Loving that your videos are proving how the positive reward based training is at least as succesful if not more so than the older 'traditional' styles. Sure people will moan inertia should be better behaved by now, but it appears she's at the point you want tlher to be at. She isn't disobedient but simple acting like a young collie pup with oodles of energy and enough curiosity to put scientists to shame. Allowing that freedom of energy and adventure is healthier for the animal than demanding complete obedience at such an early age. Also, thankyou so so much for showing the fails and struggles. So many new dog owners are disheartened when they can't replicate the perfect obediance other professional trainers KZfaq videos.

It appears that so much of Inertia's behavior is now becoming second nature! She does so many great things automatically i.e. giving you great eye contact, healing, sitting and performing tricks instantly when asked! Of course there will always be room for tweaking on some skills but that's what training seems to be all about!! Inertial needs to take a bow and get a high value treat (maybe a small piece of bacon :) for her tremendous progress!

That's all useless if you cant take your dog on a walk nicely. She be pulling him every where they go. Even before they go into the store she is pulling. He even said if your dog wont listen to you In your house then they wont listen to you outside before you walk. So struggle outside with so much distractions then go into the store?? Wow. Way deceive your viewers. Just like going to a dog park. Your dog isn't listening outside would you bring your dog inside? Bad dog training

I know that area of Atlanta. I used to do some art shows around Ansley Mall around 2003 or so. There was a place called Aurora coffee that has the best organic coffee and they let me hang paintings there. The actor that played Webster also lives in that area. Too bad all the restaurants are closed for dining in. There's a place called The Olive Bistro off Ponce De Leon and as far as I know, they still have my paintings there. I miss Atlanta since we are in Florida. One day I'll get back up there.

Someone from Reddit recommended you and I have to say smartest decision I’ve made! I even bought your book because you got me so excited about my puppy and I’s new journey together! I’m sure you have a million comments but I’m hoping you could maybe give me a quick answer? I followed your video on getting my new puppy acquainted with his harness and it worked for getting it on! I tried playing with him to distract him from it once it was on and used cut up ham as a very special treat for doing it but he just hates it I think. He doesn’t want to play and just lays around almost depressed now. Should I take it off or let him get used to it? Maybe just leave it on in increments? I hate to see him upset or unhappy.. any tips?

Keriel Watson, I have seen many many dogs, mine included who are not mentally stressed, yet better behaved. A young 7 month old puppy Iknow right now, is significantly better behaved, and actually over confidant. You can train a dog without ruining them, tht is all I am trying to say. If it was my dog, I would be expecting better behavior by this age.

@@Sarah-vs3lo hun, what makes you think you know what's going in your dog's head? You know the reoccurring thing said to people suffering with depression or anxiety? "oh wow, I never knew you were struggling". Said even by close family, friends and partners. So if humans can't even tell when a fellow human is under mental stress, what makes you think you can understand another species when you've had zero academic/professional training? You do not know what your dog is experiencing. You're guessing at best. Inertia is only a puppy, and of a breed that can take three years to reach mental maturity. To be demanding obedience in situations like in the video, before she's even a year old? Lol yeah, that's not healthy

I recently acquired a black lab coon 6 month old puppy. He knows basic commands but he was totally an ass on the leash. I dont think his previous owners worked with him on the leash at all. So since Friday when we got him we've worked hard on jerking and pulling on leash. Today was an accomplishment I'm highly impressed by how well he did today virtually almost no pulling or jerking.

I like to actually see Inertia in this new setting. I have a Bullmastiff puppy, same age as Inertia, and I live in the centre of Sofia (capitol of Bulgaria, 2m people) and in the beginning it was very difficult going anywhere with him. He was so scared of everything. Now he is fine with all the sounds, but we still have some work to do with getting his attention. Busses, trams, ambulances, kids on skateboards, even horse drawn carts, Sofia is full of distractions. So it is good to get a bit of confirmation that it is a difficult training environment. If anyone wants to see him, he has an Insta :P instagram.com/bobo.the.bullmastiff/

