@@sqweeeiguessidfkman7999 it is because the other branches generally look down on the usaf. They hide in the center of the country, behind all of the civilians as well as the other branches. Even the coast guard is out there on the front lines while the usaf defends Nebraska. That and their total and complete lack of physical fitness requirements. No run and i think it was 2 pushups for the PRT back when i was in. It made us feel good about our weakling navy PRT standards in that at least we werent the Air Farce.

Hey Tyler. You commented that you couldn't get your Veteran's card after years of trying. I had the same issue and after almost 30 years, I finally found the answer. In my state, NC, I can submit my DD-214 to my DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and apply for a Veteran's designation on my license. I'm good to go now!

The woman who paid the fine in pennies and quarters - because she was paying a government body they are supposed to accept the payment in whatever form it is made as it legal tender. If it was a private company they could refuse the payment but as a government body they are required to accept it.

@shawnkelly695 funny I've worked retail and we didn't accecpt rolled coins unless first breaking then open to count and inspect the coins. A very common scam is taking those rolls of quarters or dimes... put a coin 1 side fill it with stuff like gravel and sand pop on coin on the other and it feels like a full roll of coins.

We rescued a sled dog in Anchorage years ago. I fastened a clip to her harness and she would pull our kid's sleds back up the hill all day long. Lucky had endless energy. She was a good girl.

@@saltyginger777 We rescued her from the pound. By 'sled dog', I mean she was bred for it. They are a mix, not pure breeds but I'm not an expert. She seemed very happy doing it. She also pulled my daughter on her cross-country skis.

In my state you can go to the county veterans affairs office ( not connected to VA ) and get a free ID card with your DD214. I'm retired Army so I have that one and my wife has a ret. spouse one.

Veteran to veteran--there are several documents that prove prior service. Check with your state. Does your driver's license state that you are a veteran? Get a copy of your DD-214 and make a pocket card out of it. Bring a magnifying glass, too. I retired and have a retired ID card. Sometimes you can get a federal ID card with your veteran status. Check with VA. That's a lot of trouble for just for a veteran's discount!

Also call your local VA and usually on the line they mention something about benefits. When I was first getting mine and getting my card while waiting on disability verification, they made a regular VA card with picture for me. The main thing is getting with the local VA and if nothing else talk to the VFW or American Legion. They usually know ways to make things happen.

Stop by your local armory. There's generally someone in there that creates cards. Each state has at least a couple, so you may have travel. (Bring your DD-214 and ID.)

Veteran to Veteran, you should be able to take your DD-214 to a VA Hospital & get your VIC (Veterans Identification Card) at the eligibility & enrollment office. If you served & didn't get a Dishonorable you are still eligible for the healthcare benefits even with a 0% disability rating, right?

you are correct. all vets should sign up so Congress can't lower the funding. also meets the requirement for insurance for tax purposes. hope you never need it, but 20 minutes {quick check up}, twice a year helps vets who do.

Just another BS reason for them to send a piece of paper First Class Mail to millions of veterans, just another waste of money. Also, didn’t Congress during the first 2 years of Trump wipe out that fee for being uninsured, we may be talking past each other, but I thought that was deemed an unconstitutional requirement.

In 2005 I bought a Hi-8 camera, 5mp point and shoot, and accessories in anticipation of my first born son from a major electronics store. $1108 and some change. They rejected my check because their computer flagged it as risky. So I withdrew $1,109 in singles, tore off all the wrappers, and paid in cash. I applaud the guy who paid his ticket in pennies. They choose to work for ahoes, they get treated like ahoes... That's not their life, they choose where they want to work. Their employer caused that issue, they chose to do their employers dirty work, they get to do the dirty work.. ALL money is legal tender.. Nobody EVER wrote a law saying it had to be wrapped in a pretty little bow so they didn't have to count it.

In MN many restaurants charge a 5% service fee. This does not go to the server. The restaurant keeps it "to pay better wages(428A.03)". So basically a legal loophole to subsidize their terrible pay for the back of the house(cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, etc). Repeat, it does not go to the server. It goes to the owner. Legally they have to give it to the employees(cooks, prep cooks etc). Why they don't just act as honorable business owners is weird to me. I'm a bartender/server. I hate it, my guests hate it, and no one understands it. No one likes to see a fee added to the bill. Just raise the prices 5%, have some integrity, and give that 5% to your employees. It's truly ridiculous that we have to legislate this type of bs.

