Zimbabwe Here I come.
*I dedicate this episode to my Dad.
In the first part of this episode, I travel with Bruce from ‪@OverlandingwithBruce‬ to camp for 2 nights on the Old Hunters road, in Botswana. This has always been an adventure I've wanted to do, and serves as a great reccie, for the second part of this series, where I travel the Old Hunters Road Solo. From Hunters Road to Hwange, I overland travel to the Northern part of Hwange, where I visit the newly built lodge, Chakabika.
This turns out to be a great adventure, in the newly upgraded and kitted Ford Ranger 2.2 XL. It's come a long way, and whilst excited to travel this route, I am nervous. Will the additions work, and what lays ahead? Enjoy the episode legends.
Thank you to LACIE for their support on this trip.

Zimbabwe, here I come. In this 2 part series I travel 3 countries, cross 2 international border posts and travel 1415kms one way on what has to be the best 4x4 adventure route I've driven thus far. Wild place, and wild camping. It doesn't get better in the world of adventure travel and exploration. Enjoy the episode, and leave a comment, a thumbs up and all that good stuff. 👍

As a defender driver myself, i also enjoyed all the defender shots as well 😀 You are one of the very few South African overlanders who have ventured into Zimbabwe, which is a very misunderstood but beautiful country which should be every overlanders dream. Yuuup 100%, Zimbabwe is an amazing country to say the least. In my opinion it is far from being over rated. However, it is an expensive place to visit, which I don't think it should be. It ends up becoming something that is unattainable to the average SA overlander. Can't wait to get back there. See you at the next one legend 🤟

Having lived in South Africa myself both in Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng, I know that we have a long way to go in Zimbabwe, for us to catch up with South African standards. Thank you Faith for the awesome feedback. Yes, I schooled in Esigodini, so I know what Zim is all about, and to be honest, I love the country. Hard times plague all countries, some more than others. My aim is to inspire and educate people that these wild places deserve our attentions as travellers and explorers, no matter the news narrative. Its a start and a small way that I can contribute. I hope to be back in Zim and experience more of what I has to offer. There's plenty of places to explore, and to be able to do it means so much to the people that live there an the people who want to visit. Hopefully it happens soon. Thanks again, and I appreciate your support Faith. Cheers 👍

What great people, the best no issues at all, even at road blocks, Our conclusion --- its governments who messed up big time and we knew how Robert felt about white people, but the majority of locals do not have the same sentiment, what an experience, Zim people are the best. I also made a video of our trip, but was done for the group.... will go back to Mana pools, If you have not visited this amazing place, you have to put this on your bucket list ...

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip in my home country. Really sorry that you were not able to further explore Hwange down in the south. So beautiful. I think that you, Edward & Chris need to be putting together a Zim trip, including Hwange & Mana Pools! Wild camping in their "picnic sites" that are available for night stay overs! I would dearly love to see proper coverage on that back dirt road from Binga to Karoi. We are dying to do it on our September trip to both parks 👏🏻🤞🏻

Grate trip to watch you all having fun. Just can’t get my mind around having to have such huge fires at the evening camp nights. Wilderness people conservation and minimal is key.
@4x4ventures_southafrica
@4x4ventures_southafrica 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Danny. Yeh mate, the fires are big on account of keeping lion and leopard out of camp. Your description would be real if we were worried about people, but that wasn't the case. One build a fire put to prevent wild fires in aid of conservation.

Thanks Gavin. It could have been worse but always great to look back on it and remember just how much we enjoyed it. I too had a good giggle when editing it. Really was a lekker day, and a great loop. I found out some time afterwards that we drove the Northern Hunters Road of Hwange. A road renowned for poaching. It was a loop I look forward to doing again. Such is the adventure I suppose. Thanks for your support Gavin 👍

@@4x4ventures_southafrica that's me reliving some memories and nostalgic moments. Drove to Hwange onto Vic Falls in an Isuzu KB, that was epic. On three sixties, back in the late eighties serving in Mozambique my platoon did about a four hour march and landed up on our own tracks, by then we were very convinced we were on the enemies spoor, we tracked that for about 4k's, till we noted this one unique boot markings similar to one of our section commanders, that raised questions, then we came across a river we had crossed and filled our water bottles earlier, fortunately I was the 2IC and not leading 😀

me and my dad had a similar shock, we used this middle of no where, sort of back door entrance, but actually Hwange has a main entrance that is tarred and well marked. The park itself also used to be mostly paved road, but as you noted a lot of it is turning back to gravel due to a lack of gvt
@4x4ventures_southafrica
@4x4ventures_southafrica 2 жыл бұрын
100% I actually prefer the park this way. As mentioned, we went through the northern gate. I do know that the main gate has a better entrance to the park, but as you say, some attention is lacking from gvt.

Are the parks in Botswana better than Hwange now, place I ve not been, trying to decide the best ones to pick on our trip, Luangwa, Hwange, Kruger or head Botswana
@shephardandrewzond6764

@@nolavout9094 i dont know about the parks in Botswana but we had a nice time in Hwange. Visited several game viewing spots, sat and ate, watched animals around watering holes, in relative calm which was great actually. It was dry season and Hwange didnt disappoint, also because its massive, we regretted we only had one full day for this not more. The viewing platforms are free btw but are fit for purpose.
