Bartlet never showed Hoynes any respect. It was one obvious flaw in his character, an inability to hide when he did not like someone. And it was never made clear why he disliked Hoynes so much.

I love his character and how he can speak so mater of factly with the President.

I mean CJ was completely right here - at the end they even killed one of the Qumars' leaders. So CJ was 100% correct in everything. After some time, a woman like Nancy would be writing an article for the Washington Post/CNN or Fox News saying "We had no choice but to attack the brutal, women-hating regime of Qumar which I always thought of revolting"....In the real world, the US was selling guns and training "brave warriors of Afghanistan" only to fight the same warriors in a war sometime later.

I like that in alot of scenes between Barlet and Leo, Leo seems to make distinctions between speaking to the President at moments, and then speaking to his old friend at other moments.

Typical Jed Barlett - the man has literally no clue how to lose an argument, especially with and where his own family is involved. Makes him human and it's what makes this show so damn watchable.

Bartlet was awful for doing this to Hoynes. Telling Hoynes he has MS, never disclosed it, and then offering him the VP nod to shut him up. Bartlet doesn't consider for a moment what will happen to Hoynes if/when the truth comes out. Even if Bartlet had stood down after one term, the knowledge that Hoynes knew the truth and helped conceal it could've torpedoed Hoynes' chances at winning the presidency. It could have even resulted in an impeachment of Hoynes himself if it was found to be criminal. Frankly, I think Bartlet deserved to be impeached or he should have been forced to resign for covering up his MS and his staff should have been far angrier with him for putting them through the ringer.
