I have a garage door that I just had to redo cause the wire came a loose so I ended up reset the door and the springs. Now the door doesn't go up and down with ease and it comes back up just right before it close?
@garageDoorFUBARmanual2 күн бұрын
I assume you are referring to the cables on each side of the door. Since you reset your springs, I would make sure you tensioned the springs correctly. 7ft tall door means 7 turns on each spring. (torsion springs). If they were extension springs then that's harder to explain, but you wouldn't want to stretch them beyond 67". If you have a wayne dalton setup, then things get a little more hairy to explain over text. What do you think?

How did the cables get loose?
@garageDoorFUBARmanual2 күн бұрын
Oh, also, if you've got it back together and the door comes back up before it reaches the bottom.. the door could be too heavy for the garage door opener. You can check the balance of the door by lifting it by hand and see if it stays in place as you lift it one panel at a time. Here's a short vid of what a balance looks like. Basically a balance text ensures that the springs are lifting the door correctly and that you don't have too much or too little tension on the springs. If you have a broken spring, you won't be able to do this until it's replaced. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/atSEdahqv7TMlZs.html

Yep, mine took 27 quarters to get the weight in the last few inches down to 40 lbs. Also, despite all of my research and preparation, I ended up on the garage floor with a very sore arm and a broken side view mirror... 🤕

@@garageDoorFUBARmanual Thank you for the kind words. As far as the "weight", I read that you should roll the door down, without the opener connected of course, and put a bath scale underneath it. The weight of the door at that point should be 30 to 40 lbs, and adjust your spring load accordingly...

Those gloves will eventually get you hurt. Theyre too grippy. I work in a machine shop, and tried to use them. Bout got messed up on the mill when a moving wheel touched the rubber grip part on the glove. It stuck to the moving wheel, and luckily i had aready moved to press the off button before it grabbed me. Yes, i was 100% at fault, ill go back to wearing the 7$ cloth Milwaukee gloves.
@garageDoorFUBARmanual2 ай бұрын
In the field those are the best gloves imo for mechanical as you can feel stuff and they let you be articulate. I also worked in a machine shop where I could agree as I almost never wore gloves. They can get stuck in machinery. When I did carpentry I would usually wear different gloves for demo. I'd say every situation calls for something specific.
@NotABot882 ай бұрын
@garageDoorFUBARmanual I was thinking along the lines of your glove not letting go of that bar when it was supposed to. Like switching hands, and it accidentally catching the bar. Those MECHANICS tru-fit gloves, made with leather and fabric, like 24.99$ online, are awesome. Im a machinist, and those are the only gloves I trust wearing around equipment. There's no bulgy spots at all. On the fingers, on the palm, on the side of the glove, they just fit like they should, and the dexterity is next level. Just sharing and have a fantastic day!
@garageDoorFUBARmanual2 ай бұрын
Oohh.. If I wear "baggy" or ripped gloves then I've had it grab the bar. Good call. While I do prefer the super tight grease monkey ones, I do also have a pair of the mechanix gloves that are leather and synthetic. They are decent and I'll break them out if I have to jamb my hand into a sharp spot. I also have a pair of snap on gloves which looked really cool, but ultimately the sewn on padding on the fingers kind of rip at the stitching. If a glove fits well I'll usually wear them out until the fingertips are disintegrated. Also, the gloves I wear only have a thin layer of grip on them. The super grippy ones are not my cup of tea. I'm starting to ramble away from your comment so I'll get back to work here.. Anyway, I like your gloves too and I see where you're coming from.
@soccermastax2 ай бұрын
im not tryna tell u how to do anything but just wanted to drop a thought. you are probably safer off not wearing those gloves. if the spring does let loose and catches the glove it will rip your hand or elbow off instead of just cutting a chunk out of your hand. For the same reason you aren't supposed to wear gloves while using a lathe or drill press.
@garageDoorFUBARmanual2 ай бұрын
The comment above mentions a similar scenario. I appreciate you looking out for me, and in a machine shop environment I can agree that a glove can be a liability. I'm trying to think of an instance where I was injured while wearing a glove and only the machine shop comes to mind. Usually if you're going to get hurt doing torsion springs, I'd say that the winding bars would either drop out or try to crush your hand or collar bone. Maybe the ladder has leaves under the legs and it moves or wants to fall.. Maybe the cone cracks while winding the spring.. Also I'm sure it's obvious, but don't put your face under the bar as you wind. Now if you want to hear about accidents or things I've seen, I can surely go into that. I have been injured, mostly cut or bruised.. a burn here or there... I've worked on garage doors since maybe 2014, Although no glove related incidents come to mind. If you build them all with the same process then you figure out which steps go better with and without gloves. Mills, drill press, routers... Spinning things definitely grab gloves.. Grinding and winding ehhh not so much

Just checked this on my door - I found that while the yellow light on the sender was on, the unit was loose in the bracket. Thus it was off-kilter just enough that the receiver wouldn’t see it. I tightened the wing nut for the sender and recentered it in the window of the bracket, and voila! The green light on the other side came on. Easy fix.

Yeah they're a pain, but once you get a feel for it then it's easier. That plastic is actually made decently so it shouldn't break. I feel like Ford has been getting more complicated with repairs and general maintenance. I used to have a 94 ford ranger and El repairs were a lot easier. Strange engineering how the range had the oil filter directly above the starter... which would mean you could spill oil on the starter if you didn't cover it up beforehand. So that was crazy but at least it was easy to change out lol
