We know you've been anxious to hear more about the new Ziggy Cup from Intimina. Kim has reviewed it (camping, at home, and traveling to NYC!) and has many good experiences but a few not so good (blood drawer). Plus- did it work for "mess-free period sex" and stay in place? Totally! Goes without saying this video has some TMI and will discuss sex and lots of blood.

Public restrooms should have, at least, one toilet cubicle with a sink.

I think all the female ones should have little sinks in cubicles. Just like men can stand to pee and so need urinals, women have periods and so need some PRIVATE sinks. They just dont think about females actual needs when they design stuff.

I get how it can get messy in public, but tbh i only take it out in the morning at home, and then again 12 hours later. One of the reasons I love discs is because I can just push down my pelvic floor muscles on the toilet (like trying to poop) and a good amount of the blood empties itself. I might still have to stick a finger in after to make sure its back in position, but usually I can just do a little kegle flex and it pops right back. This way, it will never overflow while I'm out and about. I just remove and wash it in the shower when i get home :)

The Ziggy Cup definitely doesn't hold 76ml in capacity! I recently ordered the Ziggy Cup as well as the Merula XL (which holds 50ml capacity). I filled the Merula XL up with water to the rim and poured it into the Ziggy Cup (Disc) and the Ziggy Cup (Disc) was full!! I haven't used the cup as of yet to see if it's a good product for me, but disappointed that the company is not being honest about the functionality of their product.

I had the same issue with Ziggy disc dislodging and pushing forward, it chaffed and was painful. I decided to insert sideways with the long sides facing my front and back once inserted. This helped A LOT. For removal, I had to pinch the edges to make it narrow enough to remove without causing discomfort. I had zero leaks and have only used Ziggy for my lighter days. I am an extremely heavy bleeder on my heavy days. I just started using the Merula XL and for the first time in years had zero leaks at night! Both products may just be my Goldielocks!

I've been using a softcup (they were called instead when I started using them) for years. One of the things I adore about it is that I can empty it hands-free into the toilet simply by bearing down and tilting. Perfect for public restrooms or camping or festivals or anywhere hand hygiene is questionable and making a mess is not ideal. Has anyone else learned this trick? If so, does it work with the ziggy? I'd love to switch to a reusable cup (I currently only use one per period, but still...) but I don't want to spend the cash if this most important element is missing. Any thoughts?

As a resuable product the Ziggy comes in the worst packaging. I thought the plastic cover was one of those boxes used to prevent theft at the drug store. Why is it in a hard plastic case?? I tried the Ziggy for the first time last night in an attempt to have mess free period sex. I struggled to put it in because it's my first time using a disc but I managed to get it behind my pelvic bone. My husband immediately felt it and it was not ignorable. I tried to readjust it and pushed it "deeper" past my pelvic bone. We tried again but he still felt it and I felt him feel it. I was incredibly disappointed because it's the only reason I wanted it. I have been using a cup for years and that works just fine for me. When I saw an advertisement for the flex disc I thought I would totally buy it if it was resuable. I want to try other discs but the sex part is the ONLY thing I am looking for. Thank you for talking about your sex experience, I'm glad it worked for you. I wish I could find people more people reviewing these products having used it for sex.

Gigi Noelani I’m a senior now, 30+ years ago there were many types of diaphragms-some that folded flat like these menstrual disks and some that had some sort of rim that arched when you folded it. I think that is the type I used-I know I was given the wrong type once, and it was a painful insertion. Difficult to get over cervix. Original Instead cup as well as diaphragms said to rotate them after insertion to check on fit/suction all the way around.

I needed to watch some of your videos so much, thank you! Also, I know this is an older video but the "leaking" point for you could have been because halfway through our cycle, most of us have a cervix shift where it drops so maybe that was the issue? Anyway, thanks again you have helped a lot!!!
@christalcavanaugh
@christalcavanaugh 3 жыл бұрын
I am no expert, but speaking from personal experience as well as the information I’ve read, it “leaking” quite possibly means either it doesn’t fit your body in particular, it’s positioned incorrectly, or you are at a point where your cervix is lower in your cycle. With the ziggy cup, I thought I was having the first problem where either the cup was bad or just wrong for me. It kept slipping, which luckily wasn’t really an issue. However, at the end of my period (last few days) my cervix is clearly higher and it has been significantly easier to correctly position both the ziggy and flex cups. I now believe that I need a smaller cup (intimina medium probably) for when my cervix is lower. For the other issue, make sure your cervix is inside the cup rather than behind it. If you are experiencing worse cramps after insertion this might be your problem. Try tilting it down when pushing it back all the way and see if that helps. Also with the ziggy, water based lube helps with the friction and squishiness

As a previous pad user, the disk is a definite learning curve. SoftCups are quite rigid, and the cup never fits just right within the first day or two or the last day of my period. Very uncomfortable at times when it won't hook behind my pubic bone, it seems that the little area it's supposed to "naturally fit in" is a little too small in my case. So only after having it in for a long while does it start to fit (the skin stretches i suppose) although with considerable discomfort, and the discomfort may come back when inserting another and I'm sore on the last day after I take the last one out. And the pain is off and on for the rest of that day. Makes me think that menstrual disks aren't quite one-size-fits all but I hate pads. They chafe me and I don't like the obvious period smell that's always around. And I really don't want to deal with menstrual cups right now since the whole debacle I had with the Lily Cup...... I didn't realize that it was for women with high cervices ONLY... I don't have the best experiences with menstrual _anything_ ...

