Hi Mike, thank you for your interesting Video about Debug with ESP-PROG. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to run my ESP32-CAM board and the ESP-prog at the same time. As soon as I make a serial connection to the boatrd, the debugger no longer starts. Can you tell me what kind of board you are using in the video? Or even better, where I can buy it. With the help of the debugger, I was already able to find an error in the ESP32 time-lapse code. Thank you for that. Sunny greetings from Germany, the country that is currently waiting for summer

hey mike glad you did a video on these details talking about it... and i am not here to unduly criticize however: the thing is i am not against the general premise of the design. stainless is cool material, and the delorean inspired design is a warm change. as are the flat panels and general look. personally i would not call it unattractive or anything like that. however the main thing i would be pointing towards taking a scrutiny of is basically the everyday practicality. and this is where it comes down to the egos of upper management and i have seen this in other corporations in recent years (cough, nvidia, jensen huang). whereby the guy at the top insists based upon purely his ego and it ends up being to the detriment of the final product design. so here are the individual elon's mistakes in my opinion. (and not the general tesla engineers yes men whom didnt want to be getting fired over it...) 1) wing mirrors: its understandable and because the legal regulations and we have been thru it all with supercars already. those requirements for being street legal and the drag etc. only problem here is: because elon isnt accepting the reality of the situation he thinks his clout still matters to make them like... too much feeble and naf from a practical stantpoint. because in elon's mind if he makes them badly enough, then people will feel more compelled to remove them. and/or force a pressure on the authorities to change the road legal requirements long term. and this is all a clear mistake because it makes his product more naf. and then people has to start doing extra work like 3rd party wing mirror kits that are actually good etc. so its fixable but still a mark against. 2) steering wheel. we have been through this before on other tesla vehicals... the wheel is not round enough simply it is actually more dangerous and leads to less control while driving. this is also perhaps possible to change (perhaps). but it is just entirely daft from a practical design standpoint. why? because elon musk has a massive ego thats for the only reason why 3) the back of the cab slope. now this one isn't fixable. however i wanted to bring it up because in my opinion... if you had a step on the rear window. rather than a continuus long slope. then you get better headroom in the back. and i am just guessing but it would not look aesthetically bad or anything. so perhaps there was during design phases a mockup proposal, that was then rejected by elon. in favor of having more trunk space volume yes? but even a small step on the rear cab would have been great imho. and maybe even look a bit nicer and more attractive. but thats just my own opinion. it is not perfect. but i think some reasonable things would be for tesla themselves to provide better mirrors and steering wheels. as an option or later revisions. but i also agree with all of your own suggestions too on it. so while i do still support the general concept.. its elon himself i am afraid i simply do not wish to support his ego. if he had somebody else whom was a credible engineer to push back against him (that he listened to and accepted) to have final say. somebody like a johnny ive equivalent. then i believe that those criiticisms are a bit like the apple product criticisms which is quite commonly said things. and nothing new or worth getting upset about. (if you are a tesla fan). it is still possible to appreciate from an engineering perspective the moving forwards on those new positive accomplishments... but i am not going to fall in love with the thing. after already going through all of those apple let-downs sagas by now its same general thing... tesla is the new apple basically they reproduced the apple business model. but for vehicles. so its just another type of a business, (not a passion) at this point

Could be several things: a bad microinverter, bad panel, bad solar wire or bad AC wire. You can test the module with a DC voltmeter, should be around 12-24 volts. Look for bad connectors, broken wires, etc.

@MikesTropicalTech3 ай бұрын
No, the batteries can't take a faster charging level so it's best to stick with the factory-supplied charging box. Also there would have to be a new electronics box that acted as the vehicle-side controller to communicate with the charging station and follow the data and power delivery protocols.

The coil in the analog display is not just a resistance, but an induction. I would try to connect a capacitor of approximately 10µF 35V between the signal and GND. You just need a slow signal anyway. The capacitor will turn the pulses into an approximate analog voltage. The Mosfet will thank you if it doesn't always see the voltage peaks and ringing. Discharging the small capacitor will definitely work.
@MikesTropicalTech4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the confirmation of that theory! I'll incorporate that when I build the final circuit board.

Small touches can make a world of difference :) At first I was thinking that the ESP is a bit of an overkill, why would you even need the WiFi for? But then I saw that you had to use it in the end. Good job!
@jensschroder82144 ай бұрын
It needs WIFI to read the voltage from the system without connecting high-voltage minus and 12V minus. An ESP8266 might have done the trick, but an ESP32 is cheap too. Maybe an ESP32-C2 or C3 is dirt cheap.
@MikesTropicalTech4 ай бұрын
I was lucky that the pack voltage was already being broadcasted by the EVTV V2 controller so I just grabbed it out of thin air! I have a lot of experience with the ESP32 on previous projects and have the development environment set up and a lot of code for it already so the whole project only took about 3 days, most of that was getting the MOSFET working properly.
@EduardCB4 ай бұрын
@@MikesTropicalTech Yeah, if you already have a lot of experience with the ESP32 and your dev env is already set up, it makes a lot of sense to go for that instead of something even lower powered, and spend a lot of time just to get up to speed :)
@Jake012014 ай бұрын
Hi Mike, Good work! Was an interesting watch. Just to clarify, in the event your HV positive cable should touch the chassis, there shouldn't be any arc or short or anything. You'll find most HV cables shielding is terminated on two sides to chassis GND which is for high voltage leak detection and emi reasons. In the event one cable is in contact, the bms and vcu should stop the contractors closing until the fault is rectified. If both positive and negative are in contact, it'll blow the fuse fairly quickly and you'll have bigger issues on your hands.
@MikesTropicalTech4 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. I don't have a smart BMS for that, but I do have the big DC circuit breaker which hopefully will do the job of tripping quickly after a short.
@Jake012014 ай бұрын
@MikesTropicalTech When you say, DC Circuit Breaker, as in household? I'd typically advise against circuit breakers, if it trips while driving, you can run into a world of pain! They're also not built for the automotive environment. Always take that into consideration! Wondering if you're interested in sharing your code? I'm looking to convert some of these old gauges to electronic. I'm not proficient in cpp, only higher level languages atm. So examples / guidance would be fantastic!

You reduce from 18mm to 8mm. It would be better to have a Y-piece there and distribute it from 18mm to 8mm + 8mm. Then you could cool the front and rear batteries separately in parallel. After the two batteries again from 8 + 8mm to 10mm put a Y-piece to the bottle.

The American plug has L1, N, PE and two data pins. This is connected to one phase. The European plug has L1, L2, L3, N, PE and the same two data pins. This is connected to AC three-phase current. But alternatively only one phase can be used. The data pins use the same signals in both regions. The European Type 2 plug is also called Menneke's plug because that was the company that was able to introduce their proposal throughout Europe. This plug has been legally required for EVs across Europe. Tesla in Europe also uses this plug to charge with DC.

Don't forget the freewheeling diode for the relay. When the relay is switched off, a voltage spike occurs. Use three diodes. One from the ignition lock in the direction of the arrow to the relay, one from the charging module in the direction of the arrow to the relay, the third diode from minus in the direction of the arrow to the relay. So all diode rings point to the plus of the relay. The third diode has the anode at minus of the relay. This will savely reduce the voltage spike.

Can't figure out why there is a four track system just through the middle of town - seems pointless (pun not intended). Around the new station, if the additional track were to be removed it would give much more parking, something which looks in pretty short supply.
