Respectfully, I don’t think I’ll get a lot of use out of this feature. For one thing, it’s very expensive to have your videos dubbed in multiple languages, so I think this will largely be a privilege reserved for larger channels. And second, KZfaq is already so vast that there’s an near-unending abundance of native content available in your target language, whether that’s Spanish, Swedish, or Swahili. I wouldn’t want to watch MrBeast in English, let alone with some foreign soundtrack overlayed that doesn’t match the movements of his mouth. Part of the joy of language learning is to discover new cultures and people and parts of the world. So, I think I’d get a lot more out of watching Luisito Comunica travel through Latin America, while being able to watch his lips actually produce the audio I’m hearing. That way, it would help me me to move my own mouth to imitate Spanish pronunciation. Finally, let’s not forget to mention the Mexican mannerisms, flare, style, and all that nuance that I would never get by watching some Anglosphere creator with a dubbed video. Sorry for being a bit rambly. Awesome video as always. I’ve been a subscriber since early 2020 and haven’t missed an upload! Cheers.

@@ChristopherBonis Exactly. People will only bother with this for the biggest languages like English, Spanish and maybe Mandarin. The smaller languages that don't have much available content won't get dubbed anyway. It's a cool feature but as someone who's learning Swedish, I can't imagine that this will be of any use to me. Let alone for someone who's learning Estonian..

Slight correction: Translated titles also appear when a video has subtitles for that language, not necessarily dubs

Slight correction on your correction: It's actually dependant on the data that the creator gives KZfaq. I can (and have) made my video titles appear in Spanish despite the video not having Spanish subtitles or a Spanish dub.

I find those videos all the time when searching for tech tutorials. Title obviously auto-translated to German (my native language). Thumbnail in English. Video in Hindi (I only assume it's Hindi as according to google translate, all the comments are). English subtitles are random garbage, maybe made from interpreting Hindi as English. I don't know whether those people actively enable the German title, if so, I am even more confused.

Only a tiny percentage of creators will actually be motivated and able to go to the trouble of adding multiple language audio tracks (in languages other than English)... until KZfaq figures out how to autogenerate such tracks via AI and text-to-speech.

Lol Well.... I spent like 16 months learning a new language to expand my youtube content into Europe by making content both in English and French. Ouch, I still can't believe this technologie is about to be available. So adding mutliple language audio tracks really shouldn't be a huge barrier in my eyes

Check out VALL-E X, it does exactly that. This was a smart move from KZfaq, I bet within 3 years they’ll be generating alternate language tracks automatically for some channels.

I liked community driven subtitles more. People who had make them often included a little sidenotes with an explanation of a joke, pun or slang.

The problem with community subtitles was that almost everyone was submitting promotions for their own Instagram or some crypto scam or something.

I am slightly doubtful that this will be widely adopted, but institutions that already dub their content certainly will. E.g., I could see things like UR Play having their content dubbed into the Swedish minority languages and having those audio tracks available on KZfaq. There also use cases for things like audio-described videos for those that are vision impaired. This is a good feature that KZfaq has been missing for awhile now. Does this work also for films that can be purchased or rented on KZfaq? Given KZfaq already provides auto-translated subs, I wonder if it is on their roadmap to have eventually have text-to-speech audio available for videos.

I have doubts that this will have a major impact on how content creators make their videos. A lot of very large creators aren't even putting the effort to put subtitles in their videos, let alone putting the resources in for a separate dub. Perhaps some bilingual youtubers will get some interesting usage out of it but I have trouble seeing it used widely.

Yea i guess it depends on the youtubers circumstances. some youtubers may be lucky and are multilingual or have friends that are multilingual and want to help for free or a small payment. but a lot of people will need to hire a voice actor and that is way too expensive most youtubers. most youtubers are just one person making stuff maybe they got someone to do editing and some other behind the scenes work. but even someone like me could take advantage if this feature if i was still making videos since i am multilingual and i don't need other people to help me with this.

The multiple subtitles are already a nightmare. If you are ok with subtitles but you don't like translations, youtube doesn't know the difference, it will automatically show you the subtitle in the language it thinks you want to read. Also, sometimes you search for something and find out the video is actually in another language. Anyway, google services are made for monolinguals, they don't care if you can speak 2 or 20 languages, and most of their language-related features will make our lives more inconvenient.

