crazy that some video from 5 years ago is exactly the thing i was looking for. I would've expected some other more recent video to be at the top of my search result. not sure if there is a better way to do this either but this worked exceptionally well for me thank you so much.

Hey guys maybe somebody of you can help me? I tried to understand why when I paint with the foliage tool the performance on my pc really went down so when I tested the foliage tool with RenderDoc and the GPU visualizer I saw that when I painted a static mesh with the foliage tool it took a double amount of time to render the object than just placing the object without the foliage tool (same object same size same position of the camera) so anyone here knows if it’s just the downside of the foliage tool or it might be fixed?

First of all thanks for this, for the very first time i managed to get a ""working"" outline and cel shade so i'm pretty happy. What happens tho in my scene is that a bit far away landscape gets a weird grid on it and also the shadows on the basic mannequin doesn't seems like yours, not even a bit actually. I have a day/night cycle light setup in my scene could that be the issue of shadows? And about the grid any tip you can give me? Thanks in advance! EDIT The grind is on everything that isn't flat actually (landscape)

You can add AO by adding the SceneTexture: Ambient Occlusion node and multiply before or after the "If" node after the mask, this gives non-fuzzy AO

Would this toon shader work with materials that obscure light, like blur and subsurface, semi-translucent materials? I've managed to get a toon shader working, but it nullifies the unique attributes of other materials that I have in the scene.
@certainthingsstudios13133 жыл бұрын
You might need to make some additions to get it working, but this shader could handle some of the other material properties, like subsurface and semi-transparent materials. This technique is a bit wasteful, in the sense that it goes ahead and simulates everything the "hard" way (with physically based lighting), and then throws away a lot of that information. Since it still computes everything though, you could make use of properties like specularity or subsurface if you wanted to! Unfortunately there's one major disadvantage, which is that you don't get anything except directional shadows (no occlusion from other objects, and no ambient occlusion either). You can kind of fake both effects to some extent, but to do it right, you'd need to add a shading model to the engine (which is hard, but not impossible if you have some programming experience).

the fade thing in the grass gives you about 100 less FPS i dont recommand doing it , we do culling for more performance but when you do this you lose alot of performance

This helped me a lot! I was wondering how I could have a whole forest with choppable trees, since UE4 can't handle over 2k empty blueprints for some reason.

Hi there. I'm having an issue when adding back the color to the scene. I got the first error as seen at 23:19. However, when I proceed to mask the scene texture node, It still gives me an error. Is there a fix for this?
@Rokku1173 жыл бұрын
Hey there Noah! I also had the same problem! What fixed it for me was to mask the output of the clamp. I have no idea why that works, but it does...

If you add a speed tree color variation node into the mix itll make it look a bit less uniform, worked for me at least.

Thanks a lot for this viideo men. One question : I can't find any info on the web: I want to set up a mountain, and place a camera for instance like in the Lion King, where the camera can see a huge terrain. If this terrain has grass, even if I increase the culling distance (not too much for performances), the view will be bad from top there. How can I fix this ? Now after having resolved this one problem, I would gladly resolve this one : if for instance the landscape color is green, and in Lanscape grass type I put also some red flowers, they also cull at a certain distance. How am I supposed to make a beautiful landscape if I can't even see some beautiful details from the camera position
@rivoobagchi52454 жыл бұрын
First enable early z-pass on project settings, that should improve performance. Then you can increase the cull distance without worrying about performance so much. alternatively set up low lying fog to mask the surface details
