it is a bit disheartening that a lot of “clean” and “sustainable” beauty brands have limited shade ranges and products that wouldn’t work for people who aren’t white :/ foundations need different undertones as well as shades. hair care as well! Not all hair types can handle the same stuff. I may just have to remedy this by starting my own brand🤷🏾‍♀️ love your channel❤️

This was great! A few tips from a makeup artist: -please don't curl your lashes AFTER applying mascara! Even if it's dry, it can break or pull out lashes -Don't store an old mascara wand in an old tube, the tube can contain lots of bacteria and is almost impossible to clean completely -expiry dates are more of a guideline, but if the product is really old/the formula or scent changes, please get rid of it! -that palette of bronzer/highlight can double as a great basic eyeshadow palette! -even with acne, only a small portion of your face really needs full coverage. Better to start light and build up on the spots where its needed :)

I love that you stress that it’s okay to use up your existing products! I feel like so many people when they switch to “zero waste” just throw all the old stuff away so that they can start over. It’s really sad! I’ve been on this journey for about a year and I have stopped calling it zero waste because I agree with you in our society it’s impossible to live completely zero waste. I try to make smart decisions about what I buy so that it is as sustainable as I can acquire while still being in my budget. Again thank you for putting out reasonable videos that show how easy it is to live more sustainable.

Truthfully, same! I really don't like the term "zero waste" but as someone trying to contribute to sustainable living online, I felt like using the term is best for SEO but I'm trying my best to show others that sustainable living is really just about thinking outside the box, not striving for a number of items in your trash 💛THANK YA for being a magical human and caring for mama earth! ECOTOOLS! They use recycled or recyclable materials for their makeup brushes and other tools, and they are vegan with synthetic bristles and they are so beautiful. That would be my advice for anyone that needs any new makeup brushes. The one fault might be that they use quite a lot of packaging, but a lot of it is also recyclable, and you can get a set of brushes in the same packege, so no need to waste the packaging for every brush separately.

@@hopefortheworld5296 Where I've bought them most of it is cardboard. But yes, as I said before, the plastic might be a deal breaker for some. Honestly, I have never found any makeup brushes that are sold without packaging, they are after all personal hygiene products that I wouldn't want on my face if someone had touched them before me. And for me it is a lot that they offer products that are made of already recycled materials that I will use for the rest of my life if I take care of them. I wouldn't buy packaging free ones anyway if they were any less high-quality than those.

This video makes you sit and and realize how many actual problems there are in the world, but it is so refreshing to see someone so transparent and open and their trials trying to navigate them. From inclusivity, to low waste, to accessibility, you hit points on all of them rather than only pointing out packaging or shopping local and completely disregarding shade ranges, etc-which are also equally important. It’s overwhelming to tackle all of these issues, but you’re doing a darned good job and it’s wonderful too see how far your routine has come since your last makeup vid! 💕💄

Hi guys! Just a quick note about *mascara bacteria.* OF COURSE you need to be careful when re-using your tubes! I sanitized mine very intensely before using it. I thought that was a given so I forgot to mention it. DEFINITELY be careful! 💛 But I also don't know why I thought it was okay to suggest that on the internet because there are a loooot of people on here and something can EASILY go wrong. Your eyes are VERY IMPORTANT and an infection of some sort is no joke. *I take back recommending it* and would like to recommend either cleaning your brush and storing it in something more sanitary of your choice, or using another more sanitary method that works for you! I definitely wasn’t planning on using this wand forever! It's just what has worked to get me to start consistently using the product for the last couple months (I've owned it for a year but was still using up old mascaras, and only started using it consistently for the last few). I'd like to find something better that is reusable and more sanitary for sure. That’s why I said in the video something along the lines of “I don’t know how long this brush will last but it’s working for now” x