YES! Every google service is so clearly made for and by monolinguals! I have been trying to break the algorithm and having it recommend content in my other languages than English about subject I enjoy, but it always pushes me back to English even though I am subscribed to several non English channels. And it just so irritating that you can't opt out of the auto translate shit if the owner of the channel use that feature. It has ruined my enjoyment of so many East Asian channels. I seriously wih google would understant that it is actually more common to be bilingual than to be monoligual and that many places it is even preatty common to be trilingual. I am sure the way gooogle works is contributing to pushing more languages towards becoming extinct in the future.

Very awesome! KZfaq is really making my life easier. I've been debating whether or not I should publish my podcast and novel into Japanese. But now that we can add multiple language tracks, I can just add the Japanese track on KZfaq to grow my English and Japanese audience! Thanks for this video!

I teach adults Spanish and I have begun to notice the variety of subtitles available. Now I am going to check back for English to Spanish audio...that would be awesome! You Tube does way more now than it used to and it benefits my students.

Will be amazing for my language progress to be able to watch a video in English, then re-watch full comprehending what's going because of the initial watch but now in Spanish. Will also be interested to see if youtube changes their stance on swearing if channels now offer a standard version, and a censored version. A lot of potential, though a part of me feels that the added effort may make this whole concept drop off in a couple years.

Like you said, it doesn't seem like this feature will become prominent for while, if at all, but it's definitely cool to think about. Personally, I can't say I would enjoy watching things dubbed in another language if the mouth movements don't match up with the creators, however I am looking forward to hopefully getting some videos recommended to me that I wouldn't have had otherwise because the default language is different to mine. Thanks for the video, definitely would've slipped under my radar if I hadn't seen this video. Also in regards to having different versions of the same audio, that's what I see as the coolest part of the potential for this feature. Maybe people could add toned-down versions of soundtracks for people trying to study with it in the background or maybe that have a sensitivity to sound. It would also be cool to see fully descriptive audio tracks for blind people to be able to enjoy :) (also perhaps there is already a feature for them that I am unaware of!).

It this feature was available to people other than the creator (with some kind of permission request facility to prevent hijacking), this might turn into a nice feature for speakers of the smaller languages wanting to make content in that language available (basically for the sake of survival of the language). So imagine a Zulu viewer of DFNS decides that one of your videos would make a nice addition to Zulu culture, for instance. It could be a relatively simple matter. Ask for your permission to do a Zulu dub track, and then piggyback off all the hard work you've done on the video production side. (Or on another day, ask someone who's produced a great English video on the art of changing tyres quickly for permission to dub it into Lingala. Culture is meant in a broad way.) I suppose this extension would be for some future time, so this is getting too far ahead of the plot.

@@sicko_the_ew Wow that was a deep take, and whilst I'm not entirely sure I understand you fully, I think I agree with you. I'm super grateful that we have this lingua franca with which people from all different backgrounds can communicate with each other, and am even more grateful that it happens to be my mother tongue, but I definitely also think there would be massive losses if we let said lingua franca take over everything. And as you said, sometimes it really does feel like that's what it's doing. Also, while languages are certainly part of who people are, that doesn't necessarily mean that they will be equally a part of their children, if those children are removed from the context in which said language in important. This applies not only to immigrants, but to everyone, with increasing globalisation. Hell, even English is losing a lot of its diversity now that whole generations of English speakers are growing up intensely connected to the rest of the English speaking world. At least, that's my take, in a nutshell.

And I suppose we lost languages like Brythonic without the world losing its moorings, and floating off to the end of the seas, and falling off the edge, so - er - I suppose it's not the end of the world. And yes maybe context really is (fully) everything. There aren't many valley Zulus left, because the socio-ecology (I hope there's a term like that) that sustains that lifestyle is shrinking down to its last surviving pockets. (That reminds me that I once knew a police fingerprint expert whose area of responsibility included places where to get to the scene of the crime he'd first drive a four wheel drive to the point where it couldn't go any further, then mount a horse to cover the remaining kilometers. He said he'd get to places where the children would run away, screaming in terror, because they'd never seen ugly things from the outside world, like white men, ever. I thought he might've been having me on, but I've seen the same thing while riding on the roof of a bus to a place in Tanzania called Sumbawanga. The very little kids fled in terror (and I think the big kids told them all sorts of scary things about the Bus Zombies to make them even more terrified. The big kids seemed amused.) The little ones didn't just run away. They burst out crying. These worlds end - in the Sumbawanga district case, probably before a bigger kid even gets to school - and today, sooner. As they do, all sorts of concepts become redundant to them. Sort of like how Victorian concepts became redundant before the 20th Century was even started.) Hmm ... I think you might still find a few places in Australia where, as long as the bigger kids are mean enough to tease them with it, you could make the little kids run away screaming just by appearing there. There wouldn't be many, but she's a big country, as someone once told me.

