Good quality kettlebells are made according to one of two general design styles - competition kettlebells (so named because they are used in traditional Russian kettlebell sport) and cast iron kettlebells (so named because, well, that’s what they’re made of).
There’s plenty of debate on the Internet about which style of kettlebell is best. Like most either/or discussions, it all boils down to common sense plus some personal preference.

Good video guys, good most definitely! One factor i think you forgot or don't consider important: when doing double work you need more space between legs when using competition style bells plus they do bang against each other even in the hands of nine time worlds champion Denis Vasiliev. I don't do curls except some times when goblet squatting, it's just money combo, doesn't work well with the competition style bells. I own both style bells and depends on which day you ask me i might give you different answer on my preference. Thanks, keep making them videos❤️

Guys, let me simplify it for you! Competition bells are for competition in the kettlebell sport. Cast iron are for strictly exercising for strength and endurance at home or at a gym. Also, if you are a short person, and not competing, cast iron is best! That’s it!

I use my Comp bells for TGUs and 1H snatches- but cast iron for double work.

I have used both. Currently using stainless steel but I will definitely switch back to a cast iron. I finally found one that has competition dimensions. I can do my routines on cast iron without using chalk. I have to use chalk on the stainless steel for better grip and to prevent tearing my palm.

I chatted with RKC dragon door (pavels original company before strong first) They told me that the smaller bells are for children and women generally speaking. Once the get up above a certain weight, then the handle diameter stays the same. But they are also designed for a specific style of training, or hard style. Both bells are made for specific moves. The weight distribution on both styles is different too, again one being made for strength and conditioning rather than endurance and sport. Cast iron is favored in military and martial arts because the type of movements are geared towards fighting, explosive movements. Elieko makes their cast iron great for two handed swings, Even for people with big hands. Same with Vulcan. That's what I know.

You can do anything with either bell. The only issue someone might have with a competition bell is cramped hands during a 2 handed swing. If you’re a big guy. Competition bells are better for everything else. The idea that one is for strength and conditioning and the other is for sport is ridiculous. At some point your grip is going to fail, and that point is going to be way before your posterior chain, quads, and back fail. Hardstyle bells are much worse in that way. If you want to work grip there are ways to do it other than with kettlebells. If you’re trying to improve clean and jerk, snatch, etc., don’t use a bell with a massive handle diameter. Hardstyle bells also force you to alter your form for every weight, as the bells are different sizes. That’s not a good idea. No Olympic lifter practices cleans or snatches with a different size bar every day. They perfect a specific technique with a standardized bar. End of the day if you just want a good workout it’s irrelevant. But a comp bells is better in almost every way other than maybe 2 handed swings.

@@bobdole7292 Agree whole heartedly. You COULD argue some people may prefer cast iron for goblet squats but yeah that and two handed swings are just about it. I have both and only break out the cast iron for 2 handed swings and as a portable anchor for my battle rope.

@@ffraine I forgot goblets I like hiking it up and holding it between my hands like you’d hold a basketball But I know what you’re saying I’ve thought that exact thing. Hardstyle is way easier for goblets if you’re holding it by the horns like many people prefer

What a crock of shit marketing ploy. The competition style bell is the original dimension. Go look at any Russian military kettlebell video and see which one they use. ANYONE who takes kettlebells seriously prefers competition style.

Thank you Guys for that footage - very informative one. May I ask if you both train pronations, supinations and wrist risers on floor level with kettlebells ? I am pretty keen on that :) Respect from Poland !

Hey guys great video, I've had cast iron and what I love about them is how grippy they are and how they can keep chalk on the handle and in considering switching to comp KB but idk how the sleek metal handle is going to be...can you use chalk with it? How does it feel what you do use chalk and does the handle keep chalk behind to always give you a bit of extra grip? Thanks

The handles can potentially rust but nothing a couple pieces of sandpaper can’t take care of plus learning proper chalking techniques.

I've never used more than a bit of liquid chalk with a comp bell, but some GS folks like a full coating - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sK6nddOkmq6qqo0.html

is it good to do 2 handed swings with a comp. bell? my pinky finger barely fits in it. but even so i can swing it. is it better to get a cast iron?

Cast iron usually has more texture through the applied coating. That, plus the comp handles can feel *too* narrow for some
