Great video Chantz, it brought back so many memories. i stayed there (I think) about 44 years ago, and I am sure it was just dormitory style. But I do remember when I arrived , everyone was so tanned and in a "clic" and there is me , a pale skinny lad from NZ on my first stop on my OE. Oh to be young again hehe

Why did you leave South Africa?
@grahamcook92895 күн бұрын
So you live in the CBD, but work at the airport. That must be a bugger of a daily commute through all that traffic congestion.
@grahamcook92895 күн бұрын
It's crap that the Auckland metro still doesn't go to the airport, with an interchange in the airport. The airport is only 5kms to Puhinui station and most of it is open land. How much could that cost to build? It's things like this lack of basic infrastructure which betray how poor NZ as a country is. I mean come on. NZ only has two airports that accept international flights, Auckland and Christchurch, and the majority are via Auckland. It creates such a bad impression for visitors and makes Auckland and NZ look backward.

@grahamcook92896 күн бұрын
Those groceries are horrendously expensive. No change there then in NZ. The problem was always that NZ is a big farm, with agriculture being the major industry, meaning all the best quality food went for export. In the domestic market you either paid the export price for decent food, or bought the cheaper stuff that was well below export quality standard.
@grahamcook92896 күн бұрын
Cold in Auckland in winter? I don't think so.
@grahamcook92896 күн бұрын
I guess you left South Africa to avoid the rampant crime and highest murder rate in the World. What price can you put on escaping that?

What do you do for a living?
@grahamcook92896 күн бұрын
Auckland is just one giant sprawling bland boring suburb with the World's worst traffic problem. It is literally hell-on-wheels to live anywhere in Auckland. It's always been that way and no nothing is changing. It will just continue to get worse and worse. And windy Wellington or shaky Christchurch are no better. In many ways they are worse.
@brendanshield6 күн бұрын
I lived in Auckland for 39 years and loved it. Will head back eventually. You can't measure everything in dollars terms. No where's cheap anymore. Just degrees of expensive and totally outrageous.
@deborah6756 күн бұрын
Accommodation is more expensive in Auckland but I think other bills (food, electricity, phone) are pretty much the same and would be even higher in remote places. The big advantage to living in the CBD is not having to run a vehicle which you do need in many other parts of NZ.

Why are you ramping train service in this city? It's absolutely terrible, especially weekends the services often aren't' even running at all. Best and cheapest way to get to the airport on time and in comfort, have a mate drive you.
@BeingBedingfield16 күн бұрын
Why do you hate this city so much? The trains ran perfectly fine…this was filmed on a Saturday, it was on time and we absolutely love going on the train, but that’s just us and our opinion.
@Kiwi_Dave16 күн бұрын
@@BeingBedingfield Hate this city? Use to love this city but that was 20 years ago, been a downward spiral ever since, especially the last several years under Labour. Rail try commuting every day, service is terrible, weekends service is often late or cancelled completely. Billions recently wasted on more rail that will never be completed could have and should have gone to a much higher priority like a second bridge crossing. Rail here is a joke, always has been and they need to stop wasting money on it.
@user-im3hr1ed2l14 күн бұрын
@@Kiwi_DaveI use rail from onehunga. Yes there are some disruptions atm but the CRL will be great once finished. What else? More buses? More cars and motorways? ( been there, done that and still stuck in traffic)