I don't believe in TIPS, Everyone INCLUDING WAITERS should get a minimum wage, and then paid any extra for "extra skills", (like up-market Cooking skills). There should Not be such a Huge Problem that they have Made it into.

@@scottcarr3264 I understand that and I agree to an extent. That's just not how America works. If you want the same degree of service that you get at sit-down restaurants then you can tip the 20% or pay likely triple or quadruple the prices. If restaurants pay the servers what it's worth to do the job they would have to pay $25-$30 an hour minimum, and labor is the biggest expense a business has. So if you like $45 burgers that's fine. Or you could pay $15 and tip 20%. The business isn't going to eat that cost, they will pass it down to you. The margins are too small. Even if the restaurants pay a flat rate(liveable wage) there is no incentive to go above and beyond. No one will care about your experience, outside of losing their jobs. Good thing there isn't a labor shortage(supposedly).

Finished your book last night. First: I knew your name wasn't Tyler Zed, but I didn't see that coming! Second: My daughter was at Lackland for basic while you were there after Japan. She got injured a couple times, so it's possible you two met. She said your last name sounded familiar. Third: I've got a huge amount of respect for you and your brothers. Deev in particular. As someone who also took a turn down the wrong path, but also did a 180 and got right, I've always thought I could spot a fellow wanderer. I had a feeling that Deev and I had some similar experiences. Your book confirmed it. Tyler, 20 years ago, the Credit Card/Debit fee that banks charge was 3% (I'm sure it's gone up since then). It used to be included in the cost of doing business. Now, many business are passing that charge directly to the customer. Just FYI, I know several bank presidents, and it only cost the bank about .5 cents to electronically process the charge. Use cash whenever possible.

This past Thanksgiving we saw that our upstairs neighbor had bought some frozen crap from the Dollar General for their dinner. We made the three of them a plate & brought it to them. They were really moved by the gesture. We share with a few of our neighbors whenever we make pies, cakes, muffins, bread pudding, cookies & various types of bread all the time. It's better than letting it go bad or getting fat from eating all of it, isn't it? It's kinda the same principle when it comes to the internet. We already pay for the service & if one of our neighbors can't afford to get Wifi coverage themselves then I could probably be convinced to give them access to ours. We're faaaaar from wealthy, we're well below the poverty line actually, so generosity from others is very much appreciated. Since we can understand that from a first-person-experience perspective, it's rather natural to try to "pay it forward" in our own modest way. Imagine what our world would be like if we all did the same thing? Well, that's wishful thinking since common courtesy, like common sense, isn't quite so common any longer.

Started your book yesterday, Baby Huey! had a female baby huey in my basic training when I was in the Army in 86, she dropped the gernade about 10 ft from her and the drill sargent pick her and ran faster then anyone I’ve ever seen and then landed on top of her behind this retaining wall. Man did the whole unit pay for that for weeks, it did make me into the best shape I’ve ever been in though🙃

if you want an ID that shows you are a veteran, bring ur DD214 to the dmv and they will put "veteran" on ur license. it helps sometimes when you get pulled over for going a little too fast.

I'm in the tri-cities area of Tennessee (northeast corner) and where I am, we saw one snow storm this season and it was 7". I stayed home, because they don't plow my road until every other county road is cleared, or so it seems. One neighbor who runs a tow truck, brought me a gallon of milk. If she thought it was a dog, she didn't freak out, the feline didn't feel threatened nor did it seem hungry enough to want to hunt humans, so it didn't attack. Simple. I think the fact that it was dark outside and she kinda had a light shining in her eyes also helped with not identifying the animal correctly. Sooo.. everybody got lucky and it made for a cool shot.

I think, by her saying " I think it's a dog" says to me the Lights were strong enough that she couldn't Clearly see what it was, and because she thought it was a domestic Dog, it was OK, she didn't get Scared and the Cat didn't react to her. because Animals can sense Fear, she showed None, so the Cat didn't sense any threat.