I literally was just doing this kind of training with my 6 month puppy today haha, he's always pulling and distracted! We've tried many treats and I think he's just not that food oriented. How is it that some training centers show videos of 2 weeks progress of dogs that learn to perfectly relax, heel, etc.? How do they do it?
@lilyvera354
@lilyvera354 4 жыл бұрын
These trainers usually use a balance of different quadrants to build the behavior, not just treats and luring. I'm a trainer myself and I'm currently training my puppy (a few weeks younger than Inertia). I have been using corrections from a very young age and she has been "perfectly relaxed heeling" off-leash/on-leash, in busy streets, on crosswalks, by cars, past people and dogs for months now. I'm not saying this to brag, but I just want people to realize that ignoring bad behaviors is very counterproductive. If the dog starts pulling, do something about it. The more you allow it, the more rewarding it becomes (I pull, I get to sniff). Step back, turn around, ask your dog to sit by you or lure him with a "touch" or treat into position and THEN walk. It might be frustrating the first time, but if you stick to it everything becomes clear. There are no "but's" and "if's". It isn't stressful for the dog, because you still reward all of the good, but you just also correct the bad. A dog that is pulling is not happier. Being distracted doesn't make a dog happy, and "letting a dog be a dog" is no excuse. My dog knows she needs to respect the leash: if she gets to the end of she needs to loosen it back, even in a "break". If I ask to "heel", she forgets about the smells and focuses on me. It's not cruel and she's still enjoying the walk by my side... the only difference is that she is relaxed and focused on the right things. Now that she is in this state, if a squirrel runs by, a dog walks past or a car drives beside us, she won't be overwhelmed and she'll be reassured because she knows I'm in charge (if anything happens, she can just follow my lead... in her mind I CAN HANDLE IT, so she doesn't have to). A dog can only follow a treat for so long. That might be the reason why your dog isn't food motivated. Which, by the way, is a learnt behavior, not a trait characteristic or personality issue. Animals *need* to eat, that's how they survive, so thinking there could ever be a fox or wolf or dog that is "just not that food oriented" is impossible. All animals are food oriented, BUT they can get bored of food if they don't find it valuable anymore. If you free-feed your dog and give him tons of treats without him working for them, he learns that food is always there. Why should he ever work for food if he can have it without effort anyway? I would highly recommend you start using his meals in training. Put his food in a baggy and put it in your pocket, train with it for breakfast. The dog will have a meal, be mentally stimulated and you just made the dog realize that food isn't "free" and if he works for it, he can get it. (Do this *for* breakfast time so the dog is naturally inclined to want food). I'd also recommend you look up "engagement training", there are some wonderful ways to make your puppy more eager to work for you and more focused on commands. I wrote out these long paragraphs not to make you feel bad, I'm really passionate about dog training, I just wanted to help you. I sincerely hope you find this useful.

This depends on which organization and what owner trained team you look at in most cases our biggest concern and fear with being owner trainers is the judgement not being able to say that we're from some really well known organization means theres nothing to back us up and we get judged constantly. Personally Ii always have the fear of if my dog sniffs something or doesn't sit immediately when I stop I'll be deemed a fake team that dead set fear most of us have means that our dogs are held to extremely high standards and if they cant hit that point often times they end up being "washed" out of work

oh… that makes sense. I didn't think of the logistics of being a youtuber. Hope you and your family are doing well. I got your book and your audio book to help us with our female-pitbull-lab rescue. Watching the videos with Jacob has helped. Thanks again to the entire Zak George team

Do you plan to take the crosswalk training further? For example intentional disobedience (where Interia learns to know when it’s safe to cross or not and make her own decision). Hope I explained that well if you’ve never heard of the concept. Love your videos.

So I don't think this has anything to do with this video but my dogs are fighting. They love eachother and would never hurt a fly at any time except for when they fight. It happens once everyother month and we don't know what sets them off but they draw blood and will not let go no matter what you do. Hit them yell at them try to say treat or food but they don't stop and we have to pull them apart when they regrip. We also tried to let them fight it out but we're scared they may kill eachother and I don't know what to do most of the time they're great buddies and love eachother...

1. Are they from the same litter 2.have you tried put them in separate rooms with a baby gate up and reintroducing them after a break from each other?
@sadierobinson5675
@sadierobinson5675 4 жыл бұрын
@@Olivia-wr5op no they aren't we had the first for awhile before we got the second. And we don't need a gate or anything we just separate them for an hr or more then they're fine again. A little tense but they won't get in another fight...

Hi Zac, I'm getting a Sarplaninac puppy in about a month and I'm wondering how to go about socialising him amid the covid-19 lockdown. Most vets currently are only open for emergencies which I don't think includes general vaccinations. Therefore, I won't be able to take him to the dog park. I know that the first 8-17 weeks are critical for socialising so would love some guidance here. Thanks.

Oh hey, that’s not too far from Orpheus Brewery. I’ve gone a few times and have planned on taking my dog there for additional training in more urban areas once he’s become more reliable in the busier areas of the suburb I’m at. I like their beer and the fact that they’re dog friendly. 😆 Of course, that’s been postponed until it’s safer to go for more than just picking up some stuff and leaving. 😑 But I didn’t know the store you went to was dog friendly! I’m always looking for more, especially being a smaller space (but again, kind of harder to do in these strange times because I know they’re curbside only right now.. 😅).

Don't feed them too much/often. Don't feed food that is better than the treats you train with. Don't ask too much before rewarding. If it's too difficult to earn a reward the dog will give up. 9 weeks is pretty young. It's good to start training early. Just keep your expectations realistic. By 3 months a puppy that can sit, wait and is partiality potty trained is good progress.

How should we approach other owners with dogs on walks? My female has been snapped at every single time, I don’t know if she comes off too strong with invading space or their dog is just protective! They claim the dogs nice but now we’ve been avoiding owners, which I know is not good for our golden in terms of socializing I don’t know what to do :( (She’s very submissive and won’t snap or fight back)

Maybe try to find dogs that are calm and socialise her with them, so she can have positive experiences with other dogs. If dogs seem to take exception too her then I would suggest treating her when she sees another dog ect do she doesn't become anxious or even aggressive. If even non reactive dogs seem to snap at her when she appears and it is her rather than the dog, maybe train her to heel when she sees another dog so she doesn't get injured. Hope this helped slightly xx

Never let dogs meet on leash. It inhibits their body language and the leash pressure and excitement combined causes tension that can cause the friendliest dog to snap or start a fight

This most likely isn't a problem that can be corrected with treats and luring. You'll have to see a behavioral specialist if your dog has aggression issues
