I wonder if it would be interesting to make some jar replicates where you supplement some of them with calcium or iron or other limited nutrients.

What I also found interesting is that "Egel" in Dutch means Hedgehog, while "Egel" in German means Leech, while Hedgehog means "Igel". I looked it up, and it seems that Egel and Igel are related to snake or worm, and an "Igel" would be a snake- or worm-eater. Language is interesting.

I just wonder, what if you film them somehow without having to put them in darkness? Nightvision camera maybe? Although those are quite pricey... I just think that some of the organisms used to darkness may change their behaviour or even get sick when brought to light.

"8 äugiger blutegel" translatres to "8 eyed leech" not hedgehog (igel) egel = leech, igel = hedgehog.

Now what if you shut the lights off for 4 years?
@EthanJackson265 сағат бұрын
If you made the jar big enough and made it rotate so only one side gets light at a time you would have the earth.

I'd like to see something about the development of a biofilm on the solid surfaces in the body of water. As an aquarium keeper, I'm aware that an assortment of microorganisms live on the submerged surfaces and little by little create a matrix that feels to the touch like slime, but it is actually a complex ecosystem. It takes many months to develop to maturity, so I suspect that it actually develops through a succession of different species. It would be interesting to observe it's development.

@pimpdaddy14696 сағат бұрын
I don't agree with them actually not having a night and day. Because it was shining, a light doesn't mean they never had a day or night. What they saw in the daytime was dramatically different from what they see at night time either though they were having light shine inward but what they saw outside in the daytime and night time was completely different 🤓

So you changed what is known animals need and in spite of direct proof that some of them were suffering you kept going? You could argue this was scientific but this happening outside a lab makes me worry about videos 50 years from now titled "I threw a litter of dogs into an unlit basement for 4 years and what happened next will amaze you!!!"

Amazing…although it does make me not want to go swimming, or even paddling, in the sea. Definitely no dunking of heads! I wear contacts so I am always wary of that though. What happened with the sea star?
@dawnmason73008 сағат бұрын
Also, have you got samples of water and whatnot from other bodies of water/seas (ones that potentially don’t have sewage going into it?!) 😱😬

Evolution outside the jars has taken place in an environment without constant artificial lighting since the dawn of time, so who's to say anything *needs* a night cycle.

I'm pretty sure I saw Donald Trump float by at 3.5 years. For your French audience, 1/2 centimetre is 1/200th of one ten millionth of an incorrect estimate of the distance from the equator to the north pole. I hope that helps.

This makes me think if a day-night cycle is really necessary for life to develop on a planet. Well, heat distribution would be a HUGE problem, but I think planets would find a way of achieving it without rotation. We know so little about universe anyway.
