I gotta say, I love Optifine, but it doesn’t work with every modpack. It replaces some of Minecraft’s code that other mods, like the Twilight Forest, need.

I'd argue that the best mod is fabric / forge API, since many mods require it, and it is very convenient for mod makers. this mod not only serves as a middle ground for all the genres, since almost all require it, but also doesn't fit in any of them, making it truly in the middle

essential lets you zoom and play with friends for free on java ( it works like bedrock). also you can change your skin whenever you go to your menu or are are in the main menu. also supplementary and supplementary squared are both good mods adding some items that can be useful or good decor.

The best mod for me is the Essential mod Basically, instead of having to host a server, you can just add friends ane invite them to your SINGLEPLAYER WORLD. Also there are cosmetics :3

Lotr mod legacy, factions, totally overhauled enchanting and weapons, new crafting, herbalism, a new dimension, bosses, mini bosses, army building, hundreds of new blocks, brewing, totem poles, structures, a bunch of races, giant spiders, brewing, smoking, invasions, more explosives, animals, plates and cups, more shops, taverns, cities, new ores, several new currencies, a hell mini dimension, dungeons, mini bosses, a huge map (which can be expanded with Addons) set structures and locations as well as random structures, dragons(wip), new meats and foods, magic, new woods and so much more. It is all very very smooth and fun. For example there are several different kinds of dwarves and elves and stuff, goblins, orcs, trolls, lion, boar(rideable), rhino(rideable), flamingoes and giant spiders. It is just the best, it also runs pretty well and works with a ton of mods.

It’s Aether plain and simple, still to this day a blast and we wouldn’t have all these other crazy mods without it. I mean it has the soundtrack, gameplay, mobs, you name it the aether has it.

Optifine has too many problems with compatibility in the recent versions. I just switched to Rubidium and Oculus today and so far it's solved all my Optifine-Incompatibility problems.

Sodium works much better on more recent versions and if you have a nvidia graphics card, you can use nvidium to bosst performance by a lot.

OptiFine is closed source. It is known to have serious conflicts with other mods. Minecraft provides enough settings to optimize your experience on any potato pc. The zoom and shaders are nice though
