In my 50s now, I wish I could be as excited for 5 seconds per day as the little guy was the whole time. Life can sure suck the joy out of things if we let it. Fun vid! Sucks he got off. Would have loved to have seen that explosion of spontaneous joy.

Those are my favorite types of jugs. Put a piece of rebar in there so when they take the hook, they bob up and down making it easy to know you have a fish on. When you get a big one on, leave him on a while to tire itself out. It probably straightened the hook when your boy tried to yank it up. It happens...

I like that idea. Thank you sir!

Noddles aren’t that tough to hold under
@learning_the_outdoors10 күн бұрын
Our experience has been it takes a fish of about 5 pounds to pull it under for more than a second or two. A 10 pounder can keep it under for 10 seconds or so. I think its just all about how thick the noodles are and how long they are. I'm sure everyone makes them slightly different.

Here is a rig for beginners. Take a shallow running crankbait (i use a manns minus 1)and remove the treble hooks .On the rear i add a snap swivel and then add a snelled hook with a curly tail grub or powerbait minnow.This allows them to cast and retrieve plus when they land the fish they can use the lure as a handle instead of grabing line which can cut them
@learning_the_outdoors25 күн бұрын
That is such a cool idea! Thanks for sharing. I've never heard or seen that done.
@gregchilders764325 күн бұрын
@@learning_the_outdoors you are welcome. This allows them learn how to cast better and keeps them occupied by cast and retrieve .If around snags I will pre-tie some using a Aberdeen hook so that if it gets snagged I can just pull the hook free and rebend back

This video brought back lots of core memories. I’ve got a 14 year old and 5 year old boy who’ll be running jugs and Trotlines with me this weekend. Thanks for the video brother.

Below a reservoir, next to a spillway. All the recent rain has the spillway wide open, which floods the surrounding area. We are fishing a main ditch that has floodwater in it right now.
