Taking a charge, running the floor, moving without the ball, diving for loose balls, boxing out, communicate on defense. You do these things, you could shoot 10% from the field and still start for a college team lol.

I usually dribble move around try angles every time I get the ball, but usually pass. One time a teammate actually got upset and told me later to pass before dribble, I just looked at him and left.

@@Morgan-gp3vy Man, I remember ninth grade I took the shot It wasn’t even close. It wasn’t even just an airball. It was like 5 feet away from the entire rim now I’m in 10th grade didn’t even bother trying out. But I’m getting back in shape. Football is my main sport. But basketballs fun, I guess.

"A lot of us do this when were nervous." raises hand. "Wait!!! no coach I'm not "shakes hhead" nervous." Nightmares for days... could have been the best year of my life. so for context I definitely agree and still struggle with this. Edit: My coach had the same players for 3 years and lost about every fricken game, I'm still mad. Just gotta keep balling. Edit2: Surprised I got this many likes! not sure what to say besides say thanks and KEEP BALLING!!

1-Learn good rebounding footwork (swims and spins) 2-Make sure you're the first one getting to the paint in transition defense instead of back pedaling with your opponent. 3-If you can't dunk standing, contest vertically only, the risk of a sloppy foul isn't worth the block 4-Playmake and move the ball well at the elbow (Don't playmake on the block unless you have a pin down for a corner 3 for ur teammate)

Just remember not to be too discouraged if you don’t make the team (middle school and high school, this doesn’t really apply to AAU and college). A lot of it is based on politics and who knows who (parents and coaches). I remember trying out freshman year (yes I made the team) and there was a kid with a broken arm and another kid who was just flat out watching and they both made the team without having to do anything for the entire week.

With that being said, I'm still trying to make the team as a freshman even tho it'll be JV. Thanks for these tips bro 🙏 My question is do I focus on those handles and the shot, and just become a jack of all trades kinda guy? Or put most of my focus and make what I'm good at great and sorta be Markelle Fultz?