A secondary track with additional audio description, like Netflix has, would be great for vision impaired people and also language learners. It would also be an opportunity for the creator to add additional humor to the video in a youtube-y way -- the same way that they do now with quickly appearing text to either make a correction to something in the audio or just as commentary on what's going on onscreen. (I mean humor that doesn't take away from the actual function, like someone describing their own actions accurately but in a self deprecating way) I don't think the need for audio description is widely known and I would guess a blind person probably misses less from the average youtube video than from the average movie. So I'm not holding my breath for this becoming common. But it would be really cool. And if it were done successfully the way I'm imagining it it would actually be a little bit of bonus content for people who need the track. I've already said this, but god yes please having music tracks be optional would be so nice. Not expecting this as a native feature, but maybe someone would make a plugin to play two tracks at once with a little mixer to turn down one of them... we can dream right?

How about translating subtitles to any language on the fly? That is really one of the biggest recent things in learning of the languages. This function is still so new, that the list on the mobile is rather limited.

Your intuition is on the money. The reason people are saying otherwise is because the true potential of this would be underpinned by some paradigm shifts, which always tend to be underestimated by anyone other than the very innovators who explore and define the emerging possibilities. The application Mr Beast is currently employing is a pretty small fraction of the potential here. Creators who think outside the box can find this as an incredible opportunity to make a massive splash.

I think this would be useful for input and comprehension, not exactly learning. It’d be for someone with a certain level of comprehension already that can be refined. The use case I’m thinking of is just watching someone speaking in your target language, then if you didn’t understand a sentence, click 5 seconds back and listen to it in your native language, then continue watching in your target language.

On the other hand, KZfaq recently killed user made subtitles. That is bad for language learning, because lot of creator don't make they own subtitles and really on auto-generated, and those don't work very well, especially if you want to use them together with some browser plug-ins that read subtitles as input. So all in all it is still step down for language learning for me. I don't really think that period where you need to see video in your native language first to understand it is that wide to outweight loss of subtitles on native content

That was quite a while ago but I think they did that because most subtitles ended up being advertising Crypto scams etc. 99% chance that KZfaq introduces near perfect auto subtitles (using Bard or some kind of AI).

the title can show up in the other language even if it doesn't have a different dub, mine have done that for a while,, but I presume that only happens for videos with a sub in that language(or else where would the translation come from),, so still sorta works,, just not guaranteed

I can see how some are thinking this wont change much and I am more in agreement with them, the thing I feel a lot of people are missing though is that if you're following youtubers who themselves ARE multilingual well then the likelyhood of them self recording multiple audio tracks is pretty high. Sure the people that only for example speak english probably wont pay for french or german or japanese dubs unless they're huge channels and it seems worth it but again people that speak multiple languages probably will consider it, especially the ones that went and subtitled for the other language(s) not in the video already, I feel those people you can pretty much count on to embrace this new feature with open arms. tl;dr It wont change youtube as a whole but it'll make a lot of channels you probably already engage in better for language learning.

as a bilingual who only knows Spanish and English, I can really make use of this in the future when I make content. Although I'll still need another channel because sometimes different culture have different memes and I would still need to change it a little bit. In order to truly have 1 channel that fits more than one language, I need to be able to change the content inside the video for other languages as well because I can't put English text on a Spanish video so I'll need another channel anyways. We need to be able to add everything, the Spanish version of the video, the dub, the thumbnail, tittle and descriptions, tags to different language. don't get me wrong, this is a step in the right direction but people will need for another channel if they want to dub their videos because people might edit the video a little bit different in one language compared to the other. So unless they let you change everything(not just the audio, but also the editing from the video), you will still have a need for a different channel in order to have your video in multiple languages. There's a reason why MrBeast has a Spanish channel despite the fact that he can put the Spanish dub on his main channel.

Really looking forward to all those channels using unrevertable MTL dubs, i really hope there is a button to disable it unlike with video descriptions/titles, of which the last one makes looking for target language content already hard enough... (EDIT: this applies only to mobile though as there are no language options in the app and it uses your system language instead )

I deeply hate the unrevertable descriptions and titles auto translations. It really is a pain. Particullarly since I use 3-4 languages daily and switching the language setting several times a day is such a hazzle! Everything Google is so clearly designed for and by monoliguals.

@kattkatt - that's absolute garbage. Yes, Google has its issues, but to say it is so clearly designed for and by monolinguals is like saying "Everything in Canada is clearly by people who can only speak English!" Google has THOUSANDS of bi- and tri-lingual employees. Thousands.