I think the ziggy is my goldilocks for sure! I havent tried this during sex but so far i have used it a few cycles and had no leaks. I find that if I put the wonky side in first and then push it up and over my pelvic bone until it feels secure it stays in place perfectly. To empty it I just lean back on the toilet and pull it out like a drawer instead of straight down, I still get some blood on my hands but it's much easier this way. My gyno always comments on how my cervix is tilted and I think thats why I struggle so much with devices that require a suction plus I find that the cup stem pushes on my urethra however I don't have that issue with the ziggy.

I find menstrual discs super comfortable bc they sit in the same place as my nuvaring, but I could never get them to work for me because they always slid out of place. I felt like my cervix wasn’t poking out enough for the cup to hook behind so it was slipping forward. the back rim was always bloody so I assumed it was sort of sitting right under my cervix instead of behind it. When I went to feel my cervix it felt very flush with my vaginal wall. I would really love to use this but I’m not sure it’s compatible with my body.

A regular menstrual cup is much easier to empty and replace without having to wash it when using a public stall and doesn't typically cause a mess for your fingers...

I think it doesn’t stay in place because it is not a full cylindrical shape. It’s kind of like nuvaring where nuvaring stays in place because of the fact that it’s cylindrical. I don’t like how ziggy is packaged because they loose the cylindrical shape that is needed to stay in place. Hopefully they fix the problem and make a case that it round and that won’t ruin the shape of the cup. Also I think the cups rim should be a tad bit firmer so it stays in place

Couple years ago, I could never get softcups to stay, and the hard rim was very uncomfortable without being worn in! I'm wondering if my cervix is tilted now? I've been using a sensitive lena cup and it works well, on all days except heavy-- I have the small. Capacity is low but comfort is high.

I had a very similar experience with it working great at first and then after a few days I couldn’t get it to stop leaking. I’ve used cups 15+ years, so it’s not lack of experience/knowledge of my body. Did you ever get a good fit again?

I have a really light flow ever since I started birth control, would it be uncomfortable to put in and take out if it's not a heavy flow? (like how tampons hurt a little to take out when it's a light flow)
@PutACupInIt
@PutACupInIt 5 жыл бұрын
Not at all. The silicone is so much more comfortable and aren't drying, which is one of the reason tampons can be so uncomfortable -- especially with a light flow

i just really change mine in public if i can unless it’s a really private bathroom with a sink. i won’t change my menstrual cup in public either after it popped out of me and fell on the floor of the dive bar i was at. i find the ziggy lasts longer than my cup so i just put it in around the time i plan on leaving my house, usually i’m not out for more than 12 hours and when i’m at work i have access to a private washroom. i have a pretty heavy flow and i can wear the ziggy still for a good 10-12 hours. for the first heavy day i don’t wear internal products though since they give me weird vagina cramps. i wear period panties or reusable pads.

I was quite excited to use this.. but i have a low/medium cervix and was not able to insert it - i have been using menstrual cups since 12 years now and long cups do not work for me. but since this is more like a disc, i thought it will work but beacuse of the huge diameter, i wanst able to insert it. sigh!!

Thanks for this review!! You said something that resonated with me. You said something like, "If your cup doesn't have a good fit, it can slip down ..." My cups slip down nonstop. Ive been using them for months, usually wear a larger size because my flow is so heavy. Do you have any recommendations? Im at a loss.

It seems to me thread this was really mainly designed to be used for protection during intercourse and not as a regular menstrual cup. I wouldn't want to trust it to dry what a cup does. I would be interested to know if it "could" be used as a diaphragm. I learned the hard way that diaphragms aren't really manufactured anymore - not worldwide as they used to be. Even my doctor didn't know until she tried to source one for me.
@PutACupInIt
@PutACupInIt 6 жыл бұрын
No it's definitely for menstrual protection and not just for intercourse. I wore for days without having any sex at all. The Caya is a new diaphragm you may be able to get online or from your doctor.

Katie Seier idk about this specific product, but the flex fit (one of the reusable products that is very similar) can be worn with the nuvaring, just put the nuvaring in first.

I'm glad you mentioned having a tilted (retroverted) cervix! I have tried the Lily Cup, another menstrual product by Intima, and at first found that It did not work because of the asymmetrical design. However, once I tried the cup upside-down on a whim and it worked great! I wonder if it would be the same for the Ziggy Cup?
@PutACupInIt
@PutACupInIt 6 жыл бұрын
Ziggy needs to tuck up behind the pubic bone to stay in place, so I'm not sure that would work for this particular product.
@solveigpedroni2695
@solveigpedroni2695 2 жыл бұрын
I bought the Ziggy cup and was never able to use it! I have to push it quite hard when I insert it to put it behind my bone and I feel discomfort like my vagina was stretched... Also after a few minutes it goes back vertical so I just end up by having a big piece a bloody silicone in me, of course does not help at all and blood is still flowing haha. Maybe I missed something about how to use it but I just lost my 40€ on that one. It is really frustrating and I'm hesitating about buying another menstrual disk from a different brand. I must specify that I have been using a menstrual cup for years and I don't particularly struggle with it.

We don't know about that brand yet but if the cup is soft it's possible you need a firmer cup that will open easier.

I dont have a good reference but it seems firm enough. I was able to get it in properly and I think I really like it now. I was only able to use it at the end of my period when I had very light flow, so I cant say for sure, but I think I really like it. I will see next month during a heavier flow and see how that goes. Thank you so much for the advice! I'll keep it in mind depending on how next month goes :D

It is very much the same so if you're experienced with a NuvaRing a disc of any kind would be easy for you. There is the removal to consider since it will be full of blood but in and out is just the same.
