Glad to see I’m not the only M6 shooter and forever Leica lover who cringes every time I see another hipster (I first shot M6 when I graduated high school in 84) loading this wrong! I see your video is 3 years old, but they’re STILL LOADING IT WRONG!

the fact you had to post a 22 minute video to explain something "simply" tells me you failed. this should not take 2 minutes to explain.

Actually, you do have to verify the sprocket teeth are properly engaged in the film take up holes. Failing to do that can lead to tears in the film itself. You'd be surprised what can go wrong by failing to check

Absolutely no way I can do that without a little poke of the leader so it's level once it's in, just a tiny poke, one poke, half a second, you have to poke it. For the love of god poke it!

I actually following this and there were two instances that my MP failed to load. Wasted lot times and memories - may be I did something wrong. You want to rewind and make sure the knob is rolling when wind the film as another comment says.

I would suggest a small variation to this: Because zones are back-weighted, as in more of the space behind the plane of focus is acceptable than in front, if you want to bracket around 15 feet, you should actually aim slightly in front of that to be a little bit more consistent. So I'd move the lens around while planning it out until the zone says that an equal number of feet are acceptable in front vs behind 15, for your standard aperture you use. Which might occur at, say, 13 feet. And then build that into muscle memory as the "15 foot" point. Only works if you prefer one specific aperture, though. Using your actual example in the video, at f/8 when the lens is set to 6 feet, looks like about 4.5 feet to 10 feet are in zone. The average of 4.5 and 10 is 7.25, though, not 6, because of the asymmetry. Whereas if you set it to 5.5 feet, the f/8 zone covers about 4 to 8 feet, and 6 is right in the average middle of that.

It’s good to just stop and ‘re-evaluate’ yourself - every now and then! I too am going back to my ‘roots’, but with the ‘convenience’ of digital technology. Indeed, my first photography project over 35 years ago was ‘One Camera, One Lens’. Implemented the project for nearly 3 years on landscape photography of the English Lake District: Olympus OM-3 with 21 mm f3.5 and lots of Fuji Velvia. I shall be repeating the essence of the original project but with Carl Zeiss Loxia 21mm f2.8 lens on Sony A7rII, landscape will be Snowdonia (North Wales). Who knows where it will lead me - but, the output will be a new talk to Camera Clubs and other organisations. Photography, in particular camera technology is advancing at a very high rate, but at the end of the day it’s your own goals and visualisation of photography that counts. By the way …. very good video!

"I started photography at the age of 55, and my main goal was to have a camera that I could always carry with me. I love taking photos and do it every day. I don't care if my pictures compare well to others. More and more, I see images that I like, and I can observe my continuous growth. By now, I view the world through a 35mm lens. I completely agree with you. Grab the camera and enjoy it. Regards, Dirk."

Hello . I’m new to shooting the Leica M6 and I just watched this video and I know I might get laughed at . But I’m having the issue with the 2 red triangles . lol . I’ve tried and tried and I can’t get them to both show up . I get 1 triangle with a red dot then it will skip to the other red triangle . I can’t get the 2 triangles .

A year or two after this video, they improved the IBIS for video a lot. It's as good as almost anything else, with the exception of maybe Olympus and Panasonic.

in the old film days with a mechanical camera/lens we called this pre-focus. Doing weddings the rule was f5.6 everything 1/3 in front of the subject and everything 2/3 behind the subject would be in acceptable focus and it worked great. Now with the digital days I do trust the distance scale and it works great. For the record I think if you came from the film world that you do have a leg up on digital. Great video !!!!!!!

You really nailed the emotional part of the journey. I was comfortably anti-Leica anything because I had never used such a tool & saw the fandom go wild - figured not for me. One day I gave a 50mm Leica R lens a shot on my A7 & everything about my lower case process changed that day. It just works for me, beautifully. I saw everything differently & images from that day are my favorite over a 10yr span. Kept the A7 & then figured when I'm ready for film, I know where I have to go. It's been 6 years since I purchased that lens & this week, I locked in my M4-P body. I cannot wait. Great KZfaq videos, thank you!