The main use of this feature for me will consist that of being able to watch big, dumb, fun content channels that I was watching anyways in my target language and thus getting more immersion every day. Unfortunately, there are only like 5 channels at best that fit this description. Watching a moistcritical 8 min vid every 4 days in Japanese wont make that big of a difference. Maybe polyglots that make different content, like Metatroin will do this too.

I would so much prefer that youtubers offer subtitles on all their videos !! It would be more efficient to learn their language with whatever content they make. It's still too rare and the automatic subtitles are not always perfect (no punctuation at all and synchronized with the audio only word by word) . If it's supposed to make me watch more KZfaq, sorry but I already do so too much. Do I want to watch the same video several times ? No. Unless I'm extremely serious in my language learning, which I'm not, sadly. Subtitles in different languages (you choose which one) is more useful for me. Do I want to hear an audio track like on tv, not always well done and with a voice that I don't necessarily like ? Once again, no. Personal opinion.

KZfaq Spanish subtitles for South American videos are useless when the speaker talks too fast. There is no magical way to fix this.

I'm wondering if, as someone with another channel on which I teach English, will it autoplay my videos in the native language of the viewer? If so that will pretty much ruin my videos lol. Hopefully youtube quickly learns which channels are teaching languages and ensures they keep the language as it is intended to be.

Oh, no you have to actually add dubbed tracks. It doesn't just happen automatically. I think it might in maybe 2 years but then I'm sure you'll be able to opt out.

We are in extremely interesting times. It's a great time to be learning a new language with more, and better tools than ever before. I have found in the past that youtube's translation feature is pretty hit and miss so I tend to avoid it, however, recent advancements in AI are very promising. Since the French have consistently ignored providing multiple language subtitles on movies, I just want some app that does it well and then I will be happy. As to being able to manipulate voice and music, yeah that would be great. Background music and noise can kill it when you are trying to pick up the language. Bad enunciation and mumbling (looking at you Robert De Niro) could be fixed by inserting my beautiful Scottish lilt.😂

I just want KZfaq to default to my target languages subtitles for every video on mobile. I don't understand why this is so hard. They have them. Why do i have to click them on every time I watch anything

Right now it defaults to Japanese quite odd since while i am trying to learn Japanese i don't have any software in Japanese because i have trouble reading it only video games. my KZfaq ui is usually in small European languages like Albanian or Romanian.

A nice feature i have some thoughts 1 this could actually cause less people to learn languages .because at least in my native language there was not a lot of content and at least on tv you got subtitles.. but on KZfaq you don't even got that KZfaq has subtitles now but they are really bad if they are not made by the uploader themselves. and for people from larger countries like brazil where everything on tv is dubbed. the internet is really the only reason from them to learn English so its up to me to learn more Portuguese if they wont learn English. since the internet is starting to become more multilingual. 2 So far the feature is only for huge mega channels i prefer to watch smaller more mature youtubers. but if you want to get big on KZfaq you have to sell out and make more simple kid friendly content. the biggest youtuber i watch is Linus tech tips. but even he is small compared to mister beast and other trendy zoomer youtubers. and most of my favourite youtubers have under 1m subs. so far only one youtuber that i like to watch used this feature but they used a terrible text to speech voice for Spanish so i just went back to english. i could see in the comments that some Spanish viewers where complaining and i think he stopped using the feature on his new videos. i know mister beast has decent voice actors but smaller youtubers wont be able to afford voice actors. maybe if they are multilingual or have friends that speak other languages they can use it but its not an option for most users. a few years ago i wanted to make some youtube videos. i was doubting if i should do them in Dutch or English. i picked English because i would get more views. but if the feature existed back then i could do both. i am also worried that youtube will mess up and not make it available to everyone and eventually discontinue it .google is very unpredictable and makes a lot of bad decisions smaller companies can't get away with.

@@daysandwords By chance I already saw at a some kind of military channel (what normally is not that kind of stuff what I prefer to watch) which is in English, and had different audio files for different languages. But I had the impression these sounded very artificial. Besides this the translations were more or less correct. Maybe they were translated by chatGPT or something like that.

I think multiple language tracks will be utilized for informational/infotainment type stuff more heavily than by entertainment creators. There's this guy Tom Bilyeu who has a channel with entire interviews dubbed into Spanish - I can't imagine what people get out of watching them instead of just listening, but clearly there's a lot of demand for self-improvement and motivational content in translation.

