ys8 is god tier adventure mainly just exploration. but ys 9 and x is well let's not put our expectation too high. don't get the wrong Idea. I love ys 8, 9 and x too. pretty much ys series games are the only series game that I ever play from 1 to 10 include origin exclude 5 because it's not available in modern console or pc. I never actually playing any other series game like that. not even legend of heroes series. I haven't play Sky SC to complete the full completion. And sky the 3rd I played it but under japanese text on vita and I don't think I want to count 3rd as I had played it despite I beat it. because I don't understand japanese. Square Enix have their final fantasy series. My bro really love that series he played all of them from 1 to 16. but me I pretty much don't play any of them.

Ys 8 is fantastic overall. There is one thing that lets it down right at the end (I'll talk about that further down in the comment because spoilers), but, aside from that one thing, it really is one of those games where each piece complements each other and makes the whole game far more than the sum of its parts. My only criticism is this: what were they thinking with that ending revealing that the whole Ys universe is some never-before-seen character's dream and that the Lacrimosa: the unnatural extinction of sapient species, is necessary to keep her from waking up? It comes out of nowhere, and it goes against the game's theme of working together to overcome seemingly-inevitable doom.

@@stutania so what? that's not a full series overview cause there are 8 other games they could still show in the video just because XSEED and other Western publishers have the rights to them Falcom are the developers, they decide what to do with the series overseas, they basically have the final say in all this

@@martinde-serres8724 No, NISA decides what they want to put in their advertisements. They ain't showcasing XSEED games. I agree it's not really an "overview" with 75% of the games missing, but what can you do?

It's enlightening to find what fans prefer. I prefer 1v1 direct combat like napishtim and oath in felghana (snes ys 3 has bad music and cheap enemies who don't flinch but turbografx has voice acting and better music). I don't like bump much and loathe party combat given switching for weaknesses (ys 7 dungeon revisits and party grinding was the beginning of the end to me) and having to put up with their worse dialogue like shades dandruff and the annoying woman in ys 8 or that bartender guy that hits on you in ys 9 and the repetitive prisons. People will swear they're masterpieces of course and will double dip.

Ys is much older than Trails, so it's the other way around Without Ys, we wouldn't have gotten Legend of Heroes, which in turn we wouldn't have gotten the Trails series

A lot of us call those the Napishtim Engine games. I assume you mean Ark of Napishtim, Oath in Felghana, and Origin

@@sharpester7277 Yeah, but from Seven and on it's a different engine. Napishtim, Felghana and Origins have a different play-style more simplistic than the modern ones which are more lengthy and complex.

I started to play Ys thanks to Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana. I haven't become a fan of the series as a whole, as there are some Ys games that I know I'm not interested in (Ys 9 being an example), but since 8, I've also played Ys Origin and I've been meaning to try the first two Ys games, and I will play Ys 10 when it releases.

Wasn't there an other Ys game on ps4? Felghana or... No, it was Celceta. Where's that?

Ys I & II Chronicles are perfect as is, modern remake would probably demand a rewrite to make it financially viable. Only past Ys title that definitely needs a retcon is 5, but it's probably better if they focus their time on giving us games based on the remaining 91 travelogues.

@@BLAZER_VA, Naturally they're dated, they are from the pioneering era of video game development sitting right in between The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. Their dated-ness is a big part of their identity and charm. From a development perspective they lack the content to work as a modern 3D game. It's made even more difficult by how they are tied to Origins. Felghana and Celceta worked as retcons because they're stand-alone. As for people getting into them, there's no guarantee a 3D remake would change that. Bottom line is remaking old games takes time that could be spent on expanding the series. And constantly rehashing games in the series goes against the genius 100 travelogue premise. Personally I'd rather see them get to a game where a grizzled Adol is in his 40-50's. Miyazaki, Hashimoto, & Koshiro created something exceptional, that legacy does not need to be re-invented, there will always be an audience who respects what they pioneered.

I'm sorry buddy, but don't buy an Xbox if you want consistent JRPG releases on your platform. Xbox players rarely buy these games when they end up on their system, so it's never worth the time and money investment to port them over.

@@ravus9935 In my country, it's easier to have an Xbox instead of a Playstation, because of its price. Also, Xbox has good games. It's true that JRPG's on Xbox have its ups and downs, but the situation is getting better. A lot of RPG's that would be very hard to be released on Xbox years ago are getting new games and ports, like the Mana series, Final Fantasy XIV, Fantasian, Grandia, Hyperdimension and others. I hope that the same happens with Ys and Trails in the future.

The latter is a huge corporation that has no trouble affording Xbox ports when they want to, but Falcom can barely afford to keep making games in the first place. They're not much bigger than an indie developer, and generally small Japanese companies aren't going to find it worthwhile to port their games to a console that is a laughing stock in Japan. Xbox might have good games, but asking for niche Japanese devs and struggling publishers to take the plunge on a (from their perspective) dead console that never sells more than a couple thousand copies per JRPG release is insane. You'll be better off pirating these games on PC or finding a cheap/secondhand Switch Lite to play on. NIS America is the company that advertised their games coming to "all platforms" and proceeded to show Switch, Playstation, and PC. Xbox might as well be a joke to them.
