I get asked about Fukuoka a lot, so I decided to talk a bit about it... I kind of lost track of where I was going near the end though. Sorry about that. It's been kind of hard to focus on making videos lately, I wasn't going to post anything, but I think that posting SOMETHING will help me get out of this slump, and I can work hard on improving quality of my videos next time.. or something... Iduuuunnoooo.
How are you today? :)

Oh! It made me so happy to see this video! When I went to Japan for an exchange program, I went to Fukuoka (I lived in a town called Nakagawa within the prefecture). Very good post, it is nice to hear someone else voice this about Japan. Just like Canada and the US there are many different cities and not one of them is the end and the beginning of the place. Few people would ever think to say "New York City is the best place for you to live in the US" or instantly think of NYC when you mention the US, but so many people when thinking of Japan think only of Tokyo. Tokyo is just one small part of a very diverse nation, and every town has its own character~

I've only had the opportunity to Japan once while on a short break from teaching in Korea. Took a ferry from Busan and stayed in Fukuoka for 5 days. I'll never forget the city. Probably due to the fact that I spent the first night roaming the streets on foot without a single yen in my pocket. Don't ask, why it happened! From the ferry harbor, to Tenjin to the redlight in Nakasu to Canal City in Hakata...got to see a lot that way. Ah, memories... I love that city!

Great video! I hope to visit that area of Japan, especially Nagasaki. Last time I went in 2012 (in addition to Tokyo, Kyoto & Nara) we went to Kochi on Shikoku Island. It was awesome. Very laid-back place compared to Tokyo. Even in the major tourist centres its fun getting off the beaten path.

Great Video! Growing up in Colorado where their main industry is tourism I also tend to go to places where the majority of people don't normally go. I find more interesting people and places off of the main pathway. In my view living in Japan where you are is better...less crowded, in many cases some things are less expensive, with fewer "Gotcha" moments commonly found in larger cities.

Thanks for making this video. I am just starting to look at places to visit in Japan that are not always the obvious destination for visitors. Just as it is anywhere else in the world, lifetimes can be spent in amazing corners away the obvious destinations. Local food from small vendors / restaurants, access to some cultural resources, places of visual interest for hobbyist level photography and reasonable room rates are key for me.

Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka are so big & so crowded! During my visits to Japan, I enjoyed my stay at a tiny village the most - Yamakoshi village, Nagaoka, Niigata prefecture. I spent all my life living in a tiny city (about 1 square mile) in the middle east. Regardless, I'll have to adapt to living in Tokyo soon enough, since I'm supposed to start my postgraduate studies at Tokyo University in October!
