what comes to your mind as a nuclear physicist while you play! Hope you enjoy the game! Can’t wait for the next episode!

I love watching these, main reason I subscribed lol! Other then grabbing the Minigun from the vertiberd before you jump off the building. I also find it helpful hiding inside the building closest to the museum while fighting the Deathclaw because it can’t get inside and you can shoot at it while hiding in there. Also try aiming with the left trigger while shooting. May also help to switch to first person for aiming and looting. Just try pushing random button and see what they do so you can figure it out.

Never jump off the building without the Minigun and lookup how to get out of third peson mode, but your getting there.

Meanwhile the back seat gamer in me is screaming at all the loot she walks straight through. “Oh would you look at those stars” walks straight past mini gun.

With the VATS, the number is percentage of probable hits; and you can stack the shots to rapidly go pew-pew-pew rolling the dice essentially.

I like your playthrough, your enjoyable to watch.

1st person view is easier to aim and to see what you pick up because the centre of the screen is your cursor. Also you can take the minigun on the roof. When you do the aim assist (it's called VATS in the game), the numbers are the percentage chance of hitting, and you use up points to do that, called AP (action points). That's why after 2 or 3 tries you cannot do it anymore, you have to wait for the AP to go back up.

That was more fun than anything I've seen for a long time.

Where you get into the power armour there in a minigun on the crashed vertibird take that and kill all the enemies from the safety of the roof.

Just a couple of pointers I wish I had when I started playing. Crouching makes it harder for enemies to see you. On the bottom right, AP stands for action points. You need those in order to use VATS. They replenish over time. If you’re using a gun, you will see what looks like a fraction. The top number is how many bullets you have currently in the gun. The bottom one is how many bullets you have of that type in your pockets. In the Center of the bottom is your compass. This includes spots representing other people/ animals. If they’re red, they are enemies. If they’re the same colour as the rest of your UI (green or yellowish), they’re friendly at the moment. Unfortunately just going on looks of an NPC, you can end up killing friendlies. First person is WAY easier to use. Especially aiming. Save often. You will die frequently. Most Deathclaws cannot fit through standard doorways. Enemies of different types will attack each other on sight. This will eliminate some/most of them and you only have to fight whoever is left from that. Plus, the winner of that will have reduced health. Say, raiders and Deathclaws. You can run past the raiders to the plate where the Deathclaw comes out. Then run into the closest building. I hope these help.

If you enjoy playing dystopian-themed games with a connection to radiation, I can highly recommend "Metro Exodus". In this game, which is set in Russia, one sometimes needs to don a mask to protect oneself from the radiation and the latter is depicted as tiny flashes in one's field of vision and also as audible clicks. Quite nerve-racking, especially if one is low on filters for the mask.

You can hold the option button for a sec to turn on the light on your pip boy. Also you can increase/decrease your third person perspective by pressing and holding the touch pad and then move the right stick backward or forward.

Been looking forward to this for a while. :-) Glad you got the hang of VATS (the turn-based combat system), but you need to look around every corner first, before running around them, and also try not to stand out in the open too much. Use cover as much as you can - especially in a large firefight. But it's fun watching a nuclear physicist learn how to play Fallout 4. I'm wondering if you'll manage to get into base-building, which is fun. Or find out what happened to Shaun, which is mind-blowing.

Watching you reminds me of my first play through. This is so fun! Personally, I would switch to first person. Second, use the green crosshairs in the middle of the screen to target for shooting, picking up stuff, and talking. The AP meter in the lower right hand tells you how many points you have to use VATS. And the minimum will (eventually) get rid of the deathclaw. I’m excited to see you progress and enjoy one of my favorite games!

When you're targeting with VATS you can fire multiple shots by clicking more than once. You can target different shots at different body parts too.

😂😂 You need to practice Shoot (shoot the target) and then Scoot ( move your character to another position) to Cover ( a place where your character can not be shot).

When you are using the V.A.T.S targetin system that auto-aims at people, you can press the controller trigger many times so you can shoot many times in a row, that will make your long distance fights way easier.

If you want another game with nuclear theme, you could give Stalker series a try. There are 3 games at the moment with the 4th on the way. It takes place in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The story and lore is pretty interesting and it combines real life events with made up stuff. I figured it might be interesting for someone who is a nuclear physicist.

This is great! Followed you and loved Fallout separately for a long time. There is something about it that just works, please don’t stop. There is an upcoming next gen update for this game and a there is a tv series coming up. They should be sponsoring you!!!

Preston tells you to get the fusion core and the minigun. 11:55 and 12:15. You can let the deathclaw deal with some of the raiders, I'm pretty sure if you just aim in the direction where the deathclaw bursts (he breaks an underground pipe in the middle of the town and jumps out). It seems like you upgraded a few levels, make sure you increase the stats where you need them. Also, don't randomly shoot people. Not everyone out there is hostile, but they all turn hostile once you start shooting at them.

I'm loving the series! I'm new to the channel and I would love to see more fallout 4! Some Tips: You can use the VATS targeting system to attack an opponent multiple times by pressing attack multiple times while in VATS. In addition, your VATS is limited by a resource called AP or ability points, listed on the lower right of your screen. Also you may want to go back for that minigun you went past up on the roof by where the power armor started. You will need to be wearing the power armor to rip it from the vertibird however. When aiming or selecting, hover the reticle or crosshairs over your target Drinking water, waiting in a safe place using the wait function, or sleeping will recover health. Drinking dirty water restores health at the cost of taking a small amount of radiation damage which can be cured with Rad-Away. You can hotkey your stimpacks or go to your pip-boy inventory/aid menu to access your stimpacks and heal I hope these tips help you have a fun and enjoyable playthrough!
