My favorite Battle of Britain class is 21C166 Spitfire and it was considered a candidate for preservation in the 60s but 21C123 Blackmoor Vale was chosen for preservation because it was in better condition than 21C166 Spitfire

@railwaymaniacs7392Ай бұрын
Hi Shark. We would love to have a loco running mainline. There is a lot involved in making this leap. Mainly the extra funding required. If that was forthcoming then other barriers just become hurdles to leap over.

It would be nice to see them stretch their legs on the mainline. The extra finances required to make this happen would need to be secured .

We currently have 3 loco's under restoration, 3 under overhaul and 3 in steam. In a world where finances rule priority is normally dictated by whatever loco is closest to getting back into steam would be inside the works at Herston. That loco when steaming brings home the bacon to help its stable mates to progress further and also pay for past and future repairs. Thanks for your questions

What a great idea. Maybe sandblasting those threads and the rest would make the job much easier for you, if you can get access to one of course.
@railwaymaniacs73922 ай бұрын
Thanks. Good question. Sandblasting was an option that we considered early on as it would have solved that problem but the clean silver finish would give the souvenirs a very "new" look about them that would take away the "old" look that we were hoping to keep.

@@railwaymaniacs7392 it is such a soft exhaust compared to a New South Wales 38 class in full flight. They are beautiful engines though. Maybe, one as originally built could do a tour down-under like Flying Scotsman. Wouldn't that be something.

It's nice to see in her current livery and condition. Gives a younger generation a little idea of how our steam locomotives finished their service for B.R. Also the only member of the SLL fleet that could carry the Southern railway livery as on Blackmoor Vale on the bluebell railway.
@forrestrobin27123 ай бұрын
@@railwaymaniacs7392 I think it’s great to see her as she would have looked in service. She looks as a working loco should in my opinion. Just a question is she artificially « weathered » or is this her « genuine » external condition?

0:20 I was today years old when I finally found the answer to this question. I always wondered why the handles resembled the hands of a clock. Yet, they obviously weren't moving or showing the time. I eventually suspected they played a role in the operation of the locomotive. Glad to finally get a full answer.
