Farpoint Farms Restorations and Repairs

I picked one of these up last summer for use in the expansion I built onto the garage. These things are labor intensive to assemble, and I a lot of folks have major issues building them, or complain that they wobble really bad.
Well, watch the video and pause it as needed to see how to assemble it the right way. I love it, it's really well made, and this one is about to be moved up to the new studio so You'll be seeing it a lot.

I have been looking for a new work from home desk that is tall enough that I can stand at it or use a high stool type chair and can hold two monitors.....looks like winner, winner chicken dinner! Makes me feel good that as a non-mechanic my methodology to building things is the same. Excellent video, as usual. So glad the build brought back memories of your Dad and is making you smile. We never stop missing them but the memories bring joy instead of pain as we go along. You and Jenn stay safe and well.

@@meagenb4968 Sorry for your and OP's loss. Folks, if you are considering a work from home setup then IMO a setup which works for me pretty well is a height adjustable frame bought from Amazon + desk-top bought from IKEA, mounted desk-top on the frame and viola! a height adjustable table for WFH for pretty cheap price!

I have 2 of these and they are sturdy once everything is on and tightened up. The one the drawer doesn't work near as well as the other. It's usable the way it is. I tried adjusting it but it is still not as smooth as the other one. I think for the price they are geeat. I put vinyl flooring on the work tops on mine. They are at least 4 years old and still going strong.

It took 30 minutes from start to finish at time lapse, which was about 4 x 1. That means it took about 2 hours to complete this project. Not bad. All the parts, including the nuts, bolts, and assorted stuff, are numbered, so it's easy-peasy to find what you're looking for. There was a mistake not mentioned at 25mins...outlet cord wasn't put to the back of the unit. Instead, it was stuck out to the side between two side braces. Also, it should have been noted that the braces all along the unit should be placed with the angled flat side up. They're what the table and under table rests on and bolted to. An electric screw driver would make this job easier and faster. Setting all the parts out from the box makes the job easier, too, putting all the parts in numbered order. I put the nuts and bolts in separate non-skit bowls, up off the floor so as not to be kicked over or stepped on. Good investment if you get the right price. I think I bought mine through Walmart for $60 last year.

I literally just bought this for my 3D printer setup it's a super stable table now that I put it together, but I'm having issues with the top shelf not aligning, like the very top shelf where the light is. The instructions are highly unclear on what bolts go where it says it would note it but it clearly didn't, I know some of them like the C's and B's for the pegboard.... So a lot of the time was actually disassembling what I've already assembled to make it right, but the front plate that goes on the top shelf I have it on for the corners overlap the sides on the outside but it doesn't fit like that so I guess those corners or going inside even though that's a structurally unstable build technique. It's clearly more stable the way I placed it though it's not designed that way. The instructions and the picture on the box isn't high definition of enough for me to tell. It's just how I placed it it ensured the shelf was square, if I bring those corners on the inside then it's not guaranteed to be squared but it'll move those edges out a few mm on each side which might give me the clearance.... Like I said they could do better instructions other than that great and now that I know how to build it it's cheap enough where I can buy a few more and thrown together in about 25% of the first ones time, I have a photographic memory so I don't even need the instruction now
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Жыл бұрын
I agree that the instructions could use some help. I looked at some photos on the web before I started building mine and notice a few that were clearly assembled wrong. I guess it is what it is. In the end, I'm very pleased with mine.

@@ryandavis4689 they changed colors from blue to black throughout the years but the new one is a nice black, upgraded hardware i.e serrated flange nuts, full size l.e.d, drawer slides etc.. Definitely a little bit sturdier but I guess if you get one of the old ones on clearance you can use the extra money to buy your own lock nuts and bolts etc.. or just use locktite and give everything a tightening from time to time. I used all nylock fasteners on the surface that has my grinder on it. Great table no matter which model, all depends on who puts it together.

Why would you waste your time on a piece of junk workbench like that! I would be buying a good steel workbench.
@wfpfradio
@wfpfradio Жыл бұрын
Well, a few reasons. First, this is not "Junk" by any means. Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Northern Tools, and many other companies offer the exact same model and have for years. Do you think they would still be selling them if they were "Junk"? Second it is made to fit perfectly in modern smaller garages and is something that a person with no building experience can put together without having to make a work bench from scratch, Lastly and I think for you this one may have slipped your mind, A steel workbench of this size would cost about 5 times what this model does. Other than a professional with money to burn would waste that much on something when this is out there and works nearly as well.
