Hello brothers gwynne, do you guys by chance have any recommendations for Historical Fiction set in ancient Egypt?

Kevin Costner is SO underrated. I have watched Dances with Wolves so many times. Graham Greene's best role too, besides Thunderheart, of course. haha

Can't wait for "Between Dragons and Their Wrath". It sounds so good! We pronounce wrath the same in my region of America (Washington State/PNW). It's funny because I would have assumed English people pronounce it how you thought we did.

nobody seems to read Robert Lewis Taylor anymore but Travels of Jaimie Mcpheeters (Pulitzer), A Journey To Matecumbe. Two Roads To Guadalupe are all amazing. then there is Glendon Swarthout, The Shootist, The Homesman and more. Dorothy M. Johnson, Man Called Horse, The Hanging Tree and any western by Elmore Leonard, Hombre and 3:10 To Yuma being the most well known.

Gentlemen, do not debase yourselves by reading ACOTAR. I can save you some time with a two-word plot summary: fairy smut. Do not make the mistake of thinking I'm a SJM hater. I am not. I met her, and she's delightful and funny. Also, I absolutely LOVE Throne of Glass, her first and highly superior series. I have read it through twice, all 7 or 8 books, including once as a buddy read with "the old guy" at work you've heard me mention many times and he enjoyed it too, the whole series, despite being a grandpa-aged white male who normally reads garbage like Baldacci and Tom Clancy. It is so, so good. ACOTAR, on the other hand, isn't nearly as good, and the gratuitously descriptive . . . relations (wink wink, nudge nudge) are just not my jam. At least in the Throne of Glass series they wait until book 5 to get busy and even then it's much more tastefully handled. Plus there's a cutthroat competition to be the king's assassin plus political intrigue and a bunch of different lands so not all characters are ethnically similar, and there are extremely badass witches who have even badder transportation, and there are tombs and castles and magical pendants and tons of snark, and redemption arcs, and a cursed blade, and mythological creatures, and mind control, and did I mention PIRATES, and revenge plots -- TOG has everything, and it's so entertaining.

Yes, «Edan»: Very excited for the standalone sequel, might actually meet Professor Chase this Summer during his European Vacation, if all goes to plan! 😉🤞 Also very excited for «Fury of the Gods» (obviously! 😅), Shauna Lawless’ «Gael Song» series, book #3 in Vaughn Roycroft’s «Sundered Nation» Trilogy and book #3 in Sean Poage’s «Arthurian Age» Trilogy! My list so far this year: 1) «A Brightness Long Ago» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Mercenary Wars of Renaissance Italy) 2) «Imperium» by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction, book #1 in Cicero Trilogy about the Eponymous Roman Statesman) 3) «Når landet mørknar» (Approximately «When The (This?) Land Darkens») by Tore Kvæven (Historical Fiction set during the 13th Century end of the Norse Settlement of Greenland, think of it as a Norse John Steinbeck novel, winner of the Brage Prize for Best Norwegian Novel in 2018) 4) «The Last Light of the Sun» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Viking Great Heathen Army and King Alfred the Good) 5) «The Dragonbone Chair» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #1) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy) 6) «Brother Red» by Adrian Selby (Grimdark Fantasy, standalone «midquel» to «Snakewood» & «The Winter Road») 7) «Howling Dark» (Sun Eater, #2) by Christopher Ruocchio (Space opera) 8) «Islands in the Net» by Bruce Sterling (80s (Post-)Cyberpunk) 9) «Stonehenge» by Bernard Cornwell (Historical Fiction about the Creation of Stonehenge during the Late Neolithic Period) 10) Splitt: «The Name of the Wind» by Patrick Rothfuss (Fantasy), «The Darkness That Comes Before» (The Prince of Nothing #1) by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy) & «The Judas Blossom» by Stephen Aryan (Historical Fantasy set during the Mongol Conquest of Persia). Cheers, lads! 😊

Shauna Lawless is the best author no one is reading!! Just magic!! The Land of the Living and the Dead is here in September! There will be 3 novellas published as a physical omnibus in early 2025! She also is working on a romantsy series too, not related to the Gael Song.