Yeah but so far they don't have multiple tracks on the SAME video. Lots of channels have multiple language channels, but Mr Beast and Creator Studios (which is essentially KZfaq themselves) are the only ones I've seen with the multiple language tracks.

i like spanish and french creators but it's hard to understand what they say sometimes because they speak fast, mumbled and/or slang. them having english tracks would make it so much more eaiser to watch and enjoy, maybe even expand themselves

One of the main issue I see with this is that should some unpleasant individual(s) decide to copyright your sole channel for idiotic reasons, you’ve got little response for it unless you’re a big streamer like @Mr Beast someone to fight it. I do stand corrected though from someone with greater knowledge than myself 😊👍🏾

Well a DOZEN yes, but no actually 1 dub costs me a lot less than just making the video in the first place. e.g. my 1000 words in a day video cost about $5000 of time. When I get this feature, I could add a dub for about $200 and double the potential audience, so...

AI is moving fast but my experience with auto translations are that they are still a long way of. There isn't really a one to one pattern recognition going on in translation and that means it is hard for AI to get. Individual discretion which is super important to get an actual good translation and not just the gist of what is going on is hard even for people trained to do it. If we want to dumb down our language, yeah AI is perfect, but is that what we want?

@kattkatt - you may actually be misunderstanding what AI is. There doesn't NEED to be a 1:1 translation for AI to be able to translate equal to a very good translator. Because AI can make DECISIONS based on the context. Genuine translators of novels are already using AI to speed up their processes. It'll be less than 10 years before human translations are sort of just for fun (and 6 of those years will just be people's unwillingness to accept that it's over).

I much rather prefer to watch videos in the language I'm trying to learn, with subtitles in either English or Portuguese (my native tongue), and then switch to subtitles in the language I'm trying to learn, and finally try it with no subtitles. I hate dubs!!!

"Dubs" isn't really an accurate way to describe KZfaq videos though. Most often, the words being spoken aren't actually being done so ON CAMERA. Many KZfaq videos could be "dubbed" without anyone even knowing.

Yea it needs to come to smaller youtubers. the bigger youtubers are really only for kids. adults have more varied tastes so we don't all watch the same stuff. like i watch this channel but a lot of my friends don't. they watch some random sports youtuber that i think is un interesting.

Glad to know but I don't honestly why you're hyping it up as valuable, at all. If there are subtitles in a language I know really well (e.g. my native English) it would be a complete and utter waste of my time to listen to the audio in English to figure out what they're saying in the language I'm studying. Reading subs is 10x faster & you only need to skim for translations of words you didn't know in your L2. Literally, the 1-5% of people this might be useful for are those driving or commuting on a subway where you can't stare at a screen - they could convert to mp3 audio and alternate between original language and English so they could listen on repeat until they "got" everything. I would neve rwant to have to suffer through anything dubbed in English except if there aren't subtitles in English, cause reading is just so efficient - you can do them at the same time - whereas with audio you can only really listen to one track at a time.

Luisito also speaks perfect English and had a channel targeted at Americans, but it never gained much traction so he gave it up. He’s one of the best KZfaqrs, in the hispanosphere or otherwise.

Are you a language learner? Thousands of language learners would ABSOLUTELY watch Mr Beast in a different language just to get more input in that language. I am CONSTANTLY being hit with comments about "I wish there was.... in my target language." To me this is like saying "LOL who wants their car to go faster?" Well yeah, for 60-80% of people, their car is fast enough. For the others? It's basically all they think about. Language Learners are constantly wanting different kinds of material in their target language. CONSTANTLY.

i think KZfaq "changed language learning forever" like a couple months ago when they removed the cc icon next to a channel's videos. and channels who offered material in your target language AND made subtitles consistently are now harder/ a burden to detect. imagine how much that HURT language learning in comparison with this bs ur clickbaiting about.

Dubbed? - Like French or American movies dubbed into German? That's horrible, untasty, you can't stand it- if you know how an actor's or actress' real voice sounds. to then hear them dubbed - disgusting. There are also actors and actresses with wonderful German voices - and then hear them in awful dubbed voices... well, I for one am too snobbish for that. But this is perhaps not what is meant in this decade?

Yea dubbing is very bad .but i have to learn more languages so if i can watch my favourite English speaking youtubers in another language it can improve my learning and that is all that matters however sometimes the dubbing can really ruin a video. (looking at you polish movie pirates) and these youtubers have a low budget so i don't have much hope. i already saw some youtubers using text to speech for their dubs lmao.

Dubbed is obviously not as good but when you're learning languages we're using a completely different metric for "good". It's like comparing a racing car and an off-roader.