So you're using mascara with bees wax but still call yourself a vegan? I'm confused.
@SedonaChristina
@SedonaChristina 5 жыл бұрын
@@alonememe I own 3 products total in my life that use beeswax (one mascara, one lip product, and one cream. And they're the only stereotypically 'non vegan' things I have in my life and each of them will last me YEARS!) and it was NOT a decision I made lightly. I did a LOT of research before I decided to do so. There were a bunch of factors that lead me to do this, and it was an ethical decision that I made for the bees and the other animals and our planet. I don't want to go into depth about my reasonings, because I feel it's best that everyone make their own ethical decision. I don't want to be a human on the internet who tells others how to live their life ethically. Especially because this one is a bit on the fence ethically. There are positives and minuses, and I just decided the positives outweighed the negatives. I suppose in sharing these products, I am ethically encouraging a little bit, but I just felt like if I made a whole video on it, people would just jump on what I was doing without doing their own research, just because I had justified it. And I wanted to let others make their own decision. I opened up about this on instagram a little over a year ago, and was surprised to hear that out of the comments I received, around 95% of those who responded and were also vegan, agreed with me. So I know I'm not alone in this one. There are definitely a lot of people who identify as vegan and incorporate bee product, and most of them use more than I do. You can take the "vegan" word away from me if you'd like, I don't need a word to define me. Because at the end of the day, the reason I chose to live the veg lifestyle was to be the kindest I can be to the planet and the animals, and my research showed me that it is more beneficial to support *VERY SMALL* quantities of bee product than not to economically support it at all. But again, it's up to each individual! Until zero waste vegan items are more widely available, and vegan wax is made more locally/sustainably/durable, this is a decision I am okay with. But I also think it's good to support small quantities of bee product financially and from the RIGHT PLACES to support a healthy bee population, so I dunno how I'd feel when that time came. Also, as vegans, let's be real, there are bigger problems out there than the bee industry, and our focus needs to be on ending the animal holocaust in factory farming for sentient non-insects. Don't forget there are people out there who are still eating animals multiple times a day, without realizing their impact on the planet and the animals. We don't need to attack people who are already on your side and nit pick at this one topic, we have to get a move on for the bigger picture. That doesn't mean that some of the cruel practices used in bee keeping aren't cruel, because there are some bad farms out there who are (and I would never support those ones. I suppose I was very trusting of the two brands I mentioned here.) BUT, i'm just saying haha.

@@SedonaChristina Wow, thank you for that honest and very detailed answer. I get your point of view, but I don't agree with it - for me being vegan comes before being zero waste (less waste to be exact). However, you should also know without makeup, you are not a "lesser" you. Your friends like you for who you are as a whole person. You should absolutely feel at ease with yourself and be just as confident on the days you don't feel like wearing makeup.

A lot of people are complaining about it (and you can tell where their priorities are at), but this is just step one to cutting back on plastic and waste. I can't wait til things fast forward a year from now to see just how much it has helped!

Sedona Christina, The foundation you mentioned has titanium dioxide in it, which is a very toxic chemical- used in white paints and lots of cosmetics- guys google it, the recent studies showed that some toothpaste companies had been adding it to reach maximum whitening effect and it caused cancer. Also, even if it doesn't bring lots of damage when applied to skin (since you are not inhaling or ingesting it), the titanium dioxide form they use in production is nanoparticle form - this form cause big damage to animals and nature around the production factory since it gets exposed to air and gets inhaled more by animals, rather then when in nature the dioxide in a bigger size and can't be inhaled that easily.

Eco tools and Elate cosmetics both make bamboo brushes that are a little more biodegradable than other brushes! Brushes will literally last a lifetime though, so I don't worry so much about what they're made of and just make sure I take good care of them so that I'm not throwing out brushes regularly, if ever. Thank you for this video! I subscribed to your channel as I'm looking to reduce my carbon and waste footprint

Thanks so much for doing all the legwork and research to help those of us interested in going cruelty-free! I moved to Besame cake mascara a few months ago and it's a learning curve for sure, but I love it! It's also easier to transport. I think Physician's Formula is also cruelty-free, although they do use plastic packaging. I use toothpaste tabs, bamboo toothbrushes, and refillable floss containers! One step at a time.

Obviously i'm using things up first but I want to find low/zero waste alternative to replace them with once I run out that ACTUALLY work. This video gave me some good ideas. My sister makes her own. She uses bees wax. That I know she doesn't add coconut oil for sure, but I'm not sure what else she puts in it, but it works wonders. I also know that carrot seed essential oil when diluted is spf 28-40. It has antioxidants that help protect skin cells. I hope this helps.

Jacqueline Aguirre spf is really important and skin cancer shouldn’t be taken lightly. Due to not knowing how effective homemade spf would be (not burning isn’t a good measure because you could still be getting uva exposure which is dangerous without burning) I wouldn’t recommend home made spf

I love the beauty and simplicity of your makeup routine! I also use and love Beseme cake mascara, but I use mine a little differently. 😊 I take my cake out of the tin, and with my clean fingers, apply a drop or 2 of water right onto the cake. I use a clean, dry spooly/mascara wand to spin into the wet cake, picking up the mascara. After applying the mascara to my lashes, I use my gentle bar soap, water, and my fingers, I wash the mascara off, tap excess water off, and allow to dry until next time. It's very easy to travel with the clean spooly as well! 😁
