Three men and a crane maybe. If you can raise a timber frame cabin with 3 guys and no tractor, crane, winches, etc., please make a video and leave me the link. Would love to see it.

Two cuts for each side, four total. It can be done that way with drop cuts. Still prefer a bit of chisel clean up, though.

Well i wouldn't have thought to cut anything larger than a 4x4 with that saw.... I would recommend buying or renting a chainsaw cut less and sand down to where ya need it to be. Could always get a sawzall too. But honestly just a stihl chainsaw would do just fine
@appalachianwoodhomesteadКүн бұрын
I have three chainsaws 😜 Have to say, got a good laugh picturing someone trying to make a precise cut on an 8x8 with a recip saw. Two quick passes with the 10 1/4 is much cleaner.

Yes, and? 10 inch saw doesn’t cut 5 inches. Max depth on a 10 1/4” saw is usually 3 11/16”, which doesn’t quite get you through a true 8x8. Hence the hand saw finish.

Interestingly, they were cut on a high end hydraulic Woodmizer. I think the hydraulics keep the operator from feeling what's going on as well. They also didn't change the blades or level the bed.

Slighty higher voltages should be fine. Might run slightly faster than expected but parts are usually designed for more strain that they get under normal circumstances. Only downside is that the motor might die earlier than expected but it shouldn't be that big of a difference

It'll be a fun learning experience to repair the motor if/when it burns out. Tool is about 40 years old, anyway.

Also to note, it was designed for 100 volts, and and the house circuit plus the extension cord together probably drop the voltage 5 volts or so, so it's closer to working on 115 maybe a bit less

I have put hundreds of powerpoles in (thousands even). I drill a 900 wide hole fill to the top with drymix with the pole buried 2m deep and dump 20L of water on the top so the pole doesnt move. came back to the odd one years later and pulled the pole out and it was solid concrete. You would not have known it was drymix. When its in the ground it sucks all the water out of the ground and sets proper.

I just finished building the firepit from the video, it is still smoking a lot. What could have gone wrong?
@appalachianwoodhomestead11 күн бұрын
It will smoke at the beginning, but then clear up as the fire get going. It needs a "critical mass" of fire to get the secondary burn going. Smoke on the first burn can also be from residual stuff (whatever was in the barrel) burning off.
