Hey guys, in this video we are gonna be replacing coolant hose from thermostat housing to cylinder head, one of the most common coolant leaks (failures) on N51/N52 engines. Procedure is very similar on all N51/N52 engines which will include 128i, 328i, 528i, X3, X5, Z4, although on X3 and X5 it might a bit more difficult and tighter in some areas.
Thank you for watching

I replaced the flange on my E92 with 130K miles two weeks ago. Funny how it looks fine on the outside but will fall apart as you pull it off, it rots from the inside out.

Hello Mr. Zeiten, Don't you open the purge screw beside the reservoir tap for the electrical pump test in order to take out any air through the cooling system ? Congrats and thank's in advance BimmerN53

great dyi, did this today and ngl, this took few hours, it was hard to get down there and clamp was in angle which meets the control arm even with smallest wrench, eventually (after I was able to rescue my tools which felt down on engine cover) I was able witch just the socket apply enough force with hands so I turned the clamp just enough upwards so I could loosen it.. even the removing the hose took some time because it felt like it was glued there.. applying so much pressure felt like no good for thermostat and pump connections - everything is fragile after those years anyway I would strongly recommend to just get the plastic MM fitting to cyl head and cut the hose if it fine, and get new clamp on top part

Start with expansion tank and see what happens, all other components might be fine or not, bleed the system and keep an eye on water pump

i did the same to X5 E70 N51 the other day, but my Mcikey mouse seems extremely tight to push in even with lub. after I get it installed, fired up the engine, and leaks..... question, which mickey mouse did you get ? what type of O ring to get if I replace it ? can I use regular plumbing o brings ?

We got the new Mickey Mouse hose on and did the bleed sequence. Unfortunately, we have another leak now. Best I can tell it's one of those two short hoses (One short hose has a very slight elbow type bend and the other short hose is U shaped with a heat shield wrapped around it). Not sure what happened as it seems like a new leak. Perhaps from the repair (which is not really near that area) or maybe there was an air pocket in the system and one of those 2 hoses burst open. Thanks. Philip

MY pick( to remove radiator hose clamps) fell into the black plastic E90 right BELOW hinge for hood LATCH..I cant get it out..the hole is in between both kidney grills but I cant see the part or see any opening in this black plastic funnel-like piece where it fell..any ideas? I dont want it to pierce my radiator or ac condensor...hope u can help ty for the awesome videos!

HEY ZEITEN! Sorry to bother ..fast question ~~~I am replacing the collant temp sensor right above the mickey mouse flange..do i have to bleed the system if i dont drain anything and put the part in really fast? thanks
@Zeiten
@Zeiten Жыл бұрын
I’d say yes, but electric coolant pump bleeding in general is not that crucial compared to mechanical pump, in other words i’ve seen cars after major coolant system work done running just fine without bleeding at all (although i strongly advise to bleed the system every time when doing anything coolant related)

Excellent info. QUESTION PLEASE: (I have a 2008 E90 Sedan 335XI, N54 engine)... Would this method be exactly the same for my 2008 E90 N54? Is there any way to detach the lower portion of the hose from underneath the car as I already have the bottom shield off my car. Note: My hose is very similar, but is a slightly different shape the way in bends, than the one you have. Thanks as always. Phil

The general principle is the same although it’s not exactly the same process, still doable from the top and might be easier from the bottom

HEY ZEITEN I have a couple questions in this order #1 I am replacing 328i 2008 UPPER RADIATOR HOSE..how do u remove the bottom HOSE on it and what is that hose called? #2 do i have to drain the entire antifreeze if Im replacing the upper radiator HOSe and the mickey mouse COOLANT FLANGE..FLANGE ONLY I GOT AN ALUMINUM ONE #3 My radiator fan is on as normal when i have my car ac on, but its hot here in Florida..my infrared said upper hose was 200 degrees and i dont see fan coming on when i shut car off and its still hot...what temp does it turn on??? Hope u can answer all three..thanks UR VIDEOS R AWESOME!!!
@Zeiten
@Zeiten Жыл бұрын
1) it’s a heater hose, removed just like any other coolant hose on bmw, release the clip 2) no, you can just empty expansion tank, that should minimize the spill 3) don’t overthink it, normal operating temperature is about 98-102 degrees C so about 200-215F

@@Zeiten OH THANKS so much for answering right away I love ur videos I learned so much from u !! On that bottom heater hose connected to the upper radiator hose E90, do u pull it straight off or twist?? and also, when u bleed COOLANT, do u OPEN or CLOSE the COOLANT TANK CAP??? and is a aluminum mickey mouse FLANGE OK to use ??..ty very very much awesome videos!!
@Zeiten
@Zeiten Жыл бұрын
Happy to help, all the bmw coolant hoses must be pulled straight, be very careful with upper radiator hose, coolant cap open, and aluminum flange is fine as long as you don’t damage o-ring during installation very common issue
