Hello Zach. Thank you for you insight in all these videos. I used the "Zach Highley Method" (along with some insight from Dr. Kevin Jubbal) and did super well in classes (better than I did in undergrad lol). The Anking is surreal and a necessity for med school Anki users (same for Umich and Clark for Anatomy).

Hey Zach, congrats on 10k! I just subscribed and binged all your videos haha. You're amazing! I have a question: I'm a British first year medical student. I'm not sure if AnKing is relevant to my syllabus as we don't have Step 1/2 etc here. Is it worth making your own flashcards on Anki? If so, are there any time saving tips?

Do you move cards from Anking to class specific blocks? Like if you are studying cardio, do you create a cardio deck and move the cards you un suspend into that deck? Or do you keep them all in one deck?

Love your videos! How realistic is it time-wise to integrate watching B&B, Pathoma, as well as Sketchy into your studying in addition to a full course load? Would you recommend sticking to one over another?
@ZachHighley
@ZachHighley 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vermeer, I would recommend integrating them in slowly, for me halfway through the first year I was using all of them. The key thing is that you *correlate the third-party resource to what you are learning in class.* That way, whatever you study from the third party resource applies to your course load, and you don't need to spend as much time reviewing your course materials. In regards to what resources to use for what, B&B has everything, Pathoma has pathology, and Sketchy I would only use for Micro and Pharm (ignore pathology). So for pathology things I only use pathoma, for general physiology/other I find it on B&B, and for Micro/pharm I use sketchy. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi Zach, thanks for the awesome video. Question for you: do you study all of your cards directly from the Anking deck? Or do you create new decks with the tagged cards that you wish to study? I'm trying to find a way to organize the material and it seems hard to study straight from the huge Anking deck.

Thanks for the video! After you finish a lecture/topic do you re-suspend the cards? Or do you keep them unsuspended so that you see them every so often?
@ZachHighley
@ZachHighley 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Danny, so if I am unsuspending the cards from the AnKing deck I *do not* re-suspend the cards. I keep them unsuspended because I want to see those cards, and retain that material, over time. Because, eventually, I will be taking step 1 where I need to know all of that information. If I am studying school-specific content (anatomy, pre-made decks just for my school) I will re-suspend those cards after I take the exam as they are mostly not relevant for step 1.

Practice Questions are in form of case questions with lots of info and multiple choice answers. You said when you get such a question wrong, then only create a new anki card. What is an easy way to make a flashcard out of such a practice question out of a book?

Hello, Zach. I'm a brazilian 1st year medical student and I'm loving your channel. The effort that you put in these videos is really astonishing. You really sold me the idea of using anki to study, I've never heard of it before. I'm trying my best to get used to it, but I'm not a fluent english speaker, and I don't even dream of getting access to external sources like amboss, sketchy or pathoma (due to money and language related problemens). Even with these difficulties, do you think that I can still make a good use of anki?
@guimiranda
@guimiranda 3 жыл бұрын

@aliciad.2938
@aliciad.2938 3 жыл бұрын
This is really helpful but I still have another question. So the big idea with anki is "NEVER SKIP A DAY" lol and do your reviews everyday so here's where I am missing some info. What material is it you're doing everyday? After you unsuspend cards do you just keep them unsuspended indefinitely and your daily cards are pulled from that material (wouldn't you have to keep increasing how many cards your review everyday this way?)? How do you balance that with the new cards you add as you cover new topics? Like what exactly are these review cards and if you keep unsuspending cards every day, how do you make sure anki shows you enough of the material for upcoming quizzes or tests as opposed to showing you material randomly and maybe you not have seen the relevant cards for upcoming tests often enough? Do you change the interval anki will show you cards to make sure it doesn't pick say 15 days from now when you have a test maybe 10 days from now?

how often do you do your reviews of cards from past exams with the info you want to retain for step 1?
@ZachHighley
@ZachHighley 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Shannon, the answer is every day!! Anki's algorithm tests you at increasing intervals so you remember that information for a long time. This doesn't mean seeing each card every day. For example cards I saw in my first year of medical school I now only see once every 3-8 months. Let me know if you have any more questions.

@ZachHighley
@ZachHighley 3 жыл бұрын
So the only steps setting is for new cards and I have found “3 15” (3 minutes then 15 minutes) to work best for me. As for review cards that timing is built into the Anki algorithm depending on your performance/settings. I made a video where I have all of my settings and what they mean if you want to check it out!: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nciZbJOSxpPMY30.html

Hi! I don’t understand the concept of the “#” for example all the flashcards #B&B are made from the B&B lecture right ? I was excepting to find information from the B&B lectures in the extra box but not all the flashcards have extra information from B&B despite they are B&B flashcards. Sorry for my English I hope you understand my question! Thx again for the great content you’re offering
@ZachHighley
@ZachHighley 3 жыл бұрын
Hey I understand the confusion - your english is great! So the entire AnKing deck is mostly composed of Zanki cards. Zanki is this guy that made the original step 1 deck that the AnKing deck is based off of. Zanki created the cards *based off of first aid* and a few other things. What the AnKing deck is, and those "#", are other people who associated Zanki's cards to the various third party resources (such as B&B, pathoma, osmosis, etc.). So all the actual cards are based off mostly first aid, while the tags are relating these "first aid cards" to third party resources. Does that help?

What if my school doesn't lecture on the same details that are covered in pathoma/sketchy? This is especially important in biochemistry because I feel like a lot of schools have different expectations of the detail which you're required to know for biochemical pathways. I'm scared I'll end up studying these decks and not do well on my exams. At the end of the day, It seems like learning everything in your professor's slides is king, and the safest way to do well on your exams.

Confused about the anatomy reviews. Do you use those anatomy decks just for your medical school exams/practicals? But then you suspend the cards after the exam because you don't have to review them for step? Or do you constantly keep reviewing 100 concepts, because its short. Thank you!!
