@THEtechKnight - Awesome Video first off! Thanks for sharing the tips and tricks on this odd ball one. Question, I have a JL 1000/1 v1 that when connected to 12v power instantly goes into: Low Volt protection mode. Any tips on where to start on that one? Have you seen this? I know you said you have done a bunch of v1 JL 1000/1s. Thanks for your time and help!

"tripping the power supply" -- haha yeah, I remember trying to power an 12v amp from a little lab supply I had back in the early 2000s. It would do ... alright ... as long as I had the highpass filter on. But those high power car audio amps are like "gimme 12v at all the amps." Their input impedance is a short circuit. haha

What the heck is going on with those big stickers on the back? The second amplifier looks to have everything in the proper place. The first amplifier has the black sticker too far to the right and going over the top of the serial number sticker. Lol

It looks like MTX precisely cut those fan frames in order to contour the air flow through the amp. That might be one of the reasons these amps are still functioning fine after all these years.

Hello, I've this unit too, but I noticed something wrong today. It have some issue with reading cd-r I'm using tdk reflex cds (blue dye) and is slow. I've checked the rfo signal with an oscilloscope. No jitter and 1.2 V p-p. Of course, all caps are replaced by me. Did you have some tips about the laser adjusting? There are lots of trimmers, like fbias and fgain (I know what they do -- but the reference is a problem)

So glad you figured out the floppy issue. I also read the Matsushita EME279 drive will work, which belts are readily available for. I plan to try that into my T4700CT. I appreciate you have been MUCH more persistent on trying to figure it out as I have given up LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago as I just wanted to take a hammer to it, but I didn't. I Just shoved it in a box and put it in my hoard closet lol.

Before you wipe that drive ... make sure you grab any utilities specific to this machine. The PCMCIA slot and power management stuff in particular, but also drivers and such. I've got a T4xxx myself, and have done a bit of cursory searching, but haven't found any system / driver /utility disks for these things. Haven't gotten very far with it because -- surprise surprise -- the floppy drive wasn't working (belts... of course), and I haven't yet had the motivation to deal with that fresh hell.

Well, from the years of tinkering I have with these machines, the EME278s just cant be fixed, it requires a very specific belt that just isnt made anymore. neither the W1D nor the 279 belts fit. the 279 drive may fit. But ive just found that adapting other drives is just easier, and works.

I just got a T4600C and although the computer isn't working the hard drive had all the /IMG directory and they'll be uploaded to the internet archive shortly. I'll also be uploading the Toshiba Card Manager 3.0 software which is just a Toshiba specific version of phoenix card manager I think - I found a version from 1997 along with the password to decompress it. Regarding the belts, I've got a few EME278 drives working using a 3d printed TPU belt but they're much more finnicky and poorly designed than the EME279. The EME278 belt needs to be taller and printed without elephants foot otherwise it can slip off the spindle. The EME279 is much better in that aspect because the belt guides are designed better.

There is, and its ludicrously priced. Way outside what it is really worth. Most I ever paid for one of those machines was $295 and i thought THAT was high. And no, the data isnt sent anymore. it requires reverse engineering and programming to get it working again. I am contemplating on making the code open source, but its going to take some effort to do that.

The GH4 -- nice! I have a GH3 that I bought a short eternity ago. Probably about due for an upgrade. ;-) I really like the micro 4/3rds lenses -- good compromise on size/cost vs. image quality. The auto-focus is abysmal though (and I hear that didn't improve much on later revisions), so I just do it manually. PS -- a bit ironic that a piece of equipment whose sole purpose is to provide weather forecasts got taken out by bad weather. haha!

Love your excitement about the camera at the start :) The sound was a big improvement, and so was the picture. I like the steadier tripod footage, just easier on my eyes, but that's personal preference. Great to see it was the easy and "obvious" culprit, after the fuses. Nice!

I dont know if it luck or survivor bias, but I have an older near mint FD-10 that still works and I have a near mint FDL-310 not working with a white noise with a very faint picture and very weak audio, so highly likely the capacitors are gone. I heard rumors of Japanese made electronics made after 1986 used inferior capacitors.
