Couple of things you might find interesting. 1) The .44 magnum is an N frame, not a K frame, and Elmer Keith didn't stop with Smith and wesson, he got Ruger to create the Ruger Redhawk because even the Smith and wessons couldn't handle what he was doing with the cartridge in its later years, he blew up several firearms. 2) 10mm and it's effectiveness against bears is massively overstated, a study was done showing that almosy literally any handgun was near 100% successful at stopping a bear attack. 3) the browning hi power is single action, but there were double action variations. 4) the browning hi power in game is wonderfully detailed but has one huge issue, when the slide locks back on an empty magazine the slide release doesn't move, your character instead pushes the safety down which releases the slide. 5) Sight Radius is important because the longer your sight radius, the less the front sight wobbling will effect your groups. It will also give you a finer aiming point due to the front sight appearing smaller. 6) the colt revolver is a somewhat interesting gun in that you must remove it from your dominant hand to reload it. Many people theorized that Samuel Colt was left handed but this doesn't line up, since through bored cylinders were not part of Sam Colts original design. My theory and the theory of many others is that you swap it into the left hand because that allows you to use your dominant hand to control the loose cartridges while the left hand can still maintain hold of your horses reins. Control of your very precious cartridges while on an unstable mount would be very important. 7) the ARs in game are all very awkwardly built with side charging receivers that would not work in real life, because modeling a correct T shape charging handle would be difficult on the Gameboy engine. 8) the Battle Rifle in game has a rather insanely large dispersion, which is quite strange considering the real gun, even in fairly mediocre condition, is quite accurate. 9) the battle rifle in game is a shortened tanker style garand in .308, which is a real thing. 10) the marlin 336 or brush gun was at one point the strongest lever action in the world. 11) marbles style sights were and still are a very popular modification for lever guns and single shots to this day. 12) John browning stopped working with winchester because they often cut corners on his designs in his opinion and there was some bad blood between them. 13) John Browning allegedly did not like the 1911, and passed away before finishing the Browning Hi Power, which was finished by Deudonne Saive, and it is arguable how much John browning actually did for that design. 14) browning often built his guns to be disassembled and reassembled with just a round. For example a detail strip of a 1911 can be done with a .30-06 cartridge, with the field strip being able to be done with a .45 or just your bare hands. 15) the Fatman is an amalgamation of the British PIAT, an actual fielded anti tank weapon, that used a huge spring to launch a shaped charge,, and the Davey Crockett, which you coveted well enough. 16) the hunting rifle in game is partially based off of the Winchester model 70, which is considered to be one of the nicest bolt actions out there. 17) the winchester lever action shotgun never performed well because it had issues with malfunctions, and they never really got updated for smokeless powder. Other companies have cloned them and made them safe for smokeless. 18) the Marksmans Carbine has a fictional Acog based optic that would be set far too high for a cheekweld, far too far forward for good eye relief, and the rail system is an ARMS SIR style rail that is kinda surprising to see in a game. 19) there were actually a few 5.56 miniguns and they are somewhat man portable. 20) the thing on your characters back appears to be a battery, miniguns are electrically driven. 21) the sawed off shotgun in game is actually apparently post great war. 22) the NCR service rifle is based on a Colt C7, with an A1 rear and front sight but with some A2 features like the colt Canada rifles. 23) the service rifle I believe is post war production, made by the gun runners possibly out of leftover parts from pre war. The only known example of a pre war use of that style of rifle is the survivalist, which is a service rifle with a .50 beowulf upper. 24) the ruger Standard series was created in a garage, and was designed by Bill ruger who was apparently trying to build guns like nambus 25) the .22 sub machine gun was adopted by several police departments, for busting windshields, and... prison guards. They're exceptionally rare and hilarious fun to shoot. 24) the sniper rifle does not appear to have a magazine wide enough or tall enough to hold .308 25) the varmint rifle appears to be based off of the Marlin Buckaroo. With parts of some savage guns welded on. 26) the grease gun has an incredibly slow fire rate. Many GIs preferred it to the Thompson as it weighed half as much, was a bit more controllable, and didn't have issues with wood stocks swelling. However one of the major downfalls is that the grease gun was double stack single feed, which negatively impacted the reliability and the mags were exceptionally hard to load, bad enough they incorporated a speed loader into the stocks if I recall correctly. Hope you enjoyed some of my autistic encyclopedia knowledge of stuff that barely matters

I mean... everything is relative. He knows a lot maybe compared with the other guy, but not a lot in the grand scheme of things, .50 caliber was a handgun round long before .44 magnum was ever conceived, for example. As to his explaining double/single action, not mentioning that it's a descriptor of what the trigger pull achieves kinda makes that convo last. It's kinda akin to watching semi unscripted dumb and dumber.

