Zeffirelli cast these two perfectly. Your heart just goes to them watching them in the film; beautiful movie, beautiful Romeo and Juliet. To me they'll never make another to match it; it's absolute perfection. P.S. They have remained friends to this day; how wonderful.

I saw this movie with my mom and sister. 1968 We looked just like Olivia, (Juliet) the hair and eyes! Some boy friends looked like (Romeo) Leonard! It was fabulous! We have all the VHS tapes and pictures and everything! Us and the whole theater cried at the end.

My 9th grade English class went to see this movie on a Friday night in 1969. Made me a huge Shakespeare fan. I still have the original movie program as shown in your video. I can recite the dialogue word for word with the movie, however, I don't do this because it would be annoying!Thank you so much for posting this. I enjoyed it immensely. So cool to see Danny Kaye, Richard Chamberlain, Roger Moore, Patrick McNee, Joan Collins, etc, etc. Wish I could have been there! Adieu!

1968 I's here in Thailand but din't have a chance to see the film, was too much busy with preparing myself in English classes, taking tests as required by USA's embassy. Andleft Thailand for USA Over there I got to watch the film and I've loved it untill now. The best Romeo & Juliat of all time.

Think about today's society and film and what the political climate was like in 1963 at least where I'm from. People wanted counter culture and while the 2 leads embody rebellion to an end this was a period piece and it could have easily tanked at the box office and been overlooked-it wasn't. The two main actors were minors and not accustomed to the huge response this film gained. I can't imagine being 15-17 yrs old and handling , gracefully, the pressure and limelight that Olivia and Leonard did not to mention maintaining a multi decade long friendship in this industry without succumbing to ego, drug use to destruction, or mental illness. As more footage is released on the internet and you get a glimpse of the pressure these two young stars were under and they both handled it beautifully and with grace. It gives me a greater appreciation of the work that went into the film and everyone involved with it.
