3 жыл бұрынFootball Manager has a ton of different facets, but there is only one that can make FM completely IMPOSSIBLE to win at. The team’s morale and dynamics. FM morale, player morale and the larger squad dynamic, can lose you a match before it even starts. Learning how to keep your team focused and ready to play can have the opposite effect, getting on a roll with average tactics and players. I lay down every tip I have to help you stay out of the Football Manager doldrums and punch above your weight with happiness.
It sounds crazy but over the weekend in the streamer showdown I realized I had to make a morale video right away. It’s impossible to think anything could be more important than the one thing that changes FM player’s commitment to the game. My fault for not making this video earlier. Thanks also to the DMs for putting this on the front of my mind as well.

fyi you can add playing time happiness as a custom column in your squad/tactic view, pretty handy especially if you're like me and forget about this stuff.

Like in my current andorran save. Finishing top 6 means finishing in the bottom three... but at the same time you get an Euro Cup II place because we are 6th in the UEFA Nations Coefficient table. Literally everyone that doesn't get relegated gets continental football at this point.

My first of the month reminder: Board Requests, Transfer Listed, End Contract, DoF Suggestions, Shortlist update (don't have it on auto), Team Training, Individual Training, Mentoring if influence changed may need switching , Happiness. Always good to have one.

I see some people who hate the intros. Well I watch every single Zealand video, but normally the upload time isnt convenient so I cant watch immediately so I just click, watch the intro and watch the rest later because I love them so much.

Morale is a killer in the showdown if you get hit early in the first few games - managed to recover mine but was too late, damage was done!

I'd almost argue that Football Manager should be renamed Morale Manager due to the importance of it. With low team morale you are basically screwed. Also thank you Zealand for your videos. I've been struggling in FM and just thought the game was out to get me, but I've been applying your tips the last few weeks and strangely enough, my team and the setup surrounding it has improved immensely.

This is spot on. I'd add whether you're playing at home or away should drive the confidence/complacency media answers more so rather than expectations, the expectations drive how far on the scale of the answer you go. The post-match team meeting works the opposite way where expectation is more important. Once you get in the groove with the high morale wins matches keeps high morale, it becomes a bit of a rinse and repeat.

If your morale is low you can arrange a friendly with a very low reputation team and beat them like 10-0, it will put your morale back to a overall good standing. Very useful if you are fighting relegation in a season and you are getting beat often - just arrange a friendly every other match and get an easy win.

Morale is underrated... I sold ozil and bought 2 players at Arsenal (van de beek, Lautaro) and went unbeaten in the league 19/20.

Team Bonding and Match Reviews, the 2 things you should drop into the schedule every week that regular schedules never include. Also, any week I have 1 or fewer matches, I use Community Outreach in addition to the Team Bonding. It helps get the team pulling together on the field if they do it off the field.

I ALWAYS have my team doing a bonding session nearly every week. Aswell as training teamwork, match tactics and fitness etc. I like to balance most areas but I always do community outreach and team bonding

The one happiness one I dislike is the three striker management complaint. I want my third choice to be a talent but the squad all want three (near) first team quality strikers.

For those wondering, your players do get over sales of important players, but it does take a while & you might need to hold a team meeting if you’re selling a big player. For example, I tried to sell Troy deeney as Watford. Needed to hold a team meeting 😂

I'm doing a save with Les Herbiers from the third division in France, my captain is a guy called Beherlé, I've never a better captain, every single issue the players have, he just go talk to them and they drop it, even if it happens very often, like a shitty player wanting game time over my best player when we are pushing for promotion, every time it works, it's the first time I have a good captain.

Meat pie? What the hell... Ps I saw the streamer showdown. There was an appalling lack of defense being played on the wings. Most everyone was sending fullbacks and wingbacks screaming upfield. The people who did the best, from what I saw, sat back and countered up the wings. More than once i saw 3 on 2s coming back on people who were playing way too attacking considering the level of players that were drafted. Then the “solution” was to overload forward... the worst possible thing to do.

Zealand doing a counter attacking video would be interesting, in my opinion, if I may be so bold. Many of us start playing this team with a weak team to gradually raise it against and eventually slay the giants. Starting out counter attacking would be useful, to me at least.

18 of my players are unhappy with "the way I lead the team". I think that's why I struggle to win matches (got promoted to the Bundesliga, then relegated, and I am struggling in the bottom of Bundesliga 2 although my squad should be good enough to compete for promotion again). But it doesn't say WHY they are unhappy with the way I lead the team. Are they unhappy with my tactics? Are they unhappy with my team talks/shouts? A little help would be appreciated. (They are satisfied with everything else).

probably training and tactics. Be aware that morale is a dangerous thing. You can have the team to compete for promotion but if you have a few bad games and morale goes down, bringing it up can be hard if you dont have consistent good results. Try to inject new blood in the team, make a few transfers and talk with your players individualy. Level up their morale and adjust your training and you should recover

The spitball formula I go by, Success in FM is 10% players, 30% tactics, 10% youth development, 10% club reputation, and 40% morale. Morale is the easiest thing to keep up, but also the easiest thing to screw yourself with, as anyone who's attempted the bottom at Christmas challenge can attest. Turning it around after it goes red is one of the hardest things in the game. And if you've ever seen Man United go down in your save, you know the power of morale.

So would morale in a way be a multiplier of sorts? So let's say that a striker has 20 Composure, Finishing and etc. but terrible morale, would the probability of him scoring reduce despite his attributes? I.e. Perfect morale will make him way more likely to score, Abysmal morale will make him much less likely to score

Morale is more of a cumulative, team thing. If your team goes a goal behind and has abysmal morale you aren't coming back, no matter how much 'better' your players might be supposed to be. The players put in less effort so you create less chances, the ones that hate each other will never pass the ball to each other ( a problem if one is a winger and the other your lone striker). At a macro level get ready for a load of transfer requests and people missing training..it's just bad.

Low morale makes players much more likely to get negative body languages during a match. Don't think of it on numbers alone.

@@llSuperSnivyll One think that I hate the most is Apprehensive & Nervous, especially when the team's winning. We're 3-0 up, chill the hell up. No team talk can get them fired up/inspired

@@hanwenyap The best thing to do in that situation I think is to just tell them to calm down, or like you said "chill the hell up". They'll be calm for 10 minutes, and then after that you hit'em with the Show some passion!

The everything is important part is just an exaggeration for purposes... obviously not everything is that important. Like for example, deciding the numbers on the back of your players shirt isnt that important.

I hate these "Dialogues features" of the game... I really dont want to talk to press/players/clubowners its too much boring and repetitive. :/

Just send an assistant manager to do that for you. Well, at least the press conferences. I still think talking to club owners and players are pretty necessary feature for just that little bit of immersion, it doesnt happen that often anyway, unlike the press conferences.
