Peanut lighters are not the most user friendly to operate, but they offer some benefits over other types of lighters. Unlike butane lighters, oil based lighters are not as effected by cold weather. Unlike traditional oil based lighters though, these lighters are sealed. The obvious benefit to this type of lighter is that when you need it, it will not be without fluid. Peanut lighters are a fantastic option for packs or EDC. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of American manufactured lighters anymore. I have listed one option, Maratac by CountyComm. These lighters can be purchased in brass, stainless, and titanium. However, they do command a premium price.

I always bring a bic lighter instead of zippo because of the evaporation. This would be a nice replacement

Hi, Ben - the brass lighter really looks nice...I'd have it on my key chain as a back - up in case my regular lighter ran dry...the additional accessories are a nice touch...interesting video!

Nice to see you delving into hands-on reviews of emergency or semi-emergency useful items, esp. those readily pocket or message bag/purse carried! For many people, these things fall into the realm of "why didn't I think of that," all quite understandable in today's helter-skelter/topsy-turvy world! Like this little item, one NEVER knows, until one or one's companions are cold and wet, exactly when a small campfire might prove a comfort or even a lifesaver?! THANKS😁👍❗️

I have carry a stainless steel peanut lighter for several years with very similar construction. I am amazed at how effective the gasket and fluid tightness keeps the lighter fluid sealed in. Burning the ends of paracord is my most common task and it’s always in my edc.

I wish someone, looking at you CC, would sell the Peanut size case with the Splitpea insert. A backup lighter with plenty of room to store spare flints.

Iv had a different brand of these on my keys for about a year now don't use it often but works well and haven't had to fill it up since I started using it

Great review, I do have the in Ti and stainless steel peanut lighter. They both hold the fuel for a good while. Another US made lighter is exotac Titan lighter 👍

I bought the County Comm lighters. To be honest the smallest one will dry out in about a week and I stopped using it. The Anodized Peanut Lighter XL ($30 + shipping) bought from County Comm is a little big but, it is the one to get. I don't use it for smoking and just leave it in my bag, but the XL will still light after a couple of months. I like the XL.

My Maratac Peanut lighter lost all it's fuel and didn't light after 1 year. My True Utility Fire Stash Carabiner model lit tonight, after 3 years and 1 month!!!!

Cool and thanks for the review. Sound like great backup lighter. While we on the subject did the new case that Thyrm sent work out or was it a bust also?

I actually have that sitting on the desk right now. I’m planning on trying to do a dunk test for 30 minutes to see if it holds a good seal. If it passes that test and we will try it again.
