Very introspective video, weighing pros n cons. Your line of reasoning seems reasonable and well thought out. I have known nonprofits to be on the take, cooking the books, so to speak. Were only a couple of bucks (if that) out of $10 invested by personal donations and/or government sponsorship/support actually went to making a difference in their cause. That's a hell of a lot of overhead, somewhere. Like with 4Ocean being a non-profit could have advantages? Like with capitalism, it can be quite productive and profitable. But their is a counter to that. A possible major pitfall, GREED! Like with our own government. Throw in bureaucracy and inefficiency in that equation, and you have a liability to society, not a real benefit. It's sad when you don't want to trust anyone because of several money worshippers in the mix. They are selling a lot more than bracelets now. And good cause or not, their prices are outlandish. Personally, I'm going to buy a couple of things and be done with them. Hopefully, it will do some good, if even miniscule and giving people jobs. I always try n leave my environment a little cleaner than the way I found it. Not just the ocean n the beaches. A lot of our trash finds its way there eventually. It's everyone's responsibility. Like what ya said about disclosing their personal profits and proving their real intentions. Theirs an old saying by a wise forefather in our Revolutionary days as a nation, "It is error and not truth that shrinks from inquiry" William Penn. 😊

Whats wrong with a for profit company which does good? We are okay putting that money anywhere else! But when it comes to ecologically impacting companies we somehow feel the need them to not make profits. BS.

I think its good to hold them accountable; But you have to admit, they are doing the world a service with their business and running a business requires profits to cover beyond surface costs

Check out The Ocean Clean Up. It’s non profit and they are just picking up trash with their hands. They’re using innovation and technology to clean the ocean passively. I feel it’s it’s having MUCH more of an impact than these guys. I’m happy with anyone helping clean the ocean but out of the 20 dollars donated to 4Ocean maybe like 1 dollar of work goes into actually helping. It’s kinda crummy to think that people take advantage of natures problems like that

The company I work for is verified with an "A" rating from the BBB. They audit nothing. We just pay a membership fee. The BBB gives you an A if you either have no complaints, or respond to complaints. That's it.

Wow. So much misinformation here. Before making a video like this, I suggest you actually dive deeper into the company. If you did you would see that this is one of the most wholesome honest companies out there. I have personally been to the Bali headquarters and stayed there for months. I am not afflicted with them nor am I an employee. I am a trash artist who used some of their trash to make an art piece. I have seen what the team does 6 days a week. They clean so much trash, work in the blistering heat, and sort all the plastics to be recycled. This company pays their employees above average salary which provides the villages an opportunity to have a much better life. I’ve personally heard the heartfelt stories of the crew members and how this work is so noble for them. I also see the impact they have beyond cleanups. This video is spreading misinformation and in fact, they walk the walk. They do so much more than they advertise.

As someone who was a mermaid in another lifetime, I am grateful that a couple of snorkelers figured out that their hobby and my habitat would be more pleasant if the water were clean and undefiled. These are certainly good points, and things I've considered over the years (I've supported 4Ocean since 2017, and will continue as long as I'm capable of doing so), though I think he's being unnecessarily harsh here. In my mind, since 4Ocean is not a non-profit, it's none of my business what they choose to do with the revenue from the products sold (I've purchased bracelets, face mask frames, cups and thermoses, t-shirts, bamboo cutlery, sunscreen, and sponges over the years, and found many other companies to purchase from who also support a clean environment). I've noticed in the last year or so that they've upped their pledge to pull at least 2 pounds per item sold, and sometimes it's up to 5 pounds, though I'm OK if they leave it at 1 pound. The point is, my purchase goes toward cleaning plastic from the ocean, helps pay someone from an economically disadvantaged area to do something productive, uses up some of that recycled material (therefore keeping it from returning to the ocean for a while), and encourages me (and probably others) to learn more about the world we live in. All good things, a self-feeding cycle, and whatever they earn over and above fulfilling their commitment is their just reward. Since the company they've founded is what it is, it's unlikely that these guys will be spending their excess on horrible things--and if they do, that's their choice.

To be honest, there’s nothing wrong with them making profits, because at least they are taking action and making a difference. There are many people who may have good ideas and say that they care about environment but don’t really do anything.

As was said, many non-profits pledge to remove trash at a much lower cost per pound, including the one I work with. However, If 4Ocean operated as a non-profit, they would be competing with all of those other environmental non-profits for your donations. As it is now, they have created a new market and an innovative way to operate. So as others have said, the best choice is to pick up trash yourself, the 2nd best is to support a group operating at a lower cost, and third choice is to support 4Ocean, and a distant fourth is doing nothing. So if you already do the first 2 regularly, then supporting 4Ocean is great too. They have done a lot to raise awareness of the ocean plastic issue. We just need 66,000 more groups like them!

Honestly they deserve to keep their exact profits private. I would rather spend $20 for a bracelet and the knowledge that 1lb of trash was removed. God knows I haven't been at the beach removing any trash myself! It costs $20 for a burger and fries. That purchase has a negative impact on my health and the environment.

i think so long as they are making a difference then i don’t mind if their company is a cash cow. That money can help them expand and make even more of a difference and if they happen to get rich in the process i’m okay with that. people get rich everyday from far less honorable things like being an idiot on tik tok. I still support them so long as they honor their pledge

Also let's keep in mind that as of 2023 and even earlier the smartphones have become too big and heavy, even more than the brick phones from the mid to late 90s, and they are starting to become impractical. Just to have all those conveniences, you have to carry that brick in your pocket all the time, and ridiculously that brick is also fragile! Additionally, it's a portal for all those ads to be put into your face, like it's not already enough that you see them on TV; dumb phones won't show any ads... because they are not connected to the internet! I still remember last time I travelled by subway and I was watching rows and rows of people sitting on the chairs with their eyes in their phones... literally all of them! No one was just sitting there looking around, but stuck in their phones, completely oblivious of their surroundings. I don't judge them, I am just taking note of it. Since recently I've started getting used to not carrying a smartphone by replacing it with a bunch of late 90s and early 2000s cell phones, which I use rotationally because they are fun. This gives me more time of thought and allows me to seek other activities.

I dunno why this video was recommended. I watched the video and did some research about you, and... I have to say, "WAY TO GO!" Frankly, innocent Vietnamese people don't know a thing about their rights. Trembling whenever standing in front of the police and they're simply trapped in the MATRIX. If there's a way to get out of it, surely they would leave this country. Vietnam is loved because of its culture and "people," but not the people involved in the communist party. Fuck their rules and lies. I'm glad you made this video for people who have a "brain," not for those being pulled with a nose ring. Actually, they won't understand, though. By the way, as always, be yourself-a martyr for sarcastic jokes.😂 I hope you'll succeed in whatever you love to do. P.S. You're hilarious AF!
