This video is a complete step by step guide on how to remove a 1990-1996 Nissan 300zx Intake Plenum along with the Intake and Exhaust Valve Covers. Make sure to leave us a like and subscribe to our channel!
(Disclaimer): About 5 years ago I did the complete egr delete along with the plenum coolant line delete. Extra steps may need to be taken that I was not able to cover!

Sorry dude, but what you are calling knock sensors at the back of the intake valve covers are the Variable Timing Solenoids. The ICU sends a signal to them and they push the cam forward to change the valve timing. The knock sensor (there is only 1) is located under the lower plenum. Any time you pull the upper plenum, it is highly recommended that you also pull the lower and replace the knock sensor because of all the work you have to do to get at it.

Make sure you get balance tube o rings they are get smashed as soon as you use new ones so always replace those. I work at CZP so there is some stuff you're gonna want to do before you embark on this. 93 and newer are different btw

Label the connections, it'll save alot of guess work when you're putting the plenum back on and are confused what connects to what. It's a PAIN IN THE ASS JOB, BUT THE DELETES HELP A TON ALSO.

Man thank you for the video. I blew the gasket out on the EGR block off. Pulling the plenum seemed daunting. thanks for breaking it down. Hopefully the car will hold idle when I replace the gasket haha.

You can get the EGR bolts off in 5 min... 1.) Raise up the front of the car with jack stands or ramps. 2.) Get a few wobble extentions (about 3 feet worth). 3.) Get under the car with your ratchet and build up your extention to the bolts. 4.) Have a buddy up top help seat your 10mm socket on to the EGR bolts....badafucknbing, go to the other side and do it again. 5.) Drink a beer, smoke a cigar, and don't kick yourself in the ass too hard for not thinking of this.

Sorry if this has been mentioned below, but bamboo shish-ka-bob skewers placed in the bolt holes will keep your plenum gasket in line (you don't have to do all of them, usually the four corners and a middle or two) and then simply lower the plenum onto the skewers all the way down to the block and the gasket will stay aligned. The skewers are smaller than the bolts so there will still be a tiny bit of wiggle to perfectly align the gasket up but way easier, especially if you're doing the job by yourself. From there, just remove one skewer at a time replacing it with a bolt.

No worries the half moon seals go on the back of the valve covers (the side closest to the fire wall)

Hey dude! Hope you're doing well. Question - how hard is it to remove the IACV? I've heard its a pain but I need to do it since i have a hunting idle issue with my Z. It is a pain to drive a 500hp car with idle issues that cause it to stall if you let off the gas too quickly. Would love some pointers!!!

Honestly the egr piping only took me 15 minutes for both sides. I used an open end wrench. The shitty part was i had no turning room. I also got lucky my egr bolts broke free with no problems

Thank you, and I did some digging and one I didn't have a good enough brace to pass for tech at drift events and the the belief about how battery's emit certain fumes in the cabin and since I do not have a direct block from it I put it back outside the cabin

Question on the sand blaster. I'm gonna be getting my Z repainted and I was told by a body man that my Z was covered thick with paint from being painted a few times over the years and the best thing to do would be to sand blast it to get it to bare metal and start fresh. Could you send me a link to a good quality sand blaster and how fine of a sand should I go with? Now I have also been told to go with walnut shells because you can wrap metal with sand. What's your take on that?

2 cans of each, 2 basecoat and 2 red, 2 primer and 2 black

What size is the red hose you use for the coolant line delete that you looped around ?

It was in a universal kit off ebay some years ago. I'd highly recommend using coolant hoses because at the end of this season one hose sprang a leak 🙃

Jeremy - Did you apply Clear Coat to the red paint? I used the same paint on some engine items and it looks so goood. I am worried the clear coat might ruin it. Kindly advise...

I did not use clear coat. Clear I believe bakes at a certain temp. I just painted them and left em and they have been great no issues

Rubber mallet softly hit the outter corners, then around the edges and slowly pry

Depends on what you are shooting for z1 sells oem replacements. I usually use those for the daily driver, but for the drift car i use NGK copper plugs

No problem at all, all sand and debris were cleared from tiny crevices after rinsing with water

Oops, after sleeping on my comment, I need to make a change. Those are solenoids. The intake cams are hollow with a rod inside. Above a certain engine rpm the ICU sends a signal to activate these solenoids and they push the rod into the intake sprocket on the front of the engine changing the timing of the intake valves. They definitely DON'T move the intake cams themselves! Also, there are 2 connectors near the firewall that are side by side and the same size. If you hook them up backwards you get a 34 code and car won't run right.

When it's your first time allot for like 2-3 hrs. Once all deletes are done and practice I can get it off in 15 mins

Half moon seals go on the back side of the head. They go under the valve covers towards the firewall on the car
