It's only fair getting a PM pension even if they only spent a day in office. Otherwise you could end up in a situation where a PM refuses to leave office, because they haven't been there for the minimum required period. One of the reasons Richard Nixon resigned as president was because he was told if he was forced out he would lose his presidential pension.

Professor, she might not win her seat. Jacob Rees Mogg is one I'm watching and like her, he's just as unpopular as Truss is! Good chance of that going back to Labour but it's second place that interests me! In that seat and in Bristol South where I live. I haven't seen hide or hair of the Conservative candidate of my constituency but I have heard of Reform UK's candidate of the same - point of origin! Gibraltar!! What does HE know about my own area constituency? And it is a " He!!" By the way! I suspect that it's likely that Reform UK will fizzle out again! It's bluster is less meaningful than the grass roots issues! And it's the same thing with Truss as well!

When my constituency's previous MP stood down, the applicants were Liz Truss, Andrea Leadsom and Charles Walker. We got Charles Walker, missing two bullets! Sir Charles was a first rate constituency MP, and even though I couldn't vote for him (this Tory party bears no resemblance to the One Nation Conservatives that I knew as I grew up) I admired him.

Truss was parachuted in when Henry Bellingham retired to the House of Lords after 30-odd years as MP for SW Norfolk. Interestingly it was one of his ancestors who assassinated PM Spenser Perceval in 1812. As a constituent of Truss, I have seen neither hide nor hair of her, and hope it remains that way.

Couldn’t agree more. I knew a Tory Parish Councillor candidate years back and I was telling him weekly about Truss and how demented she appeared. So long back he hadn’t even heard of her initially. By the time he became aware, talk was rising of her being a future star of the party…. I’d watched her for years and knew instinctively she was a Space Cadet. He took the company line and doubled down how she’d be great, was a sharp mind, etc. He denies it all now out of sheer embarrassment at how wrong he was and how AWFUL she was/is ( his judgement was so bad at 5hat point he counted Gavin Williamson (a local) a friend and mentor. We know they’re dim, corrupt and entitled but it simply blows my mind how figures like Truss, Hancock, Keegan and Anderson has scale the heights they have….. It’s terrifying.

I would argue tribal voting still exists in Liverpool and parts of London and will continue to remain Labour for many years to come, but as you pointed out. A job for life as an MP isn't quite a sure fire thing as it used to be.

Truss is a classic example of the Dunning-Kruger effect - when a person's lack of knowledge and skill in a certain area causes them to overestimate their own competence. Her public speaking skills have not improved from her student days, and she completely lacks self-awareness.
