Question, I’m building a outdoor layout around my house and want to know how far apart I need a power connection. And how i connect all the wires from the track power points to my power supply. Is your layout track power?
@southernillinoisgscale8206Ай бұрын
I am all battery power. I tried track power for a very, very short time. It was way more work and a headache any time I wanted to run a train. I enjoy just being able to put a train on the tracks it goes. So, I'm not sure how far apart you're feeder wires should be, but I would bet they need to be pretty close together and the track will need railclamps. Also, the rail head will need cleaned with an sos pad.
@rc4lifebnsfАй бұрын
@@southernillinoisgscale8206 gotcha thank you. What remote and receiver setup did you use? I have 2 new dash 9’s and wondering how hard it would be to convert to battery
@southernillinoisgscale8206Ай бұрын
@@rc4lifebnsf I use Revolution. While I run batteries inside most of my locomotives, you don't have to. If you have two Dash 9's, they are ready to go. Just plug a batter into the cable by the plow. If you want to power both by one batter they make a MU plug. I think RLD sells them. They are cheap.
@rc4lifebnsfАй бұрын
@@southernillinoisgscale8206 sweet, but what receiver and remote should I use?
@southernillinoisgscale8206Ай бұрын
@@rc4lifebnsf The easiest setup is Revolution. The receiver just plugs in to the circuit board in the locomotive. It has the best range and good sound. Railpro has better sound, but the range in horrible. You have to stay close to your train to be able to control it. I'm not a fan of airwire and have no experience with their system.

I’m assuming you have body mounted KD couplers, probably 906 or 906R. It’s the extreme length that’s the issue and the amount of excessive swing as they pass through the switches. I had the same issue with my USAT auto racks. In order to increase the swing of the coupler within the draft box, cut away the sides on either side. Easy, simple and it works… my kinda fix!
@southernillinoisgscale82067 ай бұрын
I have kadee 906 on my freight cars. The TOFC cars have longer shank, like the usa trains tank cars.The last two cars in the video, each have one kadee on them. So they are connected by a kadee 906. Those are the cars the derailed first.

@southernillinoisgscale82067 ай бұрын
This big boy is battery power. This is not mine though, it's @TheeFishGuy big boy. I'm pretty sure he put railpro in it. This is my layout and it's all dead rail. Most of the layouts around here are. @@Michael-yl2iq I'm not a fan of blunami. I don't want to have to use a cell phone to control it. I think it's range is about as bad as Railpro too. That being said, I will have rail pro in my next two engines that should be here any time now. Are you close to RLD Hobbies?
@Michael-yl2iq7 ай бұрын
@@southernillinoisgscale8206 I can use my phone, but generally use my iPad. The grandkids use their own phones. As far as range I have not had any issue yet. You can set it to shut down or continue on current settings when signal is lost. If it is just out on a far loop, will just reestablish like nothing happened. I like the sounds choices on Blunami for my steam locomotives (which is all I run). I live in Tennessee, so not real close to RLD Hobbies. But I do buy online from RLD.
