Hi. Excellent tutorial, I have learned a lot. Thank you. I have a question, if you can help me. I have a 14700K air cooled in an ITX case. The MB is Asrock Z790 PG ITX. I am trying to get as much performance out of it as possible. For this I have modified in BIOS (0x129) the following items: Power Short and Long set to 200W, All cores at 55, AVXoffset at 2, and LLC at 3. With those parameters I have good performance but the temp is close to 100ºC. With offset of -0.100 the temp improves (90-92ºC). And now I have seen this tutorial and I have used your parameters in Intel XTU for undervolt with an offset of -0.165 and it is now quite good and stable. The problem is that in BIOS the max offset is -0.100. In another tutorial of yours I have seen that it is possible to increase the offset in BIOS with a multi-point curve in FIRV configuration. I have copied your points in XTU, and although they work, the performance is very low, I only reach a speed of 4.2 Mhz. What am I doing wrong, how can I know which values to use in the curve, so that the performance doesn't drop?
@Manoloalube

In the end I was able to set some stable values in the BIOS, and I uninstalled XTU because it was creating interference with the BIOS and now everything is OK.

@TECHOSAUR

I think you will need to modify the original backplate to make it fit, as its many plastics will block it. The jsaux cover is made with the intention of going in and making contact with the cooling system of the ally. The original one has some plastics that will prevent this, but if you can trim them, it should work.

Hey! Thank you for the video! I just updated my bios to the newest version with the microcode 129, changed the settings in BIOS as you did (however, a few settings were not there on the asus bios), and ran XTU with the same settings, but my temps still reach 98c, thermal throttles on Cinebench24. The newest Asus bios came with only two profile mode, Perfomance and Asus Advanced OC profile. Specs: i7-14700K, Asus TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI D4, Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360. What can be done? I want to prioritize longevity over performance.

ASUS boards do have a lot of AI and automated features that will override all your manual tweaks. You need to make sure to have them all disabled and use the Intel power delivery profile in combination with your manual undervolting. I personally don't currently have an ASUS board on hand, so my guidance will be limited. I'm trying to secure more parts to demonstrate with. It's just a matter of time, I hope. But I can tell you to try changing SVID behavior. For my brother, who has an ASUS Z790 Hero, he uses the "best case scenario" option and said it's the only one that works for him not reaching a high temperature after manually undervolting. But you may need to switch between them to find the right one. He also has ASUS multicore enhancement set to "enabled - remove all limits." He has the performance preference set to the ASUS advanced OC profile. His temperatures never exceed 77°C He tells me the most important change is the SVID behavior, his cpu pts is 96 and its 13900k
@chandula.perera
@chandula.perera 5 күн бұрын
@@TECHOSAUR thank you and your brother! changing just the SVID to 'worst case scenario' did the trick for me. Temps now stable around 86c, except P-core 5 and 7 which goes to 92. Performance is ok too, Cinebench 23 score was 31K, Cinebench 24 score 1650. No throttling. 'Best case scenario' was unstable, gave bluscreens. 'Typical scenario' was ok but poor performance and 59c temps. If you or your brother have any tips on increasing the performance a bit, let me know! thank you so much for the help!
@TECHOSAUR
@TECHOSAUR 5 күн бұрын
@chandula.perera, we are glad to help. Did you get this new temperature before undervolting with XTU? I’m curious to know if you could get it down further. My brother sends his regards. He’s glad to help. It’s interesting how everyone is mad at Intel for having unstable processors, but my brother is completely relaxed with his 13900k and has never had an issue. He did some manual BIOS configurations, and they’ve worked for him after trial and error. His only time getting poor stability was due to RAM compatibility. Once he contacted Corsair, they helped him find the right kit that’s compatible with his Hero motherboard 6400mhz 4 DIMMs 6gb, and since then, it’s been working well. He plays mostly games like Alan Wake 2, Persona, Dying Light 2, Lies of P, and he’s never had a problem with his CPU. Temperatures in games are around 50°C. But he has custom loop cooling, and his P cores are 5.5 GHz. E cores are auto. Maybe that’s why it’s stable; lower clocks plus undervolting reduce the likelihood of CPU failure and crashing. If you are interested in undervolting, I hope to help.
@chandula.perera
@chandula.perera 4 күн бұрын
@@TECHOSAUR So I tweaked around a more and found a sweet spot I think. I enabled ASUS advanced OC profile, and kept SVID at 'worst case scenario'. Without XTU undervolting the temps reach 100c and it power throttles, with XTU though, it works super good! no throttling, temps reach max 86c and that's only p core 5 and 7, other cores are always below 80c. My undervolt is at 0.090, anything higher, applications start to crash. Now I get a score of 33K on cinebench 23. What scores did your brother get? also, what are his PL1 and PL2 limits? I'd like to tweak around a bit more and see if I can reduce the temps.

