Hello there, First of all, I liked and subscribed to your channel after watching this video, very thoughtful and thank you for the content. I have been in IT for the past 10 years (IT Helpdesk 2 years to EXO SME at Microsoft 3 years , to Cloud Engineering(AWS&Azure) 5 years and recently I was requested at the local Start up MSP which I worked at (founded 2020) of 15 Engineers which I work for, and now I am supposed to take care of the IT Management as they saw potential in me having people skills in me fitting the role and I took up to the challenge honestly. Reason why I was searching for a video like this is to expand my knowledge and actually have a proper guideline especially that I come from an IT background transitioning into management isn't an easy step, also because working at an MSP the dynamic of the work is not like it was at Microsoft or previous employers I worked at(Where you have a specific technology, processes or a pipeline you're focusing on and that's it) It's really hectic and the people that work in MSP need to be very open to expanding their knowledge as it goes and unfortunately not SME's rather jack of all trades managing to pick up quickly and I am kind of responsible to put everything into place by applying proper processes from A-Z since there aren't any due to the huge growth - which wasn't accounted for which is also a reason why I am doing my research and got into this channel. Can you maybe foresee what's your point of view and what would you begin with, I feel like there's so many things to do but not sure what to prioritize and where to start? Thank you!

The hospital I started working at in IT about a month ago had a falling out with Microsoft licensing. They have their own tools and use Google Mail that everyone hates. It's made it very tough to understand how to use their system to troubleshoot specific issues that nurses and doctors might have. Printing and scanning issues seem to be a common problem due to the workload of patient info that must go in and out. That's kind of easy to deal with. Dealing with doctors and nurses in a hurry is another thing. I have been placed on my first on-call after a month of minimal, sporadic training. We have 5 IT people with 3 being brand new. Everyone is so busy that there isn't time to train. So, I'm a bit nervous to take on what I'm about to take on. On top of that, it's my turn to do monthly backup which occurs between 2am and 7-9am the day before I go on call, so I get a double whammy. It seems like this stuff could be better managed but maybe it's normal. I don't know. I've heard nightmares that staff doesn't follow policy as we are supposed to be 2nd point of contact. Corporate Help Desk is supposed to be 1st. Circumventing that seems common. Working night and day dealing with people who don't respect the on-call rules makes me hesitant to want to stick with this employment, but I guess we'll see. If training was better and there was actually documented solutions for new IT members to follow until they learn it, it wouldn't be so bad. This hospital hasn't documented much of anything and it makes me wonder how many staff members have cycled through this mismanaged system? I found one section of notes from someone that worked in 2018. It's mostly 50% outdated information now. Whaaaaat? This is a care facility and it blows my mind how much IT is tossed aside like the janitors of a company.

I landed my first job as a Software Support Specialist working with MySQL, MSSQL, and Oracle. My title isn't a "DBA" but its surely a stepping stone to that career path. So I would say yes its possible.

having good ATS score of 85% also can't get job because companies demands more than job relevant skills with multiple skillset,expr,even in tech round questions were asked more than what they post job ad.

It depends on which direction you want to go. It is not a 100% fit with that tech exposure you have. I would think it may give you some helpful knowledge, but if your goal is system administration I would look at different options. I would definitely talk to your peers at work and what they would recommend. It can actually be very helpful for you to ask at work and express your interest. You would not be first person that lands the right job opportunity that way.

Is system administrator the same as network administrator
@ITCareerGuide
@ITCareerGuide Ай бұрын
In most cases it is not. The network administrator would focus on networking equipment and related work. But some companies call a system administrator a network administrator. HR often does not know what they are doing. Check on Linkedin and Indeed and read job descriptions to get a better understanding of the skills required.