As funny as it would be, Borderlands guns ain't exactly rooted in reality - the closest you'd find is Dahl and Jakobs on that front. Maybe BL1's S&S too. I mean, in the post-BL2 gunplay, there's three companies that just RUN off of insanity - Maliwan with their effectively battery-powered firearms that literally shoot fire (alongside electricity, corrosive acid, fantasy radioactive by-product (Slag), literal radioactive by-product, and ice depending on the game), Torgue with their gyrojet technology (which, funnily enough, actually exists but fell out of use), and Tediore with their "throw your gun as a grenade then Digistruct a new one in your hands" gimmick that runs on in-universe logic. That's not even getting into the non-kinetic stuff like BL1's Eridian Weapons, BL2's E-Techs, TPS's lasers, and BL3's Alien Barrel, or any of the specialty weapons (read: any gun with red text) with even wackier effects.

In my day-to-day I often think back of Mike's receptive & calming nature for Zach & his eternal exasperation with incorrect gun designs. Gunsmith here: sight radius has to do with the math used to calculate adjusting them, example M=(R*E)/D Where M is rear sight movement R is sight radius (distance between sights) E is change of point of impact D is between front sight and target and scopes are adjusted in either MOA or mils, minutes of angle, 1/60th of a degree, common in civilian scopes mils (milliradians) are decimal version commonly used in the military

How do you use the formula? D is easy. ex Target is 10m in front of front sight. R is rear to front sight distance. I'm not sure about E though but it in some way makes you know how much to change M?

@thescottsman1996
@thescottsman1996 3 жыл бұрын
@@ankergutten3428 historical president and I think the math started as proportional arcs, or circle segments. Think of the one of the sights as the center of a circle, the other the edge of a circle. The target is another, much larger circle. If you move the point on the edge of the little circle a little bit, it moves the point on the big circle even more

@falcon_by_the_lake Actually, as far as I know, sight Radius is called 'Radius' because it's talking about the length between front and rear sight because a 'radius' is just a line. 'Radius' isn't specific to circles. A 'Radius' could've been a stick. It's old, weird language things. That's why it's a sight 'radius'. Because it's a line.

"You say that but the Garand had two optics, there was the officially adopted bespoke scope and it was offset so that the enbloc clip could still be inserted and ejected and the benefit of this was that you could still use the iron sights on the rifle itself. There was another prototype one that would've been mounted just behind the bolt and it had this really weird, curved line with a ranging increment. The Springfield's scope is probably the *worst* scope I've seen on any firearm because it's so long and the ocular lens has such a limited viewing angle." I dunno why but with my own knowledge, I like making up transcripts of what Zach might say in these instances.

While I imagine the idea is that it holds the ammo (since the model is the 5mm ammo crate), I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was just to look cool, and they didn't think about its purpose. It's one of the weapons carried over from Fallout 3 (meaning it wasn't made by Obsidian), and I kinda get the impression that Bethesda doesn't know guns very well; looking at some of the decisions made in Fallout 3 and 4.

I would have just said "what kind of action is based on what the trigger itself affects when pulled. The hammer does one thing for a single, which is why you have to cock the hammer for the cowboy. Double cocks the hammer and shoots when you pull the trigger. This 9mm is single because the trigger only fires the bullet, the slide just pushs the hammer back to recock."

The miniguns reload animation is the battery that powers it. The gauss rifle does the same thing, so both of them (technically) canonically have infinite ammo and only need new batteries to reload. The reason for this is, presumably, bethesda thought it looked cool and Obsidian didn't have time to make whole new models and animations

Radius refers to the distance from the mid point so when referring to it in the context of sights the front sight serves as the “mid point”. It also implies that the “diameter” of the gun is the rear sight and your target form the two edges of a circle lined up go through the “mid point”.

Actually Zach, the story with the 1892 with Browning was that Benedict told Browning if he could build him a prototype within three months, he would give him not only raise, but royalty for each rifle sold. Browning counter offered by saying if he could build the rifle + ship it to him within a month, he wanted triple the amount. If he was one day late of that agreement, he offered Benedict the rifle free of charge. Benedict took the offer and believed that Browning was probably stepping a bit too far from his comfort chair, but 29 days later, Benedict was given on his desk the prototype 1892 rifle with a note from Browning stating that it does indeed load, chamber, and fire. Browning won his wager with by just one day.

Ok, just a small clarification Browning redesigned the action to take the larger cartridges. Most of the credit for Winchester Lever-Guns belongs to Henry, who made the original and Nelson King and designers lost to time who made the Model 1866. By the way, I strongly recommend the series by Forgotten Weapons on the History and development of Winchester Lever-Guns.