My 14700kf max temp only went down from 99 to 98 would you recommend to continue dropping the offset/undervolting amount? I’m getting really discouraged from even using intel and may just switch out my CPU and Mobo.

VBS stands for Virtualization-Based Security. Did you also disable the Intel Virtualization Technology and VTD-d options? They are found in the BIOS as well. The first one is in the CPU configuration, and the second is in the chipset tab. In the video I show their location, which should match your ASRock dadhboard. It seems you have them turned on, which is causing this error.

These videos are really bad for actual comparison because people watch these on IPS/TN/VA monitors, uncalibrated, not that it matters much, and think: hmm that looks so much better. Even though neither hte camera of the monitors can actually make a true to life let alone fair comparison. At best you can see the difference in blooming and potentially brightness.

Great review and you also made great comparisons with QN90C and C4 but I'm sorry to say this, your picture settings are totally off. Colors should never be set to native because some of colors are totally wrong and oversaturated on native. The same with hdmi black level, it shouldn't be at low, it crushes blacks and highlights. On top of all this you even enabled color booster which you also shouldn't. I had 42" C3, 43" QN90C and have 43" QN90D now next to 32" LG IPS monitor and 32" Innocn IPS Mini Led monitor which have really accurate colors and I did set QN90D so that it matches the two monitors. Trust me your settings are totally off with lots of black crush, missing highlights and very oversaturated colors.
@TECHOSAUR
@TECHOSAUR 8 күн бұрын
I noticed that setting the HDMI black level to "Auto" can make shadows too bright, ruining the black contrast. Revealing hidden details, you will see colors crushed in shadows. Switching to "Low" truly transformed the experience for me; everything looked deeper, and blacks were much more concentrated, giving an OLED-level feel. However, I agree that the color booster is not a necessary change. Using the normal color slider yields the same results. I set the colors to "Native" because, on "Auto," yellows appeared off-like egg yolks with strange highlights and blue too, they lacked the deep saturation. Overall, it made the colors look washed out. I don't know how our opinions are contradictory, but I suppose it comes down to personal preference. I spent hours trying to optimize the picture to what I find appealing in different scenarios, gaming, desktop, watching. Now I don't need to do anything special when changing between them. I feel that everything is quite visible and, to my liking But I understand you may prefer other picture refinement settings, i showed the ones I feel are best based on what I can see, I still use them, this TV is my daily driver, I absolutely love it

@@TECHOSAURAh, my mistake, I see you are using windows in HDR, that's a different story. Though you have all these settings turned on in SDR because this truly makes a horrible picture in SDR. Your settings are fine for HDR but unfortunately QN90C and QN90D don't have a very accurate picture in HDR. It looks wrong compared to my Innocen Mini LED monitor, no matter how I change the settings. Some colors are simply off all the time. For example my Sony 65X95J is way closer to the picture of Innocen Mini LED monitor in Windows in HDR but Samsung is known for not being the most accurate while Sony has one of the most accurate image of all TV brands. I don't use windows in HDR anyway, I use it in SDR only and both QN90C and QN90D are nice screens for Windows in SDR. I have to say LG is on par with Sony regarding accuracy, the 42" C3 that I had before QN90C and QN90D was really accurate in both SDR and HDR, it was just as accurate as an IPS monitor but I couldn't stand the tinting and ABL. It was really distracting and annoying for Windows usage, imo a lot more than the contrast and color shift from VA panels on QN90C and QN90D.
